Edited by: SencneS on 29/06/2011 20:41:30 Why didn't CCP go with a more obvious choice, one that is considerably easier to create, one that I'm sure a good number of players would want regardless of COST!
Evidence the Designers are carebears... I present to you all something that a LOT of EVE players will want..

Apparently just you and I think this is a good idea.. I guess it is true, people that care EVE enough to put reasonable ideas out there really are carebears..

+1 but dont just make it an ingame item! you buy it through the online store with a cc, and then you get both the eye patch and the ingame item!

Wow, this is a great idea for all vanity items (or at least the ridiculously expensive ones). You pay AUR for your quafe t-shirt (that's more expensive than a real t-shirt) but you also get the real thing. Make special vanity items of all kinds that when you buy them, your character can wear them, but they also arrive in RL! Obviously it's not gonna work for sci-fi ish items but for lots of t-shirts, caps, eyepatches, it'd be great.
also - I agree. the eyepatch is also a very good idea

Thank you for what I'm sure you believe is the most valuable input in the entire thread..
However, I'm having trouble looking for the relevance to your comment and what was proposed as what I believe is a very acceptable addition to the game.. Care to elaborate on your comments? ---

since when does a pirate in space wear an eye-patch? ok it's kool to laugh at but it ruins immersion.
like how would you feel if darth vader or spock had a huge d*ldo sticking out of their forehead. it would **** off most people.

What does a pirate in space who's missing an eye wear then? I understand this is very much stylized as a sail age pirate eyepatch, but in the end, an eyepatch is an eyepatch, the way it look doesn't really change much over time. Not everyone likes having a nice steel plate fitted over his eye socket, or even an artificial eye.
Though I must say, if this was introduced, half of EVE would be running around with an eyepatch (yes, regardless of cost, secretly we all want to wear one in RL anyway), and that WOULD ruin immersion a bit :P "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool."

I don't know if it would mess around with the immersion of EVE.
Why do people run around with sunglasses? Why do people have scares on their face. When you die you're given a new body, scares remove immersion from the most basic function in EVE, death and re-incarnation in a freshly created body. Why do Amarrian's have a hood and cloak? As far as I can tell the hood has been used since back before recorded history, yet here it is tens of thousands of years later.
The EYE Patch is used today because it's cheap, and functional as a medial aid. I highly doubt it'll change. There are other options available right now, synthetic eyes, metal plates (as someone suggested), even REAL eyes that move but do not aid the person in any way.
Sometimes something is just perfect and there is no need to improve on it. The eye patch is one of them. If they where giving away synthetic eyes when you lose one for the same price as an eye patch I'm sure eye patches would be non-existent. But that is not the case, and this is likely to continue for tens of thousands of years into the future.
EYE Patch with your corporate logo on it, or patch with whatever you want in-game on it, is not so much of a stretch as people would believe. An eye patch does not mean you're a pirate, maybe that eye is ultra sensitive to light, or you do something which the possibility of permanent damage to your eyes is possible and covering one makes it so you're not blinded in both. Or I don't know maybe it's because YOU'RE MISSING AN EYE!
Now that is something that will happen for as long as the human species is in existence. You want to "Role play" in utopia where no one loses an eye or has any reason or job to mitigate the chance of being blinded in both over the task you're performing, then you simply MUST have the same complaint about the already in game option to have white eye/eyes. Your argument is flawed.
Just as glasses are part of you identity, just as much as getting face tattoos or scaring it up with deep gashes despite the fact you get a whole new body every time you die, a patch is part of your own identity to define yourself. Honestly I can't believe that someone who wants immersion and role playing would deliberately limit themselves to the possibility of NEVER having need for an eye patch.
It's just disgraceful and damaging to the art... You should be ashamed of yourself if indeed you ARE a true role player.

I know you said "not everyone" but if I lost an eye and have the option available, I would jump on the chance to have a steel plate attached there. |
