Unsubbed - playing perpetuum. Following the forums here just in case CCP do a major U turn but I fear that is wishfull thinking.
Is Perp perfect ?- no.
Would I rather be playing EVE as it was ? - yes
Does PERP have enough promise to make it worth giving a go? - yes.

Autopilot? No problem! It'll just walk at the same speed, straight into an object. Then stop.
I get that some of you like the novelty of the little indie game, but an Eve beater it is not. Especially, when it's essentially eve with spaceships swapped for bots.
It's an awful lot easier to make an autopilot when you just warp through planets, stars, stations and other players so don't have to worry about pathing or collision detection A devblog did state that they're working on a rudimentary one where you create manual waypoints, group them together in sequence and the bot will follow the path. Once that's working they'll look at adding some pathing AI to it.
It may not be an "Eve beater", but it has enough of the sandbox elements that Eve has (not to mention the game mechanics being identical in a lot of places) to scratch the same itch. And with it being fairly new and having a smaller playerbase, there's a lot more opportunities to shape the sandbox for a new player than with Eve. Sadly it doesn't have cool-looking internet spaceships going pew-pew but it's still a lot of fun.

Well, I agree now PO is about walking, walking, walking .... walking When they finish autopilot with waypoints I may look into it again

Holy God. MechWarrior 3 had better graphics than that, and it was made in 1998.
For that Matter, MechWarrior 2 for MSDOS had better graphics than that, and it was the first PC game I ever played.
(PO is a rip-off of MechWarrior/Battletech. Which is, yes I know, a rip of other things. With the MechWarrior reboot coming next year, I doubt I'll even try PO.)

Well I dont have a clue what I'm doing in game yet, but my kill score is 4-0, so thats a good enough start for me :-)
I note the comments on walking about over long distances and the lack of a fully developed AP, but it has to be said that travel in Eve is far from a joy, it was rather grim in SWG also, at least until the speeders arrived which improved things a fair bit.
It's a hard balance, we want a large world with small travel I guess.
I'll give it a decent look over the weekend, I think it's worth that much at least from my initial peek. --------------------------------------- -=Snasty, short for Shagnasty ever since the GM's in SWG made me change it...!=- |

I may actually resub the 2 accounts I cancelled. Clearly if CCP has gotten rid of attention seeking ***gots like you from game then their strategy is bang on. You made my ears bleed on ts with your inane drivel and claw my eyes out at your **** poasting.
Well done CCP non vanity items are a decent trade off for getting rid of the likes of these. Now if you can get rid of butterdog, snotshot, akita t, general windypops and tom gerard I will subscribe another account for every1 you get rid of. |

I enjoy it. Graphics is not the game itself. It actually IS EVE-ONLINE back in 2003-2005.

Just for the record guys, I wasn't saying perp was better than eve in this thread. I was commenting on how transparency and customer service and your give a shi t not being broken, instills loyalty in your customer base.
Hi Xorth . Also for the record it is a bit novelty, but its also refreshing and pretty fun.

You could also dig up a link pre-2007 or so and you'll find similar stuff here. Remember when we still had devs actively posting on forums? Nonsense and content alike? Real devs too, not just the brainstorming funky dudes whos main job now is to be forum janitors..
But yeah, I have a question regarding that link; can you join NeX even tho you're on trial? -

Originally by: Quotia You know when a vegetarian tries to convince you that Tofu tastes like meat if you put BBQ sauce on it? That's how I feel about PO. It's not eve, not even close tbh, but people are trying to convert other people to it. I mean 2 weeks ago, PO couldn't hold EVE's jock strap now all of a sudden its the model CCP should follow? When do all your subs run out again?
What's your point? Robots are not vegetarians...
The PO dev team produces two in-game elements that I think CCP has forgotten about : fun and smooth game play. The PO dev team still appears to be working for the subscription payers, unlike CCP who has the subscription payers working for them.
At this point in EvE, I have so many concatenated technical problems that I don't even want to log on: my system screen goes dim every time I start up EvE such that I can't see anything if I alt-tab out. The key stokes seem to be seriously flaky such that many different key combinations result in zooming to the targeted enemy ship. NPC cargo containers seem to have regressed to old problems. And the CQ takes away functionality by placing a new layer of cumbersome graphics on top the old garbage interface. No improvements, no fixes. I simply do not want to pay for such poor service anymore.
I am very skeptical that the CCP/CSM talks will produce anything close to monumental. I'll bet it'll be business as usual.

No, you can only join a corp in PO if you are subbed. Nex member here...

Well, tried out PO yesterday for the first time after hearing how many Eve players were migrating to it. We all know it's still pretty rough, but a couple interesting key points:
1) There is no skill queue to constantly maintain. 2) PO's "SP" flows into your account (not your individual character) as long as the account is active. 3) This means that if you keep the account active (paid) you are gaining just as many SP as someone playing the game actively.
Having discovered this, I plan on paying for a year up front and just letting an account grow automatically. This gets me in early so that if I ever do decide to play PO regularly, I'll have an account that was active almost since day one. I was not here for the start of Eve, but can see the benefits gained by those who were. Why pay for a year up front? For one, there's no automatic renewal on monthly subs. Two, it looks like a good game and I hope they can use the cash to help with development. Three, you get a nice discount for paying in advance.
My advice to other Eve refugees... don't do what I did. The less people starting early, the more advantage I'll have in PO a year from now when its all polished and awesome.

You clearly never played eve in 2003-2005, as I don't remember "highsec" requiring you to "turn on your PVP flag" to be engaged. Nor do I remember a time when you could only open YOUR cans and no one elses. It's a carebear paradise.
*It looks and plays like someone was putting together a tech demo in 1998. *Walk to point A past 50 identical trees *Performance is terrible, even considering that *Walk to point B past 50 identical trees *It is an enormous Eve clone. What are they going to add after they stop copying Eve content? *Walk to point C past 50 identical trees *It copies eve's mistakes; mining is in the game and it is EVEN MORE BORING AND TEDIOUS THAN IN EVE. *Walk to point D past 50 identical trees *It copies eve's mistakes 2; massive AOE damage weapons prevent smaller bots being viable in PVP *Walk to point E past 50 identical trees *Combat is terribly dull, as there is no difference between standing still and running about (there is no tracking in the game..) *Walk to point F past 50 identical trees *Ammo is so expensive you need to consider a loan before engaging. *Walk to point G past 50 identical trees *You can only armour tank and the number of viable fits is small *Walk to point H past 50 identical trees *Default lock time is 10seconds plus *Walk to point I past 50 identical trees *Lock time is an epic problem, as if someone else gets a shot against the NPC first, the loot is "locked" as being theirs. *Walk to point J past 50 identical trees *You can't bump people (you pass right through) *You end up training most of your skills to avoid the issues in the game (so navigation and lock time chiefly...) rather than anything useful. *LASERS USE CAP AND AMMO.. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND INVENTED THAT!?
Eve was better in beta than this. Also? I just tricked you into reading my signature. |

Edited by: TehMaster on 01/07/2011 14:32:23 The more i browse the forums the more I realize CCP has a pretty serious problem on their hands. Not that a player disagreement with CCP is anything new, but this time it seems to be more of a player revolt. Not enough for me to head over to etrade and jump ship, but concerning none the less.
Edit: Also, what's with Zulus blog lately? Whats going on inside CCP that we need to worry about?

I do actually agree with some of your points but...you can't criticise the game for being an Eve clone *and* point out all the things that are different to Eve.

By that flawed logic, having to walk everywhere is also "different." My comments went beyond what was merely different to things that just straight up don't work.
The lazors thing was a bit of a joke, anyway. It's probably 'balanced' fairly well. Also? I just tricked you into reading my signature. |
