No.
Giving them out for free in the char creator takes away even more from potential purposes for Incarna proper.
Want to get an Intaki hairdo when you're Minmatar ? Then travel to places where there's an Intaki hairstylist, and wander about. See what else is going on when you're there.
Same for anything and everything else.
Having it all available for no effort whatsoever takes away possibilities for non-NeX related features in Incarna proper. |

Originally by: CCP Konflikt An even shorter answer, it breaks the look and feel of the game.
My god, Konflikt, are you serious? This is literally the most short-sighted answer I have ever heard a CCP official give. I am very disappointed.
Originally by: CCP Konflikt Why would a Caldari pilot wear an Amarrian robe? It makes no sense.
Firstly, ask the Caldari members of CVA. There are a lot of roleplayers who support an empire different to the one they were born under - there are a lot of Ammatar and Calamarr roleplayers who want to wear Amarrian religious garb but can't because of your inexplicable restrictions.
Secondly, there are no restrictions on what race of ships and weapons a pilot can use, regardless of race - that doesn't seem to break the "look and feel" of the game, so why should clothes or haircuts? Konflikt, let me be very clear - it breaks the feel of the game if you can't have any clothes on any character. You're seriously telling me that I, as a capsuleer with several billion ISK in his wallet (which translates into several trillion in planetary currency, according to lore), literally can't walk up to an Amarrian tailor and say "hey, that robe you're wearing. Make me one" and get a robe? No, Konflikt. That won't fly. EVE is all about being able to buy whatever you want, regardless of race. Why can't I buy myself a black leather jacket?
Thirdly, the Amarrian robes are, so far, literally the only piece of culture-specific clothing you've given us. The rest is just generic (but still perfectly nice-looking) t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, tank tops, vests, jackets, trousers etc. that everyone should have access to in every colour variety. You've literally released no cultural clothing for any of the other races - no Intaki robes, no weird Civire shoulder thingamajigs, no transluscent Gallente clothing or ridiculous glass headdresses, no Jin-Mei or Achur kimono, no Vherokior rebreathers, etc. - there are literally no other pieces of culture-specific clothing at all. If you wanted to restrict by culture, the Amarrian robes are the only thing you'd have a valid argument for doing it for.
And please, don't even try to float me the idea that hairstyles should be race-locked. That one that you gave the Amarr (the long wavy one in my example picture) is literally only available to them, but it doesn't even require styling - are you literally telling me my character can't just grow his hair out? The long hairstyles would have made a lot more sense on the Intaki who, historically, had a ton of long hairstyles.
The character creator, as it stands, suffers from a lack of free (that is, non-NeX) content in both the clothing and hairstyle department. This problem is only ever going to be fully remedied by pushing through a lot more free clothing and hairstyles, but in the meantime, you can apply a fairly quick fix to the problem by removing these unneccessary and unjustifiable racelocks.
In short, your answer feels patronising and insulting.
Bump for great justice and support.

Make them (and some new ones too) available from Establishments (clothes boutique and barbershop for capsuleers, extra pricey but guaranteed to not get a shiv in your neck from the non-demigods).. or dependant on which type of station you're docking in at.. regional fashion could develop. LP Store clothing as well, with minimum standing requirements (to purchase, not to wear).
"Sorry, can't come to op, got a barber appointment in gallente space"
I imagine you get the idea so I won't expand on it further.
-- But if that sort of thing is too much to ask for.. I still expect the simple approach of making all of the "racial" stuff available as per original post and others besides. |

Edited by: Seriphyn Inhonores on 09/07/2011 18:43:50 Stop thinking of the exceptions, and think of the general implications. Think of people who do not RP, too.
Why would a Brutor character who is a Tribal Traditionalist and a member of the Minmatar militia with -9.00 Amarr standings be wearing an Amarrian robe and hood, as well as Amarrian tattoos? This person is not an RPer and will not explain to you why if you asked them, only that "It looks cool".
This is immersion-breaking.
P.s. the default clothing is NOT generic, and each has a faction-link. The Gallente eagle t-shirt is Gallentean, duh. |

Edited by: Andreus Ixiris on 09/07/2011 19:27:50 So Seriphyn sees a thread, sees it has a lot of support for the rest of the community, and decides he has to start feeding CCP excuses on why they should allow things to stay the same.
Good work, Seri. Nice to see you're taking the community's side on this one.
I can think of a ton of reasons as to why the situation you describe could come about. Want to talk about immersion, Seri? Talk about how capsuleers, people with the buying power of national entities, can't buy the clothes that they want. Do you honestly think that capsuleers don't do things "just because it looks cool"? Why else would you fly an Apotheosis or an Opux Luxury Yaucht, after all? If your immersion is so fragile that it's shattered by a guy wearing a piece of clothing because it looks cool, you need to have a serious look at your ability to immerse yourself in fiction. |

An even shorter answer, it breaks the look and feel of the game. Why would a Caldari pilot wear an Amarrian robe? It makes no sense.
Because he/she couldn't care less about his/her bloodline? To make a statement one way or another? Because that's what the character likes?
Capsuleers are no planet bound baseline worms, afterall. We are gods among men. Don't tell me that I can have hangars full of magnificent war machines and I can feel their sensory inputs in my own senses and surf the solar winds of a thousand stars - but I can't wear an amarrian robe?

That'd be great, but something makes me fearful that any and all customization options outside the baseline are going to cost aurum and be sold on the NeX. |

I for one would prefer to have at least some racial restrictions on clothes/tatoos/hair styles. It gives each race some identity.
Also, why cant role players actually chose a race and roleplay it? It gets so tiresome when every damn RPer is like "I'm a Caldari who was abandoned at birth and raised by a Gallente father and Minmatar mother, however I turned my back on my roots & upbringing to become an Amarr citizen because cloaks are cool!"
--- Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum I can tell you that this is one of the moments when we look at what those at CCP will do and less of what they say. |

Confirming cloaks are cool and should be worn by everyone.
Some items/tatoes (tribal Minmatars) shouldn't be for everyone, but hairstyles and jackets etc shouldn't be restricted, neither should blouses.

I don't RP. All my characters are Caldari. Yet I support this idea. Go to your closest mall, and go see how many styles of clothes (from other countries) are available to you.
Now you are not allowed to buy any of them only those from your country. << that is what CCP is saying.
All of the posts, also, the Amarr robe can have a "available to all" version and a racial one. Problem solved. For example the Amarr only robe has gold trimming while the other versions have all colours except gold.
Meh. Not a game breaker for me. I can fly all 4 racial ships, and use all the weapon systems. So the important parts are covered.

A valid response to that was that the art team broke the look and feel of the game when they made such awful, bland, mismatched art. Seriously... the character art sucks... at least give us a chance to pick the least-crappy stuff so we can have characters that don't look like they came out of a vanilla factory.
