I remember from a few months back CCP mentioned that the new nebulae they showcased would be released with Incarna. I haven't seen them at all. What's the situation with them? -

Have you played the game at all? The turrets have been remodeled and the actual firing effects are different. --- The ≡v≡ Online Forums: where all the kiddies go to whine.

As I understand it, the new models were only introduced. The effects are not new (tho they may look new due to positioning etc). They even said in the dev blog IIRC that they didn't have time to finish off the new effects.

I'm pretty sure they're new. Lasers look far more colorful and pulse lasers look better than they uses to, plus they can almost cause an epileptic seizure :D
Autocannons rapid fire now. Tractor beams also look better.
I dunno, I could be wrong but I don't remember any of these things looking like they do now in the past. --- The ≡v≡ Online Forums: where all the kiddies go to whine.

I'm wondering when the new nebulae will hit as well. Aren't they supposed to animate, or something?

EVE Fanfest 2011: New Nebulae
They will be actual 3d object space regions the solar systems float in, not the "wallpapers" we have now. That means we will travel through them when we jump from one system to another.
CCP hired movie special effect guys to render these things.

FFS - new nebulae? Really? And they hired an animation specialist to get the effects right? Can't they just fix the stuff that needs to be fixed and leave the nebula alone? If its not broke...

Just because they're making new nebulae doesn't mean they aren't working on other issues. Besides, added immersion isn't a bad thing. What they've shown looks really good.

Crysis was released in 2007, and it's already 2011 outside. Get over it and buy a decent PC.
Nebulae should be added around late fall - early winter. That was the original plan, at least.

You know what would be awesome? Random new solar systems and nebulae that pop up every now and then. Doesn't have to happen often. Once every few weeks. A month. Two months. Would open up new avenues, could even slow down if it got ahead of the population. It would always leave new open space to be _discovered_ brand spanking new. That would be a true awesome sandbox.

Any investment in EVE that does not bring them moar $ directly is a sign CCP still cares about the game right?
Ok, its one of those things along the lines of 'people like new features more than bugfixes' which CCP likes to spout, much to the dislike of the average player that has... lets say... hybrids trained, but still

According to rumour the new nebulae will be part of a fully three-dimensional global skybox, and your perspective will shift depending on which star system you're in. You'll even be able to see very far-away nebulae in other regions off in the distance. ----- Andreus Ixiris CEO, Mixed Metaphor

Though I¦m now starting to wonder about the rendering performance this will consume, especially for multibox users. Maybe here¦s the real reason why this hasn¦t been introduced yet? Not even on Sisi.
I¦m really starting to miss the times when we had basic and premium clients.

It _shouldn't_ matter what sort of background you load. Those are static pics anyway. It shouldn't matter if you replace one pic by another.
It is just that they replace the background pic for each system now so that it makes an overall sense. Currently it is just random, in the future those static background pics will be prerendered according to a larger structure.
It still shouldn't be a big performance consumer. Well, I guess we will see. |
