Edited by: Alpine 69 on 01/07/2011 11:59:17 Dear Devs, and Eve players,
Since Incarna hit, I've lost the ability to multibox as clients keep on crashing, it happens most frequently when I alt-tab between them, but it also happens when just playing. Usually once I start up the second client it'll crash before I even log in the second character. I'm running the lowest possible graphics settings and I've got WIS turned off.
The error I get is: Buffer Overrun and then some random numbers.
Tech specs:
Quote: Hardware Overview:
Model Name:MacBook Pro Model Identifier:MacBookPro5,4 Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed:2.53 GHz Number Of Processors:1 Total Number Of Cores:2 L2 Cache:3 MB Memory:4 GB Bus Speed:1.07 GHz Boot ROM Version:MBP53.00AC.B03
Graphical tech specs, just for good measure:
Quote: Chipset Model:NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Type:Display Bus:PCI VRAM (Total):256 MB Vendor:NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID:0x0863 Revision ID:0x00b1 ROM Revision:3448 Displays: Color LCD: Resolution:1440 x 900 Depth:32-Bit Color Core Image:Hardware Accelerated Main Display:Yes Mirror:Off Online:Yes Quartz Extreme:Supported Built-In:Yes
I hope this gets fixed, because I used to be able to multibox, albeit in a slow fashion (decrease in fps and disproportional increase in heat.)
Thank you for your time,
Alpine

I have similar issues on mac, launching another client after the incarna causes the system freeze completely. Black screen, no response at all. Would be nice if you could fix this thanks.

What method are you two using to run multiple clients? One copy forced to run more than once or separate application support folders for each? |

I've copy+pasted the EVE application in my application folder. So I have "EVE" and "Copy of EVE" And I try to run those. I think those will have separate support folders for each client. Not 100% sure though. Does anyone know?

There is a sticky in these forums that tell you how. The method you are using is NOT the way to do it and will cause slot of crashes!

Once I have the first client open (windowed mode), I just open a terminal and "open -n /path/to/eveonline.app". I never bothered with copying either the app itself or any preferences, and it seems to work fine on my 27" i7 iMac w/5750, 8GB RAM.

Quoting from the sticky in the Macintosh resource thread:
Quote: to run multiple clients, just make a copy of the "EVE Online.app" folder
I know there was a way that involved the terminal but I forgot how that worked. Can anyone tell me how that one worked again?

Edit: Found it. Have now updated the CFbundle value. Will have a look later today to see if it works.
I'm using the way involving the terminal and my computer freezes completely every time I try to open the second client. Black screen.

Havent done dual box, ever, but decided to try it out as its gud stuff with cyno-ing.
Did the copying and emptying, terminal entry as described in the eve-uni article.
Works like a charm, although i can let only one box run full resolution and full effects, the other dropped it down to 1024x and everything off.
BTW, running these specs: iMac 27" Mac OS X 10.6.7 3.2 Ghz Intel Core i3 4GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB VRAM Running @ 2560x1440
Maybe I'll try 3 boxes soon with all of them low graphics, start multibox mining :D
