Edited by: The Babyface on 29/06/2011 00:45:10 So one of my accounts today has been banned by CCP, supposedly due to a "security leak" and said it may have been hacked and used to spam forums or sell isk. Has anyone else had this? I'll feel more comfortable knowing that there are others in the community having account issues due to security. I know this will likely spark all kinds of conspiracy theories, but frankly I'm a little unsettled myself given light of current events....

Yes, CCP is mass banning accounts of people pointing out their failures.
Accounts associated with the Eve-online official forums as well as any account names used on 3rd party sites are also being banned.
CCP has initiated a process of completely hunting and banning all detractors on any part of the internet.

While that may be the logical conclusion, most of my responses have usually been pretty neutral, or more antagonistic towards the naysayers and account closers. I've been outspoken about the fact that I think trolling CCP and calling them fail is counterproductive, meaning the ruder we are to CCP the more they ignore us (as evidenced by Hilmar's email - lets see what the do, ignore what they say). I've certainly questioned CCP decision making and direction of Eve, but only in the context of saying we need honesty from them, but I haven't gone as far as to put them down and ridicule them.
I hardly see how my posts would have called for the ban hammer, that's why I'll simply re-post with this account, tell the community about my ban, and see if lightning strikes twice. If this account disappears as well, I'll know what's going on.
For the record, I've done a complete system scan with multiple anti-virus/spyware/malware, no evidence of any bugs, key-loggers, or trojans. Never had anything like this happen before.
Thanks, looking forward to seeing the extent of these bans - does anyone have any idea how many accounts are affected, or know where there is a discussion of these bans elsewhere on the net??
Is this related to the lulzsec hack??

Edited by: Katrina Cortez on 29/06/2011 00:56:06 Sounds like someone flagged you as an ISK spammer/seller... I would just petition it and ask for clarification. PS - there used to be a way to see who logged into your account from the account management screen (ip addresses)

One of my friends got banned and CCP won't even tell him why. He emailed them, and they didn't want to tell him what he had done wrong. He has since cancelled his account.

Hopefully a moderator or other CCP person will be able to clarify - if they've been having systemic security issues, there's bound to be others with this situation. They could tell you what to expect.
The other big plus to some CCP comment here would be to stifle some of the rumor of random bans with no reason or explanation. We don't need any further damage due to misinformation or false speculation.

LOL. Nah, not in one the big alliances. I've dabbled, but never enjoyed being told what to do every time I've logged on, or being locked out of all my ships and goods when my alliance lost sov where I'd stashed my stuffs.
There's plenty of isk to be made in FW, I assure you, just ask the big alliances cause they come here to farm our missions a lot. I'd just prefer to have an extra carrier or three to hot drop for fun, instead of a monocle that will only show up in icons and provide me with nothing to support my fleets. We all have our ways of spending our iskies/aurum/plex, whatever. its all the same now.

From what I've seen in the past bannings of this nature are generally do to someone hacking into your account. CCP suspends the account until you get things straightened out with them. This is actually a good thing for you since it will limit the amount of damage that can be caused to you. If you haven't already done so go ahead and submit a petition.

me2, & I used some language that really should have got me banned. In fact for awhile there I really went overboard by my usual standards.
Also my criticism has been unrelenting & constant & will continue until; a) I get banned. b)my sub runs out. c) I get bored with the increasing number of CCP Alts defending the indefensible Vs. the declining number of informed & sane players as their subs end.

Nah,I haven't ever been to Jita. I'm hoping its a simple hack, (though that's really not comforting at all) and I still don't think its because of my commments.
I've been calling bull**** on both sides of the warzone. I think CCP's done a horrible job of being sensitive to its communities feelings on the matter, and owed the CSM more honesty before Incarna was deployed.
On the other hand, I think calling CCP employees cheats, thieves, scam artists, and *******s is counterproductive. It's rude and ungrateful to the talent who have worked hard, even if its not what they wanted to give the community (o7 John Turbefield). We cant change the stockholders needs for money, or second guess them. All we can hope for is to demand a louder voice in the direction of major issues such as RMT, and be able to shape the WAY we give them more of our money.
I don't see what's ban worthy about that.
...one other thing - if this was hacked, what could i expect when I do regain access? Has this happened to others in the community? Did you lose anything?

Nope, never been to Jita. The character and associated account that got locked down were enrolled in Minmatar militia, I couldn't have flown to Jita if I wanted to. And I've never traded isk for anything other than a PLEX.
I'm hoping CCP can get back to those of us who have been locked down ASAP, to prevent the rumor mill for continuing to fear the worst.

Edited by: GM Lelouch on 30/06/2011 04:27:01 Hello all,
I'd like to talk about and clarify our account banning processes a little bit to give you a better idea of when accounts are banned, and why. There are in general three main reasons for why an account would be banned:
1. An account can be banned, either temporarily or permanently, if the account has been involved in a EULA/ToS violation of some sort. 2. An account is temporarily closed if we obtain indications that it has been accessed by hackers. An "account ban" is not really the proper terminology here as that inherently suggests that the account holder is being punished. These "bans", or account closures, are only done for the player's protection; to ensure that no further damage is done (if any has been done) to the account while its security is restored. 3. Accounts can be closed down pending investigation into some sort of alleged yet still unconfirmed EULA/ToS violation if there is a need to freeze assets while the matter is looked into. Such a ban might for example be applied if we suspect that a corp theft was conducted through the use of an account not belonging to the thief.
There are three "ban types" which can be applied to an account:
a. Temporary bans with a set duration, most often used in response to EULA/ToS violations. b. Permanent bans. As the name suggests, they're permanent bans used in response to serious EULA/ToS violations. c. Pending bans. These have no set duration and they're used when we need to freeze an account while an investigation of some sort takes place. This is the ban type used for point #3 above and it is often used for hacked accounts as well.
A message stating the ban type, duration (in case of a temporary ban) and reason for the ban should be displayed when an attempt is made to log on to a banned account. An e-mail outlining the reason for the ban should also be sent to the e-mail address registered for the account and this mail can be responded to directly in order to contact us here at customer support.
Constructive criticism of our operations will not lead to an account ban and the rumors that bans have been handed out en-masse for merely participating in the recent Jita protests are false. Individual bans may have been applied to some participants for EULA violations of some sort.
Originally by: Dinner Isu One of my friends got banned and CCP won't even tell him why. He emailed them, and they didn't want to tell him what he had done wrong. He has since cancelled his account.
It sounds like your friend is not sharing the whole story with you as there are no circumstances under which we will not tell a player the reason for why the ban was applied. We'll even tell undisputed RMTers that they've been banned for involvement in RMT; we might not tell them how they were caught as that would be counter-productive to our investigative methods, but we will never withhold the actual reason for the ban.
---
The Babyface: I've taken a look at your account and it has been re-opened at this point in time. Blitzproxy: I can see that you've got an outstanding petition right now, a response was sent to it by a GM a little while ago and the matter will hopefully be sorted quickly. Yuki Zetsubo: I couldn't find a banned account in our system which fit this character's registration information, nor could I locate a petition. I'd recommend that you reply to the banmail that should've been sent to your e-mail address, or send an e-mail to [email protected] if you got none for some reason.
I'll keep an eye on this thread for the next few days and perhaps address further questions regarding the account banning process if there are any and time allows. Please note however that disputes of individual bans will not be discussed here, such matters are discussed privately and a petition needs to be filed for that purpose.
Best regards, Senior GM Lelouch EVE Online Customer Support

GM... Two issues being voiced in this thread. First "I got banned for being a ****", Second "You just banned all the good people"
CCP has a history of banning dissident users during controversial patches.
This time a lot of community members of high standing have been caught in the net.
Check you net. Throw back the big fish, they're the ones who teach the little fish where to swim.
