Edited by: Yarrrrrhh on 06/07/2011 09:44:55 Here's an incomplete list of CCPs atrocious failures of the last few months. I thought it might be useful for anyone who doesn't know why the community is so upset (newer players and journalists).
1. Demanding 99$ a year from developers for a service they provide for free. 2. Breaking turret icons which were perfectly fine before. 3. Releasing the NEX Store with 7 Items after working on it for 6 years. 4. Selling virtual monocles for the new currency AUR in this store for a value of 80 US Dollar - effectively costing more than a Dreadnaught 5. Believing that customers are so dense that they don't notice that CCP only introduced this new currency to cover up the idiocy that a monocle is worth more than a giant spaceship. 6. Releasing Incarna without checking if it might melt graphic cards (which it does). 7. Breaking Ship bonuses, one of the most important features of EVE. Not fixing it weeks after the expansion has gone live. 8. Leaking an internal email from their CEO which states that players voiced opinions don't matter. 9. Leaking an internal newsletter which states that CCP sees players as golden geese. 10. Referring to that newsletter in the CEO email and saying that it shows which intentions CCP has for EVE in the future. Quote: We have communicated our intention here internally in very wide circles through the Virtual Economy Summit presentation at the GSM, our Fearless newsletter, sprint reviews ...
11. Lying about that later on in public. Quote: We accept CCP's position that Fearless is a deliberately controversial internal publication and does not represent the policy of CCP Management
12. Holding a press conference with the representatives of the player base where the chairman of said group of representatives gives everyone voicing their opinions anywhere the forums the finger ... after implying that this whole situation could be averted had CCP done a better job at communication with the playerbase.

I donÆt really give a sh*t what they say. In fact, if you look at any of my posts in dealing with them, I actively go out of my way to antagonize them because IÆm a cruel person and I enjoy making people like that angry, and from a political perspective itÆs also good to marginalize them.

Originally by: Syphon Lodian You mean, why You are upset, and why a very small minority in the community are "upset"?
That same minority which is by and large still playing, just whining on the forums looking for attention?
Sorry, I guess I should say I'm a CCP alt, and a part-time Alien Gray diplomatic envoy that works with the CIA and NSA in combating dissent in video game forums.
Thousands of unsubscribed accounts mean that that I'm not talking for a small minority. A minority, maybe. But it's definitely not small.

I seriously hope journalists dont take that list, most of it is totally irrelevant.
You could help them by pointing out which part of it actually is irrelevant. And then explaining why. I'm not pretending to be unbiased. I'm just trying to help.

The problem is you presenting your malformed opinions on behalf of all eve players to internet "journalists" whose integrity is at best questionable.
I'm backing my 'opinions' up with links to facts. What - other than your own opinion - are you bringing to the table?

Let me define 'facts' for you.
I consider 'facts' to be the things that people at CCP say and which CCP PR or they themselves have not denied after they became public.
If they say something and don't deny it, then I consider it a fact.

If that ship has better stats than a regular Erebus and CCP literally spawns it out of thin air it is unbalanced because it destroys the ingame titan market since industrialists cannot compete with CCP.

So we just have Industrialists buy their stuff for $1000 too. See, balance is restored. Everybody pays, everybody wins. That's not just balance, that's CCP Balance, Hilmar "Mittani" Petersen Bank Balance.
You've got a point there. **** that kind of balance though.

You seriously need to look up the word 'context'. Because I don't think you really know what it means.
I'm not quoting out of context.

Wasn't the $99 per year fee *only* charged to developers who either charge or accept donations for the services they provide?
Sites that don't charge fees or accept donations but use CCP IP only need to sign a non-commercial license, which I am guessing, does not incur the $99 a year fee. I dunno, I might be misreading the dev blog wrong....
The issue with that was that is impossible to clearly define what a 'donation' is and therefore to be legally on the safe side every developer would probably have to pay the fee.

Well if the 3rd party developer had a paypal donate button on their site, it is clearly accepting donations, and if there is no links or buttons for donations then the developer couldn't be accused of accepting donations...
Imagine I don't like your free site. I therefore transfer you 100 million ISK, take a screenshot of it, send it to CCP.
You've just received a donation of 100 million ISK and need to lawyer up.
I think that was the way Chribba argumented concerning that issue.

I'm not just criticizing the failures but also that there's so many. When developers have lost touch with a large part of their players then that is usually the end of every game.

I'm sorry, I must have made the impression that I actually read what you posted earlier. I was just seeing the wall of text with numbers next to it so I was assuming you were defending CCP as everyone else does who answers to my initial post point by point trying to disprove facts.
I apologize.

Edited by: Yarrrrrhh on 06/07/2011 17:09:18 I think the 'don't listen to what they say, react to what they do' attitude is what makes the discussion about how Hilmar meant it obsolete. I don't care if the leaked email was 'pep talk' and it the leaked newsletter was fake. The fact alone that there are people working in leading positions at CCP who write this dreck to be read by other employees is eye opening.

good thread imo, keeping it bumped. you forgot to add another reason why people are upset: old, broken features are not being touched; there is nothing on the horizon regarding FW, nullsec, ship and cap balancing.
Added that to the list.

I've also removed the Golden Goose reference because it is simply not stated exactly like that in the newsletter. Replaced with "I shop therefore I am" which IS in the newsletter.

Originally by: Jonathan Ferguson I don't think the summary is all that great, but that's just me. Here's how I'd say it:
The reason players are unsubscribing in droves (and other players are letting their accounts lapse but are not given the option to unsubscribe on the account management page) is:
1. CCP has neglected core gameplay for years and the game is full of bugs, exploits, bots, and imbalanced and unfinished content.
2. CCP is intent on greatly expanding P2W MT in the game, breaking core functionality and selling it back to its customers. This may work (and be acceptable) in a F2P game, but not in a subscription based game where many long-term players are already paying over $50/month.
3. Internal documents released to the public have revealed that CCP has utter contempt for its customers (referring to them as its 'golden goose' and urging its employees to 'look at what the players do and not what they say'.)
Everything else just comes back to those 3 points, imo. 1. Neglecting core gameplay 2. Obsession with MT. 3. Unethical, dishonest, contemptuous attitude.
Any 1 of them is a deal-breaker imo. If you're fine with all 3, you're a masochist.
If these forums weren't as broken as they are I'd add your statement above my own. But I cannot add any new words to the first post because I'm out of letters (thank you CCP). I would have probably written something similar to your comment but people love lists with 10 bullets and press also likes links. I would have to add all of the CCP **** ups to your neat text and I don't know how to do that because you've used too little words to link to all the fail.
