Fellow Capsuleers,
I would like to let you know I have been lucky enough to just witness the founding of a new, but hopefully very successful venture, that aims to keep all capsuleers everywhere up to date on current market prices.
The corporation in question is of course the New Eden Market Information Agency. This is a collection of loosely associated individuals (also called family) spread throughout New Eden aiming to bring the most up to date market prices to traders everywhere.
This is achieved by harnessing the power of a few select individuals, powered by the funds of many. In practice, this means they station one of their employees in every region of empire space, and have them check the markets as fast as they are able to (they are fully qualified for this job, and consent to being employed in this way, we don't do slavery).
At least, this is the eventual aim of the New Eden Market Information Agency. Currently, they only have an agent in Jita to see how successful this concept is. If enough momentum is gained in the first few days, they will station an agent in every one of the major trade hubs. If even that is successful enough, they'll slowly expand to encompass all of empire and null sec space.
Eventually, they even hope to make it so that you can request one of the agents to look up a specific item, and get 'truly' up to date information on the prices and orders.
What does this mean for you? - As long as the agents are funded, the whole market (all items on market) will be updated about once every 6 hours (take or give a bit) in every region where an agent is stationed. - This means you can go to sleep and wake up to find perfectly up to date market information on your fingertips - No more worrying about either exporting it all manually, using eve-central with it's consistently outdated data (bar minerals), or in any way do something yourself. - All data is sent to eve-marketdata.com and aggregated into the systems there. - Data can be retrieved from eve-marketdata.com in a number of ways, not the least of which is the ability to get a FULL export of ALL market orders. - This is all fully legal of course. The only thing that we're doing different is centralizing all the data gathering.
A list of all NEMIA agents and their activity can be found on: http://www.evemarketeer.com
The data can, as stated before, be retrieved from: http://www.eve-marketdata.com
I hope and expect to see all your enthusiastic reactions and possible ideas/improvements (though I have difficulty imagining what they could be).
Yours kindly, Callean Drevus "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool." |

This seems a tad prone to burnout. Would be a very nice service if you can keep it going.

I think I approve of this. I'm hoping it would make me more ISK than I would lose to competition. Seems alright though. :) Being a venture, how does this venture make ISK?

This is a good idea, I would however open it up for anyone to sign up to be an agent. The agent lists the systems/regions they work in, and what they will scan or have the system kind of list what they scan the most of etc. Allow the agents to place time and cost to subscribe to their service.
Consider this..
I sign up to be an agent, on my "agent" page it lists something like this.
Location - The Forge/Jita Schedule - 8PM ESDT USA - 12AM ESDT USA Frequency - 30 Minute scans Next Start Time - 1 Hour 10 Minutes from now.
Subscription - 100,000 ISK Subscription Length - 4 Hours of Data - 48 Hours of History Scanning - - Manufacture & Research/Materials/Moon Materials/Advanced Materials - Manufacture & Research/Materials/Ore & Minerals/Minerals - Manufacture & Research/Components/Construction Components
When it comes it, I check to see if there is any subscribers.. If there is any, I do exactly what I mention above. If I am unable to or the system receives no data collected. The system deactivates the agent, returns all subscription fees to the buyers. Now I am not the only one doing this, there could be someone else doing exactly the same thing but they offer to do it for 90,000 ISK a subscription instead. Or offer a slightly larger selection of items then I offer for the same time.
Some additional considerations.
You could go for even more detailed. All scanned data after 24 hours are blended into the public database but subscriptions can isolate the data for the subscription they paid for. But before that 24 hours, ONLY those that paid the subscription can get the data I provided.
From customers points of view, they could subscribe to as many agents as they like, and they get all the data from all the agents exclusive for that 24 hours from the scheduled time.
All Agents are able to authorize any other active agent with data for free but they have to approve them, it shouldn't be automatic, just if they both agree to share data with each other, etc.
Clearly The Forge would win out most of the time, but an agent willing to go out to some stations in high-sec closest to low-sec/0.0 entry points might be in demand, so Jita will be cheap because of competition between the agents, but those outlaying stations might be able to get away with a 1mil subscription request etc.
There is a lot of way you can go with this, if you open it up to dynamic and allow competition with players and PAY those players with ISK from people wanting the data you might just have a really great viable system here.

This is true. Whether it will continue past the birthing phase is largely depend on how much interest it receives.

Probably, not having to switch accounts anymore just to check recent prices in Jita. If all ideas realized, not having to switch accounts anymore to get (nearly) realtime order information from anywhere. It's not that it makes you ISK, it's more that it saves you. If you use multiple accounts to be able to be in multiple places at once, it might just save you accounts alltogether :P
Quote: Maybe it's a charity venture?
Currently it is. It's success is at this moment based on donations to buy the PLEX necessary to keep the checking accounts online.
The ideas that SencneS provides are interesting food for thought.
Aside from the incredible difficulty in implementing the given system, and the fact that I can't at all implement it unless I remove eve-marketdata from the equation, which means all data must be hosted by myself.
But it is interesting to think of ways to provide the data, or provide ways to provide the data to create an extra layer of ingame economy. Or just earn enough ISK with it, since I've got to feed my checkers :P

I would like to introduce: evemarketeer.com 2.0!
I invite you all to take a look at the new website, and make use of it, earn ISK of it if you have the luxury of leaving your computer on, or any other of such epic endeavors.
Any feedback is welcome. "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool."

I'm having major problems right now accessing the site? (are you updating now perhaps?)
Anyway, i'm always supportive to new initiatives. But some critical notes:
1. Why would people use this instead of eve-central. I know eve-central is not always updated and/or can be manipulated. But as a general price indication is suits is role well.
2. In the case that i need current market info NOW, most people will just login an alt. Your service can support people without alt, but if the feedback isn't fast enough, than people will still feel the need to create price checking alts.
3. Just a general tip, for sites to become popular, you need good content. You got to draw people in and let them see thnullat this is a valuable service. I suggest you fill all market data for a limited amount of time until users get used to the environment.

Probably not, what is this problem?

Because sometimes people need the exact price (I think they generally prefer it above an indication), and they need the exact price 'now' not the exact price a few minutes or even hours ago.

Given the system eve is using for switching accounts, the max of about 10 second wait the site provides now is quite much faster than checking prices yourself. Unless you plan on checking all prices on all your orders, this will probably be faster.

Pretty much what I intended to do, I had my computer offline this evening though, as there are some RL factors that come into keeping up this service :) I generally hope to keep at least Amarr and Jita working however.

Good! It's very nice to see that I can actually retrieve prices from a different place than where my own accounts are. Reaching the critical mass where this service becomes really useful will be the biggest problem in my opinion.
It seems the site is having some trouble sorting prices correctly too. Will have to fix that. --- "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool."

I just decided to try and see how it looks when people request market information. I wanted the price of PLEX in The Forge but the website said "No buy or sell orders found." I'm pretty sure there's some PLEX's for sale in Jita so I dunno what happened here. :-)

It seems the server decided (for whatever reason) that your request did not contain a type id, which translates to requesting a name which doesn't exist. Might it be possible you didn't select the item from the dropdown but instead just typed 'PLEX'?
I have to agree though that this is a flaw in the system, since if the item doesn't exist it shouldn't start a query at all. This has been fixed, and the website now shows you if you enter nonexistant items. --- "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool."

Pardon me for being unduly thick, but how do I get an UploadID?
I did all the malarky with the trust and reload, both in and out of the client, and nothing has appeared anywhere.

Edited by: Callean Drevus on 07/07/2011 13:52:39 That's odd... it's on the deliver page. You really can't miss it, it's the only input box on the page.
It seems you have not yet been detected by the server. Have you entered a password on the deliver page already? I feel now that I might need to add some steps to the 'how does this work' page, as it's a bit obscure indeed. --- "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool."

Good news! You now receive an amount of ISK based on the number of uploaders in the region where you are, meaning empty regions are very much more profitable than regions where people are already uploading.

Questions, problems, comments? Mail, or chat (if online) EM Jita Audene"
I have clicked on the Trust link then I have clicked on the Reload link. I see no entry control anywhere. |

What is the take-up like on this scheme? I am wondering, given the lack of responses, that there's only going be about four people involved with this. |

I imagine you think it is going nowhere, which frankly, it is. I'd thought to have my computer running all day to keep this up, but my RL is interfering. Otherwise, I'm paying for it :P but using it as a price checker alt for myself versus using it as a price checker alt for everyone is pretty much not a problem.

I am looking into this. I'm having difficulty reproducing. UPDATE: It should be fixed now.

Given the amount of people involved in MD, it is to be expected that not many will be interested. I'm given to understand that MD is also more about investment and speculation, but I'm at a loss on how to reach the people who would actually use this, namely the people who actually do trade runs. If you've got any ideas, they would be very welcome. |
