Technically, these are space ships that don't enter into any atmospheres where aerodynamics would have any role in the flight characteristics of the ships. Since space is a vacuum, there is no air, so the size of the guns wouldn't matter when it pertains to aerodynamics.
... But then why do we slow down when we turn the engines off?
Because this is a game and not a NASA space sim program?

These are ships of war, there main job is bring guns to the fight. My apoc or other battle ship with these tiny little turrets does nto convey power. They convey, wtf is that ship so big for such small guns.
There is lots of room between the turrets. be really nice to see bigger guns. They are so small I can not even zoom in on them.
I completely agree. While I like the turret animations, they are quite pointless because most of the time they appear too small to be noticed. Indeed, on BC and especially on BS hulls the guns look way too small (they are about 1/2 the size of the previous generation).
Let's consider this: a 1400mm cannon is supposed to shoot projectiles the size of an average Volkswagen ... that is a MASSIVE gun in my book, even on a km long spaceship.

Originally by: Hra Neuvosto I'd say turrets on frigates are too big and the rest are just fine.
This. If a rifter is a Boeing 747, and the weapons fire 200mm-280mm rounds, why are the weapons easily a ~third the size of what would be a 747's wing in relation?
Well, to be fair, here's a 30mm avenger from a Warthog.
Exactly the warthog is a perfect example The plane is built around a gun, the entire point of the plane is to get the gun on target. Also look how big it is. Imagine what the larger guns should look like!
I think that 30mm link gives a good perspective how how big a 30mm gun is.
Now imagine 4 of these mounted on a 747. Thats a 280mm artillery. Seems a little silly considering that it should rip a Rifter to pieces when it fires.
Remember this isnt some silly anime/WoW game where everything has to be stupid God big.

Edited by: San Severina on 05/07/2011 00:21:42 really scale is not this games biggest strong point. ever seen a carrier or super cap in space? it's lol, also agree, the new gun models are a bit of a waste because even on a frig they are so small you hardly see them.

I wonder if with the new station interiors they could accomidate a full size carrier...I believe thats why they where originally so small. To look good for ship spinning.
This also needs updating. ______ Hello WoW players. Look at your toon, now back to me. Sadly it isn't me, but if it wasn't simplistic pre scripted linear mono dimensional game you could look like me. I'm in a Paladin |
