Originally by: El'Niaga A wise decision to delay but frankly I see no need for new forums, money spent developing them should of been spent on other things I believe.
I do applaud you realizing that if you wiped the forums in the next few days that you'd face a massive backlash just like SOE suffered when they wiped their forums during the NGE debacle in 2005.
The forums we use now severely lack not only basic features modern forums have (e.g. search), but barely have tools that work from the Community Management perspective (e.g. the delete thread button doesn't actually delete threads).
When we do move over to the new forums, we'll be keeping this instance open for a few days, and then archiving the material so that no data is lost.
In CCP terms, threadnaught would not exist if the comrades at CCP had it their way.

Try using old Login Info. It's based on a SISI build.
Good job on the new forum!

could you put a working copy up on a seperate server withuot any confidential info on it and offer a 2 plex reward to anyone able to hack in and post under your name?
You don't want to encourage hacking of a working forum on private property but somewhere where you specifically invited it might be a good test.
Do to all the recent fireworks...probably be good to have it particulalry safe.

I hope the new forums have a real "Keep Me Logged In" check box. I shouldn't have to keep logging back in every time I go make a sandwich, take a crap, etc.

That's... actually pretty smart.
Of course, should nothing actually come out of said observations then it's all for naught, but in the meantime, credit where it's due.

Can I once again stump for the idea of rolling the last 90 days to the new forums, or even last 7 days? or something? As a way to keep active discussions at the time of the rollover feeling like a continuous conversation? I realize this would take some work, but I think it would do enormous wonders for bringing a level of comfort and acceptance to the new forums which I think CCP would find very refreshing.

This is a good decision by CCP. I'm looking forward to the new forums, but right now is not the time. It would look too much like issues being swept under the rug.
That said, looking forward to August!

If its a browser thing, then did you not know that no one in their right mind still uses Internet explorer.

FYI: The test forum is running on data from an old Tranquility mirror. If your account not was active at the time of the mirror snapshot it will not be active on the test forums.
Similarly, if you have changed your password since the mirror snapshot you will have to use your old password to enter the test forums.

Edited by: mobius nm on 30/06/2011 09:42:43 So, can you change the width scaling, so that it doesn't waste literally half of my browser real estate on pointless background images.
I go to forums to read things, and pointlessly condensing them into the width of a mobile screen on a normal browser is ****ing annoying. It's 2011, learn to code a damn web app already. Dynamic is not hard. Or are you going to make us pay AUR for that feature (which currently exists in the OLD forums) like you plan to do with ship fittings?

Great news. I've tested the new, new forums and I really dig. Finally, we'll have forums with features that will bring it up to par with modern forum software! So many useful features that I can't wait to have access to. Thanks CCP. ~Gnosis~ |

Agreed. Forum functionality is better, although the real estate management could be improved still. Also, hope the security issues has been fixed (but havent read anything to the contrary so thats good)

Would rather see CCP put the man/woman hours into ingame content, rather than re-inventing the wheel. Again.
The "new" forums had their chance... they crashed and burned, mangled bodies and charred flesh all over the runway.
These forums work just fine. Stick with what works.
What's that you say? Forum access in the future will be a MT? Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I am also unable to log on the new forums, since the test started.
For what I have seen, they may have the functionality YOU CCP moderators love, but they have vastly less features than these ones.
I am amazed at how the new forums features are utterly inferior to every single popular freeware solution available.

Originally by: CCP Fallout Hello all, For the last couple of weeks, we have been conducting the second round of beta tests for our new forums <https://testforums.evegate.com/>. The feedback we have received has been tremendously helpful, and we are grateful to those of you who have taken the opportunity to help us with the beta test. We have decided to extend the test until July 8, 2011, at which time we will close the beta test forums. Originally, we had planned to close the test forums much sooner, and wanted to deploy the new forums over the final week of June, however, we feel that doing so at this time would be detrimental to the ongoing discussions regarding both CCP and the current state of EVE Online. WeÆve been listening to and following your concerns and criticisms closely, and do not want to risk disrupting the flow of discussion by opening new forums. We plan on deploying the new forums in August. Until then...
Fly safely! Team OccamÆs Razor and the EVE Online Community Team
This might mean what you say.
But a more likely option is that it means that you decided you didn't want to have the new forums with legitimate complaints...
I can understand it from a business P.O.V, but it is an a-hole move...

Originally by: gargars Can we assume that since CCP is now recognizing it has made mistakes in ingnoring the playerbase, that they have listened to the many complaints about their decision to not import the many years of current posts, and are going to do so?
Especially since you have a bonus two months to work on it, how much players want that to occur, and of course how much you care about our requests and opinions.
THIS. You have a two month delay to work out whatever vague 'technical issues' were given as an excuse not to import 8 years of history and information your players contributed here. To not do it shows a lack of caring imo.

so you're going to wipe out the old forum threads or retain them? You did this once before, when you went live. You did not import the old forum data. Do you remember?
The forums are part of the sandbox. It can be many things, but it is also a source of EVE History. You know the history which you advertise we get to be a part of making?

New fail plan (so far) is same as the old fail plan. Import nothing from the last 8 years into the shiny new forums, but leave the old ones up, so the customers that are so OBVIOUSLY important to CCP will have to spend the next 8 years going back and forth and back and forth and.... Incredibly rude if you ask me. Import the current forum into the new! Prove you care about us.

What are the chances of getting a run-through before the forums go live of exactly what has been done since they were last live, of what has been done since or as part of this testing period, and what will be done in the near and distant future?
Both in the original two testing rounds, after the first release, and during this testing round, there has been a lot of suggestions fielded, many of them being repeats of things that were mentioned the first time we got to see this yaf implementation. So the question is, how much of that has actually stuck with the web developers? How much has stuck, but isn't a high priority, and how much will be skipped?
Without droning on too much about the communications problems you have had lately, this would be a good opportunity to actually give some feedback on the feedback and show that the input matters. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |
