Looking at the battle ship sized guns...they look tiny.
These are ships of war, there main job is bring guns to the fight. My apoc or other battle ship with these tiny little turrets does nto convey power. They convey, wtf is that ship so big for such small guns.
There is lots of room between the turrets. be really nice to see bigger guns. They are so small I can not even zoom in on them. ______ Hello WoW players. Look at your toon, now back to me. This. If a rifter is a Boeing 747, and the weapons fire 200mm-280mm rounds, why are the weapons easily a ~third the size of what would be a 747's wing in relation? _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Well, to be fair, here's a 30mm avenger from a Warthog.

Exactly the warthog is a perfect example The plane is built around a gun, the entire point of the plane is to get the gun on target. Also look how big it is. They need to be small so they don't block too much air. Aerodynamic and all. Especially the Dominix. -

Yea they spent so much time on trret animations and redesign and you have to put the ships half screen of the UI to see them firing and their animations.

Maybe CCP should do some artwork of each ship showing the scale of the new turret system on the ships in comparison to real life objects(like planes/cars etc). Also show the scale of the munitions in comparison to something in real life.
I'd like the option to switch the camera view to one of the turrets of my choosing. Sort of like a FPS shot, but with the camera just above and slighty behind the barrel looking at the target. I've noticed that the munition rounds actually look like tracer rounds as they're traveling towards a target coming individually from their fired barrel. Before it was just a generic firing sequence, now they actually look like they are firing rounds at the target. Gun cam view would be nice.
Or at least an option to zoom in further on the turrets so I can see them.

Personally, I rather like the Turret:Ship size ratio found on Dreads.
I find the size less significant than the mounting on some ships, though. Turrets on the Apoc, for example, don't really look like they belong there - they're just pasted onto the side.

Edited by: Mobius Reynolds on 28/06/2011 17:17:12 I agree that on most ships, the guns appear to be a bit small. If you need an idea of the size of guns on real world ships...look no further than the Iowa class battleship (or it's equivalents). Wikipedia Article on Iowa Class
Those guns are 13 inch (406 mm-ish)/50 caliber guns. They're pretty big, 66 feet (20 m-ish) long...not 100% sure of the equivalent scale in eve though (since I'm Amar, lasers don't have a bore measurement on my lasers).
I don't know...maybe the ships are too big...

reminds me of back in the day when cars were tested to be streamlined and not aerodynamic... water tunnels instead of wind tunnels...
Cars started taking off over 100mph

Tbh this isn't really that far off.
I've fitted a 425mm AC on a rifter and it looked GREAT.
Fitting a 720mm Artillery on it makes it look AWESOME !
Too bad it can't use them. ^^

Aye, they do look amazing. Maybe it's just my apoc but the little turrets look sad...Like I've fit the wrong side mods on the ship. ______ Hello WoW players. Look at your toon, now back to me. well the guns are at least trying to stay within their specified size. if a 1200mm howizter was actually a 50m howitzer, it would be a bit silly.

I have to concur with the OP that guns on ships BC and larger are too small...
They could always alter the fluff description to make them larger if that's the problem. --------

In relation to the increase in ship size, the number of guns increases faster than the size of guns.
This makes a lot of sense because:
A) The level of technology makes the damage dealing capabilities of all guns extremely high. You don't NEED guns to be huge to do a lot of damage. B) The larger something is, the less bang for your buck you get out of increasing size. Keep in mind, dreads can only use three weapon systems, and titans can only use six. The increase in power consumption probably ramps up a lot faster than the increase in damage capabilities.
The only problem in my opinion, is not being able to zoom in as close to battleships as with smaller ships. :(

Technically, these are space ships that don't enter into any atmospheres where aerodynamics would have any role in the flight characteristics of the ships. Since space is a vacuum, there is no air, so the size of the guns wouldn't matter when it pertains to aerodynamics.
