We all know how hot our Macs get. But I wanted to actual find out how the new Sandy Bridge compare to the Core 2 Duo. Running CQ on Med Textures, Med LOD (everything else low or off) on my 2.8 Ghz 2009 17" MBP takes my CPU to around 91¦C. The Core 2 Duo's run hot, but form what I understand, the load max temp for that CPU is 84¦C. When in space I get about 86¦C.
Anyone who is running a new Sandy Bridge MBP, I'd be interested to hear what temps you get. Follow Flynn on Twitter |

Edited by: Firenze93 on 30/06/2011 03:09:48 Without smcFancontrol, EVE has gotten to 90C . But I use smcFancontrol and I have my left fan going at ~4200RPM and my right one at ~2500 RPM; at those speeds my CPU temp is around 75-80C.
BTW, this is in windowed mode...I'm too scared to play fullscreen at 1600 x 1050.
I have a 2011 15' MBP 2.3 Ghz i7
Edit: Those are in-station temps as I have yet to do any combat in my ship. I have all settings on low too...

In space should be less demanding than CQ environments. Since seeing how hot things got under CQ I installed smcFancontrol, and have turned off the CQ environments. Follow Flynn on Twitter |

smcFanControl is the solution for any mac (except the Pro maybe)
actually the EFI seems do not handle very well overheating on iMacs too: my GPU (GT130) and Northbridge was over 90¦ C and no audible fan noise
moved the smcFanControl sliders to 2/3 of the scale: iMac GPU northbridge back to 60¦ C, also I noticed the internal overheating on both my new 27" (alu back/ATI) and old 24" (black plastic back/nVidia)
strongly suggested, its free (a WARM thanks to the author!!)

My 13 inch MacBook Pro with i5 proc gets to about 80-82c, it was crashing hard earlier today but seems fine now, i actually went out in ship and though i did not stay logged in too long, maybe 20 minutes, before i could not even last that long.

if your 13" MBP has the intel graphics in it, how well does it handle incara? I'm considering the 13" Macbook Air (maxed cpu/memory) when it comes out later this month.. I'm hoping that EVE is playable on it for when I'm away from my 27" iMac
