Possibly there are a few high principled individuals, among those that quit over this whole rmt fiasco, that did it for the reasons stated. They couldn't morally support a company that reneged on its promises quite so blatantly.
I have a theory however that the vast majority were just looking for an excuse to quit and this provided a laudable excuse on which to ride out of town. I used to play another MMO, had done for as long as I have played EVE, 6+ years, and I was jaded, the only reason I was logging in was to bump heads with my mates online. I couldn't bring myself to cut the ties even though I felt betrayed by the company in question as they had introduced rmt in a similar fashion to CCP. Then one day my account was hacked. I had to stop playing for a week while the issue was resolved and I found out that I felt relieved. When I eventually got my account back I logged on, changed my password and promptly quit. That was my excuse.
Anyway, a year later I have resubscribed and have started playing casually once more, actually enjoying myself again. My friends are still around but I no longer feel forced to play. Rmt is now a fact of life in the game but you know what? It didn't change the game balance the way we feared, in fact you hardly notice it.
My point is that a lot of people who have quit in the last few weeks were probably looking for an excuse to do so and CCP have probably done them a favour. EVE is notoriously hard to quit. I have subscribed to the game almost constantly over the 6 years even though I have had several extended periods of inactivity. I think that in time many of the quitters will return and they may well find the game little changed from when they left. It's not a bad thing to take a break from online gaming and maybe a few of them should be honest about the real reason they are quitting. Bang the high moral drum if you wish but at the end of the day burnout comes in many flavours.

Would agree with this. People have been seeing Eve expansions adding pretty much nothing to Eve since they moved their resources to other games but really didn't want to quit now have a clear reason to as the truth is now coming out.

Interesting take on the whole thing. I have also often considered quitting. I was actually on the cancel subscription page the other day. But I don't tent towards impulsive actions. So I stuck around.
Now I'm having some interesting ideas. Very interesting.

I have to agree with the Op.
I've been bored with EVE for a couple of months now and have become somewhat disillusioned at the direction the game has been progressing. I like the sandbox concept and the fact that EVE is a game that has consequences based around your actions. This has kept my interest for six years continously.
I don't like the idea that players are raging about the fact of the cost of vanity items, that just seems like petty jealousness. My problem is with the fact that they cannot be destroyed and this breaks the game mechanics. The basic rule should be "Don't wear what you can't afford to lose".
Anyway - T-3 days until completely unsubbed.
Have fun and see you guys in another game.

I don't think you have to be that highly principled to be moved to action by the sentiments expressed so fearlessly by some CCP influencers. Some kind of tit for tat response was probably predictable and is possibly optimal.

I kind of agree, people have complex reasons for doing things - if it were not so then there might be the perception that this issue could be solved by a single action by CCP, which is likely false. I certainly have a raft of reason for my unsubs, some of these have nothing to do with eve but wouldn't have happened without this event.

It may appear that way, but this second currency itself may be an indirect consequence of rmt, some speculation and research suggests this; there are some other unsavoury, but entirely unintended consequences of rmt that bother me also.

Man, what's wrong with your eye? That looks like it must be painful. I wasn't aware that there was an option for physical deformities in the character creator.

Eve's content = drama.
This expansion has added so much content I'll keep subbin' as long as the tears on the forums keep flowing.
The most funny part about EVE is that people don't get that it's been a P2W model for years, just disguised in the form of GTC > PLEX conversion.
People are morons though and you're probably right... just looking for an excuse.

Have been never feeling sorry for quitting game. Don't understand your point. You are bothered? Get out from this place. Find new fun and enjoy it. Why waste your time? If your corpmates don't understand you and don't respect your boredom of a game then they don't deserve your care.
Now i feel little boredom myself. I'm not leaving before i have fun chatting with my corpmates and help my corp. However day when i really don't want login - i don't do it. And **** anything.
Eve (and other MMOs) isn't a second job. It supposed to give you fun. It doesn't? Delete it without any sorry and "legit reasons".

Something like that.
SWG was my first MMO. It dies in December. I can tell you every stack of Ore, every deed, every SEA, every hide I have on those characters. I don't play SWG but I know everything I have. I know my houses will get repacked on given months because I have maintenance up untill those months paid.
Knowing SWG is going to be gone in December, I feel a relief knowing I won't need to keep those things in mind.
I played alot of MMO's. The only two I ever felt tied to were SWG and EVE. SWG Mutated in to something it wasn't and while I refused to play, I never stopped watching, hoping for a classic server. EVE is mutating too. Not Incarna, not MT, not the Super Cap Blobs but all together, it is a mutation. Maybe it's time to snuff it out.
I don't suggest you do this Mr. Chribba. As I understand you, this is your golden years. It's your hobby and your passion. If I do decide to put EVE to rest, you will get the contracts for my Veldspar. CCP could learn from you. |

haha, trailer trash troll trying to be fancy, six digits in one single account, whoah im flabbergasted. 10-20k to charity? hot damn!
Now if youre talking about turkish lira i might be inclined to believe that, otherwise i think youre probably a failure.
Anyone with a semi decent degree should be able to earn 40-100k USD pa without any hardships. And youre claiming that $80 is a bad "investment"?!

Certainly they seem to be pandering to the lowest common denominator. I fear WoW might be a step up from this particular nadir.

I have to agree with the OP. I've been wondering why everyone would quit now. Seems that if they were really that dedicated to Eve they wouldn't quit just cause CCP "talked" about something. They would stick around and say MT is a bad idea at every turn, which alot of people have been doing. However for me this doesn't explain the rational behind people cancelling subs.
Again, I'm with the OP, sounds like a lot of bitter vets used this as their "out." But also as the OP stated, my money is they will for the most part be back after a few months once (if) CCP makes some no P2W statements.
