The golden goose bit should have stayed on the list, it is really offensive. You just had it mixed up a little.

Tbh I'm simply not sure anymore if the analogy is really mentioned in the newsletter or not. And **** me if I'm reading that abomination again.

OP sums it up nicely for me. Bump!
I paid CCP to provide me with a game (=background story, settings, experiences, game mechanics), not with 'virtual goods'. The whole fearless/CEO letter/monocle stuff offends me, especially since Incarna does not bring any new gaming experience, but even reduce some.
Can't help but facepalm. Where's the iterations on all the 'crabby but full of potential' old content? Industry, null sec, faction warfare, mission running, poses? That's what I'm looking for.
I logged into Incarna, but all I got was a lousy monocle.

I don't think the summary is all that great, but that's just me. Here's how I'd say it:
The reason players are unsubscribing in droves (and other players are letting their accounts lapse but are not given the option to unsubscribe on the account management page) is:
1. CCP has neglected core gameplay for years and the game is full of bugs, exploits, bots, and imbalanced and unfinished content.
2. CCP is intent on greatly expanding P2W MT in the game, breaking core functionality and selling it back to its customers. This may work (and be acceptable) in a F2P game, but not in a subscription based game where many long-term players are already paying over $50/month.
3. Internal documents released to the public have revealed that CCP has utter contempt for its customers (referring to them as its 'golden goose' and urging its employees to 'look at what the players do and not what they say'.)
Everything else just comes back to those 3 points, imo. 1. Neglecting core gameplay 2. Obsession with MT. 3. Unethical, dishonest, contemptuous attitude.
Any 1 of them is a deal-breaker imo. If you're fine with all 3, you're a masochist.

If these forums weren't as broken as they are I'd add your statement above my own. But I cannot add any new words to the first post because I'm out of letters (thank you CCP). I would have probably written something similar to your comment but people love lists with 10 bullets and press also likes links. I would have to add all of the CCP **** ups to your neat text and I don't know how to do that because you've used too little words to link to all the fail.

Now the whiners here are grasping at the last straws.
Golden Goose offensive? It is an accurate description. EVE Online is indeed the Golden Goose because it paid for CCP and paid them quite well, even when the worlds and Icelands economy took a turn downwards. It also allowed them to expand and merge into White Wolf.
Yet while it is CCPs main product and will be the main product in any forseeable future, it would be terminal stupidity for them not to develop another product, because it is the only way to ensure the companies long term survival.
Remember Origin? It was an awesome company in the 90s and developed Ultima Online, but in the end EA would not allow them to develop anything besides UO and with constant nagging from EAs accountants and their most creative staff leaving the company died a slow death.
Most people associate Origin only with UO, but I well remember the old Ultima and Wing Commander games and with each release they set new standard in the in the games industry.
I don't want EVE and certainly not CCP to die. The world needs developers who are independant and have a vision for their product. That is something very rare in the industry, but also something very important.
Go ahead CCP and follow your vision for EVE. You guys rock!

It really boils down to a simple choice if you're a customer of CCP:
Stay subscribed if you're happy to pay for a steak, get served hamburger helper (with spit on it) and then be forced to pay extra for ketchup.
Unsubscribe if you think that a business should pay attention to what its paying customers overwhelmingly want.
Make no mistake, the precedent set here will determine the future of this game and will dictate how CCP responds the next time (and the time after that, etc.)
If CCP's customers stand firm and stop paying, CCP will cave. They're watching what we do, not what we say.

Very well put ! I think especially point 1 + the fact that the main focus has been on incarna + wod + dust for so long with so very little to show for has set a lot of resentment among a lof of players.
I have seen a lot of active players just disappear especially the past year or so, because of this. Most don't post on the forums, they just unsub and fade away.

Hate to burst your bubble, but 5-10k accounts from 3-4k people is not droves when total account number is close to 400k and people probably around 150-200k. People come and go as usual, trend so far has been more incoming than outgoing, effect of SpaceBarbie won't be known until quarterly numbers are in.
Originally by: Jonathan Ferguson 1. CCP has neglected core gameplay for years and the game is full of bugs, exploits, bots, and imbalanced and unfinished content.
So pretty much like every other game and real life comparison you can make. People will lie, cheat and steal if it gets them ahead, the only way to suppress that tendency is by force (or drugs). We players share some of the blame as we buy RMT'd ISK, we build botted capitals, we insist on blobbing thus diverting dev resources to accommodate us etc.
Originally by: Jonathan Ferguson 2. CCP is intent on greatly expanding P2W MT in the game...
Oh, Mind showing me where you get that from? Would love to see just how badly you botched the rudimentary exercise called "reading".
Originally by: Jonathan Ferguson 3. Internal documents released to the public have revealed ...
Would love to live in a world where everything was black/white and no confusion ever existed. Alas, humanity is a flawed animal and everything we experience is run through layers of subjective interpretation .. roleplaying and having a devil's advocate is a great way to cut through some of the filters so that a message reaches the cognitive function intact - guess what the newsletter was?
Still have not seen one single legitimate complaint that is not based on already debunked evidence. Believe it or not, the mere fact that CCP even bothers to listen (even if they don't always hear ) is huge and is for me the only reason why I stay.

Quote: Not to be confused with The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs.
EvE is the golden goose. Those people that attempt to profit from the golden goose by plucking a gold feather are stuck to the goose and their plan backfires. How could this be relevant to a topic weighing the pros and cons of MT in eve? I'll let you decide rather than force feed you my opinions as fact.

You got in one word "OLD"
New is good, adopt or give up.
Are you the type that gives up because ****s gotten harder or doesn't suit your style of play? I think you are.
Jog on EVE has outgrown you.
Or adopt and get the **** on with it.
as for your "all the bitter vets" I ****ing hate when people label us vets in that way, IĈm not bitter, I don't know any vets that are bitter, any vets I know that fell out of love with EVE left the game.
YouĈre a self appointed leader of a movement that exists only in your head.
If you really want to make a difference and make changes then do it through the CSM.

.2%? I'm counting 4 vocal drama-queens at the moment in the forum.
