I honestly have no idea... what have I just heard?
My ears are in disbelief
Lol, fair play Pixxie. Keep it up; I genuinely laughed out loud for real a good few times. "...In EVE, blue in generally a friendly colour..." - brilliant, lol - and not at all wrong.
If my Great-great-great-grandmother hadn't been so common, she'd have made a kick-ass podcast like this :)))
Really looking forward to the next one. God help me, though...

Go for it girl! Happy you've got into the game: it's big, weird, and now is far a more colourful New Eden than we used to live in
Best of luck.

You have a really pleasant voice to listen to, and you speak very well and are actually interesting.
I hope you keep going with this. I know podcasting can be a lot of effort.
I'd recommend you make a twitter account for Pixxie and get on the tweetfleet list. Get to know the EVE blogging and podcast community better through there.
Also, come join the WGOE (women gamers of EVE) ingame channel sometime. There's a couple of girls in there that are podcast show hosts as well.
All the best!

Welcome to the EVE Online Pod-Sphere! Haven't listened yet, but I'm currently downloading on my Droid and will be shortly.
I have to +1 Laedy's advice. Joining Tweetfleet is a great idea and joining WGoE is a must. There's a lot of good conversation in the channel. Plus we're planning an event so get on board!

Listening now, have to say it is quite entertaining! I wasn't expecting that from a 'newb' podcast, but it genuinely is pretty good. Keep it up!

Nice podcast. Really like the newbies perspective. Also take a look at exploration and that archeology 5 will be very useful especially if you at some point head into w-space.
Shameless plug. If you want some easy, cheap, fun pvp, RVB is a very nice place to get going. R-V-B chat channel ingame.

Aaargh me hearties! :p
Thanks for the friendly posts, kinda relieved that the show was worthwhile for some (coulda been hella embarassing :p). I'm a bit shy of being public, so will take my time and think about the social stuff like Tweeting which I've never done etc, probably since real life is a zoo. I kinda wanted to do an Anonymous podcast, which is why Pixxie Twilight is a front name, and my real characters are incognito/undercover.
Looks like Eve has way more of these podcasts than I thought! That's brilliant since my other game seems to only have one or two (aka DDO). Means there's no pressure too. Hehe.
Next show will be when I think I have enough to chat about. Probably at the three or four week mark.
Should mention it's available on iTunes now. Will update the OP post.
Chow!

Edited by: Pixxie Twilight on 20/07/2011 17:53:01 Hi,
In middle of making the next episode. I slapped myself with a forum ban after updating thread with the wrong character (ouch), such a newbie mistake to make, but the forum admins helped by removing that post. I've got this down now. Figured out how to make Pixxie my default forum avatar.
Gimme a few more days to finish the show, doing it in segments as I have time. Hope I remember how to do everything.
I'm starting to get that this can be a lot of work. Definitely will only put out eps as I find enough to fill them. Feel free to correct anything I don't get right.
I've joined the Tweetfleet, so if I'm around you can give a twit a tweet though I can't promise to hang out in there much - real life is crazy. But I'll check it out from time to time.
Thanks again for the responses, I appreciate them much.
Mwah!

Close enough, that's the right area. Zimbabwe for 17 years, little time in South Africa too. Thanks to meine Mutter and my Dad, I'm half German with a sort of British accent.

The weekend's been a bit crazy, but I'm getting around to updating this thread.
Episode 2 of the podcast is up now on both podbean.com and iTunes, and I've joined the Twitter Tweetfleet list. (Though I can't guarantee that I'll pay regular attention to Twitter.)
Quick footnote - I've been getting some offers to help me in game, and although I truly appreciate the kindness, I'm going to keep my character identities in the dark. I want to be independent even if it means messing up or taking longer to hit milestones. Additionally, I can't be sure that there isn't a slim chance of getting a big fat bullseye on my characters if they go public, which could hamper playing - aka unintended consequences. After all, Eve is PvP ambush central and mischief abounds. So though I sincerely appreciate the generous gestures etc, I believe this is the way to go. Also, I will not accept any gifts to my placeholder character. I don't want to cut corners. I'm just fine with doing things with the other newbs in corp and with referring to player resources like Eve Survival. As things stand, based on the size of the playerbase in contrast to the small number of players who've even heard my show, the odds of anyone in game connecting me to the show are about at the level of finding a piece of dust on the beach. :D Which is kind of cool. Feel free, however, to give me tips or corrections - that would be brilliant.
Thanks much! I'm off to try my first level 2 mission!! Yikes!

Really nice podcast...sounds like you're definitely not a noob to podcasting though! Anyway, I love hearing about EVE from the standpoint of a new player, it brings back some fun memories.
I'd offer to help you out with missioning and/or some basic PVPing, but I get that you want to do it yourself. Best of luck in the game and keep the podcasts coming.

P Cala, thanks for the post, I'm happy that you enjoyed the show.
Nowadays, podcasting is pretty easy ~ even with no background in the area, and I'm proof of that. It's funny that I was inspired by a Star Wars Tor podcast to make one about Eve! ~ Go figure.
This is how I did it:
Internet: Watch How to podcast videos on Youtube. Youtube has it all, from describing exactly how to create a podcast, to how to get podcasts onto the podbean hosting site, and even how to submit the RSS feed to iTunes.
Software: Find reviews of podcasting software (Propaganda software got the best reviews so I bought that one).
Equipment: Check microphone reviews (on youtube and amazon.com). I bought the mike from Tigerdirect.com.
Extras: On the internet, I looked into free podcast music. I decided to subscribe to Magnatune for better variety - as long as I don't profit from the show, I can use their music with no license fees just the subscription fees.
Advice: Finally I picked the brain of a good MMO friend with a heavy metal/film score background - he gave me a quick crash course via Ventrilo on some of the features of the editing software (volume adjustments, how to remove random noises/breathing, layer music under speech tracks, etc). Apparently he'd used that type of software before. He really helped me feel brave about it.
So all in all, it's added up to what I've got. If a fluff like me can do it, so can you! Heh!
Cheers,

http://skilltrainingcomplete.com/ is a good resource for answers to things you may not be fully aware about.
Some of this podcast was a little bit painful for me to listen to, because I just wanted to ring you and correct it, before you made any silly misconceptions which could ruin your fun in the long term, or short for that matter.
I'd have the recommendation of not comparing this to other MMOs you may have played - there is no linear progression in EvE what so ever (there is really only one goal, and that's to have enough ISK for what you want to do, that's the only 'grind' (I enjoy trading, a lot)). Skills are not a way of gaining a distinctive advantage over some one else. It's all about specialisation in EvE. I may have 30m skill points than you overall for example, but thereÆs only going to be 3-5m skill points that matter in a combat situation, as well as so many other factors: ship class, location, pilots awareness etc.
I'd also like to add that a new pilot is as useful, as other pilots are - a tackler can make or brake a conflict, a scout can provide enough warning for the fleet to safe up, if they're about to be blob'd, for example sakes.
Though be careful when joining a corporation, a lot of them will provide a skill training plan that best suites their style of play, and/or for the corporations benefit, but you may find mind-numbingly boring. Space is a cold, harsh place and that mentality is equal in the players - which is what makes this game so absolutely fun and addicting.
Oh and whilst I'm here, the evelopedia has a fantastic article on common abbreviations: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Glossary (Warning: it's quite long and a lot of it is just common sense)
We disagree on a lot of opinions too, maybe that's because you've yet to have the new player epiphany of how EvE truly works - but the production of your podcast is of great quality, and I'll be paying a close ear to see how this progresses, as you do in the 'verse.

I think the epiphany you mention is still out of reach, and my understanding is 90 % speculative. You could be right about my opinions, it's hard for me to know if they are out of sync because of my overall inexperience or from other factors (people can be vastly different).
Right now, my approach is have fun while learning, and to know what I'm doing and why - details matter. So, if I can't see the forest for the trees, that's probably my newness, and if not then oh dear, I'm likely to get scolded to a certain extent. That would be kinda hard even if I learn from it, but c'est la vie I suppose, and maybe it won't happen so I'm not going to worry right now. I want to be an optimist and I want things to work out!
By the way, thanks for the links. I was just looking for abbreviations, and there you have a link for them. Super!
