Edited by: Yarrrrrhh on 06/07/2011 09:44:55 Here's an incomplete list of CCPs atrocious failures of the last few months. I thought it might be useful for anyone who doesn't know why the community is so upset (newer players and journalists).
1. Demanding 99$ a year from developers for a service they provide for free. 2. Breaking turret icons which were perfectly fine before. 3. Releasing the NEX Store with 7 Items after working on it for 6 years. 4. Selling virtual monocles for the new currency AUR in this store for a value of 80 US Dollar - effectively costing more than a Dreadnaught 5. Believing that customers are so dense that they don't notice that CCP only introduced this new currency to cover up the idiocy that a monocle is worth more than a giant spaceship. 6. Releasing Incarna without checking if it might melt graphic cards (which it does). 7. Breaking Ship bonuses, one of the most important features of EVE. Not fixing it weeks after the expansion has gone live. 8. Leaking an internal email from their CEO which states that players voiced opinions don't matter. 9. Leaking an internal newsletter which states that CCP sees players as golden geese. 10. Referring to that newsletter in the CEO email and saying that it shows which intentions CCP has for EVE in the future. Quote: We have communicated our intention here internally in very wide circles through the Virtual Economy Summit presentation at the GSM, our Fearless newsletter, sprint reviews ...
11. Lying about that later on in public. Quote: We accept CCP's position that Fearless is a deliberately controversial internal publication and does not represent the policy of CCP Management
12. Holding a press conference with the representatives of the player base where the chairman of said group of representatives gives everyone voicing their opinions anywhere the forums the finger ... after implying that this whole situation could be averted had CCP done a better job at communication with the playerbase.

You mean, why You are upset, and why a very small minority in the community are "upset"?
That same minority which is by and large still playing, just whining on the forums looking for attention?
Sorry, I guess I should say I'm a CCP alt, and a part-time Alien Gray diplomatic envoy that works with the CIA and NSA in combating dissent in video game forums.

Thousands of unsubscribed accounts mean that that I'm not talking for a small minority. A minority, maybe. But it's definitely not small.

wow alot of what is written there is utter s*** i mean srsly, lots of it is already outdated.
Now to the fact about people, what they are really mad about is nothing, they whine to whine, everything now in EvE is just fine as long as you can disable CQ but they could improve that, ive only seen 2 bugs in eve, crashes and the warp bubble not being there.
turret icons are better now, and id love them to stay that way or be improved.
F*** ship spinning find another hobby or press fitting and spin ur ship.
Nex store is ppl's choice to buy stuff this is not giving anyone an advantage so stop being pointless
*3 Have you not read the forums? with all the kiddies finally home screaming and crying i am actually surprised CCP could roll out the nex store so soon.
*4 it is ur choice to buy it, problem??
*5 ur just throwing it words now, you can just say that is what they are doing without any proof -.-
*6 not really, get a better cooler, and if you have the side of your pc off then i will have to say that you need to stop sitting by the computer.
*7 hmm what?
i do agree on *8 *9 *10

Personally, I don't give a flying monkey's fig for the highly vocal minority because I believe their position on this to be misguided and fallacious.
CCP have recognised their failure to achieve an acceptable level of communication with the player base in this matter. In turn I recognise that Eve needs to evolve - avatars to micro transactions and everything in between and beyond.
However, while I may not agree with what you say I shall defend to my death your right to say it.

I'm not upset - I think it's entertaining that people with monocles are getting ganked in high sec!
At last we have a moral crusade that most people can agree with.
I'm looking forward to playing mini-games with people in space stations.

Hello drama-queen.
The monocle is expensive but entirely optional. No ingame bonus other then a +10 effectiveness to trolling rage-whiners.
Gold ammo was never planned, will never come. That was only the opinion of single CCP employee.

That would be 2 weeks then. You make it sound longer in your very biased and opinionated thread.

If people never let this rest, you will sooner rather than later look like the morons you are. Stop it already - the only result you will achieve at this stage is scaring off everyone else from this section leaving it the virtual equivalent of a RL sandbox with suitably aged inhabitants.

That's only 2 of the issues.
You failed to mention new features being implemented while previous features lay broke or unchanged since version 1. Or most resources being on DUST and WOD while we wait years for features to be fixed and we are the ones paying for it!

To counter a couple of points...
1. Most developers including Apple, Microsoft and Google charge $99 per year for their developer programs so I can see where CCP got this figure from. For me it wasn't so much the cost but how they communicated it.
2. Turret Icons are better now but this is down to personal choice.
3. Yes they could of released more lower priced items in the Nex but nothing to really get worked up about.
4. The cost of a Monocle was actually a fantastic move.
Let me explain a little. Every MT Store in every game always has a exclusive high priced item. Now they have released the monocles for $80 and people BROUGHT them. After a while sales will dwindle to nothing as everybody who is prepared to pay that price already has. Once this happens the price will fall and a New Highly Priced Item will appear and so on and so forth.
5. Just repeating yourself.
6. yes there was a performance hit but they had already stated this in a previous blog. As for melting GPU this just shows your lack of knowledge. Software can not destroy hardware. Even if Incarna made your GPU run at 100% this would only damage it if you had poor cooling.
7. There is a work around, use it
8. Actions matter, not opinions, this is a fact of life, get used to it.
9. The newsletter was just that, a newsletter. I have worked for many companies that have regular news letters/focus meetings were they play devils advocate to provoke discussion.
10. No it didn't. You can not just pick and chose sentences which makes your case looks stronger. Any sentence by itself can be taken out of context.
11. How is that lying.. Just because you chose not believe does not make it true.
12. The CSM speaks for the community of Eve because it was voted for by the community. If you are not happy then next time put yourself up for election.
Actions matter not words :)

1. Means we will soon see cool blackberry and iphone apps and many more things with the developers being able to charge a modest fee for them. Not a new thing been happening for 9 years with Ultima Online and UOAssist. "CCP also allows non-commercial apps and services" 2. They didn't break them and I'm sure they will be upgraded. 3. 6 years development on NEX? Honestly? 4. Vanity item is expensive. Targeted demographic buys them. 5. Blahblah. 6. CCP can't be responsible for faulty drivers, hardware and lack of maintenance. If your graphics card and cpu can't run at 100% then something is wrong. Many stress testing programs available for troubleshooting. 7. I'm quite sure they're working on it. Welcome to patching. 8. Yes CCP leaked it on purpose. Bad CCP! 9. ^ 10. Assuming that they're future intention revolves solely around that single issue of Fearless. 11. Assuming that everything in that newsletter and every other monthly newsletter is company policy would be erroneous. Maybe you can selectively point out which bits are and aren't company policy for us. Without bias of course. 12. Elected representative doesn't change attitude to suit people who didn't vote for him.

firstly you need to understand what the issue is here. CCP throughout the years have severely lacked any knowledgeable information about the game (until of late EveWiki). Many people through their own hard work and wanting help the community developed alot fo tools for FREE to help YOU. (Evemon, killboards, Chribba, Grismar, Dotlan etc) Now CCP are having the cheek to now charge these people for doing something CCP couldnt be arsed to. Now quite possibly this will have a massive and worse effect for eve community as these tools may no longer be available (and alot of people rely on these apps) because of this greed and idiocy. You can compare eve to Apple or MS and infact MS and Apple dont charge for SDKs actually.
2. Turret Icons are better now but this is down to personal choice. Are you really stupid? They are better! What are you blind? They are grey blobs of ****
3. Yes they could of released more lower priced items in the Nex but nothing to really get worked up about. When you try to market something, you try to draw people in, by offering discounts, or cheap items just to get people to enjoy it and get used to it. THEN you bring in the bigger items! This just caused a massive ****storm, becuase their marketing strategy was a joke.
4. The cost of a Monocle was actually a fantastic move. Holy **** i have not comment to this
Let me explain a little. Every MT Store in every game always has a exclusive high priced item. Now they have released the monocles for $80 and people BROUGHT them. After a while sales will dwindle to nothing as everybody who is prepared to pay that price already has. [red[ You seriously have no clue at all. So what your saying is you have to upgrade your pc, spend money on uber machines just to play incarna. Which is strange seeing that many other MUCH BETTER graphically games works fine? CCP are useless at this type of stuff, they implement stuff they have no idea how to develop. Its like old cobol programmers trying to develop in C++
7. There is a work around, use it You shouldnt haver to use a work around it should of been fixed! Infact it shouldnt of even been broken! Ever heard of regression testing
8. Actions matter, not opinions, this is a fact of life, get used to it. thats the problem, the actions, where have you been?
9. The newsletter was just that, a newsletter. I have worked for many companies that have regular news letters/focus meetings were they play devils advocate to provoke discussion. So why was CCP so upset it got leaked? Yes it provoked discussion, but you dont write something like this unless these are ideas you want people to think about, therefore get their approval on, and ultimately implement. This was a sounding out articale that basically said we want to do this, so what do you think.
12. The CSM speaks for the community of Eve because it was voted for by the community. If you are not happy then next time put yourself up for election. You may find actually the EVE Community didnt vote for them, their LARGE 3000-5000 man alliance did. Get it right. CSM is the biggest joke in eve and if they really think we take them seriously they are wrong [/red]
