This isn't meant as a troll, nor am I a super-secret CCP spy. I've been playing this game since beta 2003 and it begs the question as to what is a viable alternative to Eve Online? I am not planning on quitting Eve anytime soon regardless of the outcome of all this hoopla, but I must admit that I downloaded the game Black Prophecy last night after asking myself the same fundamental question. I uninstalled Black Prophecy 30 minutes later after trying it.... it sucked.
I've even been looking on various MMORPG sites. I can't quite get myself to put on fairy outfits and join quests throwing magical potions, either.
So if you are truly leaving, is there a MMORPG alternative that you'll try? At the moment, I only play Battlefield Bad Company 2 in lieu of Eve.... so are some of you folks just going to give up the massively-multiplayer genre and play some other type of game entirely? Take up reading?
Sincerely, Anigav

Perpetuum online. They got so many players from eve suddenly, they had to cap their servers, lmfao.

Edited by: Ayieka on 29/06/2011 18:10:16 im getting pretty tired of the mmo scene. once you've played most of them, you start noticing how all the new ones are just the same.
though all my friends are ****ting themselves over guildwars 2, so ill probably get suckered into buying that.

None for now. I'll just go back to Fallout, and maybe some Arkham City when it comes out.
But no other MMO out currently holds my interests and is decent. Needs both for me to justify playing it.
Maybe SWToR when it comes out...

The devs at Perpetuum must be laughing their butts off about this. I checked it out. It's a sandbox sci-fi game. Instead of spaceships it's about robots on another planet, that you remotely control. It has mining and manufacturing and PvP. In many respects they seem to have modelled the game based on EvE. As you accumulate wealth you can upgrade your robot, or buy new modules for it etc. etc.

Seriously? Seriously?? Perpetuum? Tanks online? I've looked at these games and they are akin to picking up a crack ***** after having had the pleasure of $1000 per hour hookers, all your life.
I talked to someone who's played Lord of the Rings online since beta, and I can't bring myself to even try that.

This is who plays Eve these days.
As for me, Perpetuum is boss.

Unbelievable! (shakes head sadly) I'll buy playing Fallout or waiting patiently until Battlefield 3 comes out, but Perpetuum is "boss"? It seems suspension of disbelief must operating here.

I'm starting to think the guys who made Perpetuum manipulated the current situation in their favour, or maybe even had a hand in creating much of the hysteria.
It's blatantly obvious they play EVE from how much of that game is lifted right from it, and they'd surely want more people to be giving them money, so it's entirely possible.

Yes do try World of Tanks which is free to play. It is not a hardcore MMO per se, but it really is a lot of fun and the format is more like battlefied than EVE. Do it now.

I like the most hard-core MMO there ever was, with permanent death and universal PVP. Graphics are great too. The bad guys have as much to lose as you do and it's very balanced.
It's called Reality Offline.

I don't see that I 'need' an MMO. Eve is the exception for me - mostly I do single-player stuff, or multiplayer of the more limited non-persistant sort.
The only other MMO that I played and remember fondly was Planetside. I am sort of torn about Dust514etside - I don't own a PS3 and otherwise don't plan on it, but...hell, Dust could turn out good. And it's the kind of game I'd like, if it's well done. We'll see.

Im not leaving eve quite yet though I might as my schedule is looking like its going to be not conducive with MMO's...or games in general. But the mmo market is looking kinda blah in general. GW2 makes some promises to change things up a bit, but I remember WAR making the same claims. Really it was more of a twist than a change. So who's to say if Gw2 will live up to its promises.
I want pvp more akin to DAOC truth be told rather than the instanced stuff we see today. From what I hear about SW it's really like wow with SW theme, and more single player driven.
I'd really like to see another planetside. Skill to win not button mashing, gear, level, or overpowered abilities.

For me it's global agenda this month, or until I get bored. Waiting for guild wars 2 but will probably try out a few more free to play games on steam and other sites until something worthwhile comes out, which could take some time
Wish they would release elite 4 already.

The only other MMO i liked (for far different reasons) was Age of Conan. They are going freemium, but I don't know if I even want to get back to that kind of MMO. I hate raids.

Have you tried it? It's the same as Eve only several chapters behind.

They aren't wasted, they are given to the military industrial complex. The more you shoot, the more they make. They also make money when an APC gets blown up by an IED and has to be replaced.
But i'm sure profits are not a concern to them at all.
