Hello i am new to Eve as this post suggests by its content. I do not know the first thing about ships. What would be a fast ship for locking up other ships?

Do you have any intentions of doing anything towards this ship you plan to lock up? If not, I suggest a badger full of SeBos.

Where? I will also ask this: Did you think this was part of my post? |

Generally, the smaller the ship, the faster it locks up targets. The larger the ship, the slower it locks up targets. The size of the ship also dictates how fast it can be locked up by others. Smaller ships take longer to target lock while larger ships are easier to lock. There are also modules you can fit to your ship to increase your ship's "scanres" (scan resolution) stat. The higher this stat is, the faster you lock (1000 to 1500+ scanres is the general "cut-off" point where going any higher won't really help).
To check how quickly a ship can lock, check your ship's fitting screen (should be on the lower right). Alternatively, right-click your ship of choice and "show info." Under the "Attributes" tab you should find the BASE (the starting stat before skills and modules are factored in) scanres for the ship. _______________________

the skill to train is "signature anaylsis" which increases your scan resolution, which increase the speed with which you can lock a target. from there on its based on the ship type and things like sensor boosters or wavelength enhancers.

'locking up a ship' could mean you want to do several things so I hope I cover it in one of the following brief comments. If you clarify your intentions people can give more detailed advice
Interceptors are a class of Tech II frigates that are designed, oddly enough, to intercept other ships in PVP. They move fast, they are agile and most importantly, they have very high lock speeds. There are two for each race, one aimed more at damage and one aimed more at pure tackling. You generally can't use them on gates in low sec but for gate camp gangs you can use something a bit tankier (because gate guns will shoot you for tackling) with a remote sensor booster reducing your lock times.
BTW I hate remote sensor boosters!
IF you are just wanting faster lock times for PVE like missions and exploration then train scan resolution, and if you can spare a mid slot, fit a sensor booster. Larger ships take longer to lock down targets so if your Battleship is taking too long for you, step down to something else Signature locked for inappropriate language. Zymurgist |
