HERE.
"Rightly or wrongly, there is a sentiment within the community that the developer would be foolish to ignore - that CCP is merely the caretaker of a hard-knock school that the players built for themselves. The subscriptions may belong to CCP, but the world belongs to its community." - John Bedford, EUROGAMER.

Very good article. The quote is also very insightful and I'm glad that not every game media is doing the dumbed-down "eve players are mad over microtransaction prizes".

All these stories need updates with the CCP financial angle now.

A very good read, especially the closing line.
Quote: One thing is clear: EVE is currently deadlocked in the greatest battle of its history, and if either side loses, no-one wins.

This.
I don't mind the monocle (I'll never get one). Nor the painted Scorpion (just another target).
I play everyday, and that is my investment is time I spend. That time is my world. I want nothing that shortcuts time, which includes standings which must be grinded to obtain. No gold amo. Gold ships, ok, as long as they are the same as our tin ships.

At least this 'late' entry to the laundry list of articles about the situation finally got it right.

An interesting thought occurred to me while reading that article.
How did the bean counters at CCP not realize that there is a reason why EVE is called Spreadsheets in space?
And that perhaps people who are willing to play such a game might be a bit more aware of where their money goes than some little tweenager paying for power-ups in BFH with their SMS.

v. nice article, goes beyond the idea that we are only worried about MT. The article also touches on the companies trouble with interfacing with the community and it's business operations. Interesting times. CSM gonna have a difficult task ahead.

Very well put, and right on target- whether CCP like it or not, giving a virtual economy to the players to control, gives those players ownership of it, and the second you think you can take it back, you take the hard fall. CCP = fail
LOL had to log on with this toon because the other 3 have already expired- but for the record, I am Lenni Lennipe / Takahashi Yasuo / Jorus Cboath, former co-CEO of Winged Victory corporation, a member of Intrepid Crossing. I have unsubbed all 4 of my accounts (as declared on the big thread) and will never probably never be back.
I'm really gonna miss those guys, but those are the breaks...

Not taking much pleasure in CCP getting bad press, and I would rather not have this game die.
But I gotta say, Hilmar does his best to try kill it off, so surely deserve what's coming for him atm. -

Well written article, one of the best I've read.
The person that wrote it I believe understands how perilous these times are, and I hope CCP will take note of it. I am hopeful that some accord will be reached in the emergency meeting.

I really like the end: 'One thing is clear: EVE is currently deadlocked in the greatest battle of its history, and if either side loses, no-one wins.'
One thing that comes across loud and clear from a few of these articles is that Eve has no real competition. I think CCP should be counting their blessings on that one at the moment, because when they do, they won't be able to afford anything like this going on again.

The meta-game is a substantial amount of the fun for me.
I decided to give Eve a try originally to some extent due to the gaming press coverage of various 'major events' with the Eve universe. I found the idea of "the players make the story" quite attractive.
Eve has attracted this sort of people, and over the years *trained* this sort of people. Now, CCP is the target rather than an opposing in-game Alliance. Ahh, poor little company. One can almost feel sorry for them.
