Hey folks. A friend of mine and myself are going to be having a frig duel later on. He likes to run his mouth and I want to shut him up but good =)
He'll be flying a punisher with a laser fit. I'm assuming it's a decent, mainstreamish PVP fit because he got it from someone in our corp. We both only have about 4m SP so neither of us can fit t2 modules for weapons, etc., but he can use t2 damage control units and reppers, I believe. I need an Incursus fit that can capitalize on whatever weaknesses the punisher may have. I can use tech 1 hybrid weapons and projectile weapons decently well, but where I have literally 25% of my SP is in Drones. Would a Warrior II or a Hobgoblin II be better in this situation? It is the confession, and not the priest, that gives us absolution. |

With only one drone, it's so close that it's not going to make or break the fight.
If you want to **** him off, consider using an ecm drone instead. It might be completely useless, it might result in much lulz.

main weakness of a punisher is that its relatively slow, so keeping range on him could be a good tactic.

1MN MicroWarpdrive I 'Umbra' I White Noise ECM Balmer Series Tracking Disruptor I, Optimal Range Disruption
125mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S 125mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S 125mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I Small Auxiliary Thrusters I
Hobgoblin II x1
You'd want to keep range (I used mostly t1 fits for your benefit), the idea is to use the ecm most of the time and use the tracking disruptor when you see him lock you up, pulse your microwarp drive to keep him off you and try to stick at about 15km, you'll do hardly any dps and have almost no tank but you should be able to just keep range and plink away at him while keeping him completely locked out.

^That would probably work, provided there aren't any rules about it having to be a legitimate PvP fit, otherwise you will need to fit a point in there somehow.

That's honestly not a bad idea at all. Right now I'm using
3x Modal Light Ion Accelerators
1 Warp Scrambler 1 Langour drive disruptor 1MN MWD
200mm reinforced rolled tungsten Micro Aux Power Core
My biggest two questions are as follows: Obviously I need to swap out the warp scrambler since he's not going to be warping away and I think he's going to be using an AB instead of a MWD, even if he isn't with a laser fit it will wreck his capper hard.
Also considering switching out the MWD for an AB since I'm quite certain he'll be trying to use his own scrambler on me.
Third potential switch is swapping the tungsten plate with an armor repper. What do y'all think?

I would not take a blaster incursus up against a punisher. Just looking at it on paper, it doesn't work out well for the incursus, and blasters tend to suffer more from the paper->reality transition than other weapons.

Edited by: Oirienicsa on 06/07/2011 23:01:12 yea I assumed it would be an honor duel so no need for a point, hence being able to use the 2 midslots for more interesting stuff.
Edit: dont take blasters up against it, you'll likely lose.

If I was looking for a design to fight a Punisher I would use 2x Small Neut in high slot, with 1x Blaster; Mid slots I would populate with 2x Stasis Web and a AB. Never flown an Incursus, so I am not sure if that will all fit.
This way you will neut the Punisher out while speed-tanking a virtually stationary webbed target. He wont be able to move or shoot given his cap is non-existent and Amarr ships are heavily dependent on it. Let your 1 gun and drone do the damage. It will be slow and painful, but it will give you plenty of gloating time as he is just sitting there taking the pitiful damage you are dishing out and waiting that sound of inevitability, namely low armor/hull warning.
Just dont get smashed too badly on your approach or while you are draining his cap and you should be fine.
Good luck.

Try a nano imicus, warp in at range, set your 3 x warrior IIs on him, keep your range and set a tracking disruptor on him if you can fit one. Added bonus is he probably won't see an imicus as a threat and dying to it should shut him up.

About layzors: 1. em and therm dam -> 2x em resist rig 1x therm resist rig 2. they use lots of cap -> small neuts
midslots: web, tracking disrutor

He'll effectively be dealing EM/therm damage only, so pick your resists accordingly. At least as a Gallente ship your damage choices are mostly unpredictable.

The warrior is a little faster. The hobgoblin does a little more damage.
The warrior does explosive damage, the hobgoblin does thermal damage.
Neither will be outrun by a punisher, and the damage difference is negligible after you take normal armor resists into account.
I would seriously not focus on this aspect of your fit if you want to win - it's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Edited by: Teya Ihara on 07/07/2011 22:40:03 There's some nasty Punisher fits, the fight isn't in your favor if you setup close range brawler. A NOS/SAR bleeder fit will eat that up. You're going to want to stay out of NOS range, preferably out of scram range.
I'd personally go rails/MWD, kite at 12km or so, and wait for him to cap himself out with the SAR. That's about your best bet. Use some navy ammo so you can break his tank slowly.
Id probably also recommend a Tristan with dual neuts if you're feelin' a little more brawler with it:
[Tristan, New Setup 1] Micro Auxiliary Power Core I Pseudoelectron Containment Field I Small Automated I Carapace Restoration
Monopropellant I Hydrazine Boosters Small Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 200 X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
Modal Light Neutron Particle Accelerator I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Modal Light Neutron Particle Accelerator I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S 5W Infectious Power System Malfunction 5W Infectious Power System Malfunction
Small Anti-Thermic Pump I Small Anti-Thermic Pump I Small Anti-EM Pump I
Warrior II
Something like that should shut down any bleeder Punisher, Obviously then though you're somewhat vulnerable to some strange MWD Punisher fit. If hes a bleeder fit with lasers, he wont get more than a few shots off.
Edit: forgot to mention this fit would take a little finesse. It can't run 2 neuts + SAR for very long, get in close range and light up the neuts, then pull one neut off and pulse the repper as necessary.

I'm not sure how reliable or accurate this is, but according to pyfa, if you project 2 meta 3 neuts on an All V Punisher, he'll cap out in 36 seconds. Even when running no modules.
Better watch out if he's running a nosferatu, though.

Addressing the drone debate, I would use a Warrior. It'll hit explosive, his lowest armor resist, doing good damage, and has better tracking against his low-sig armor tank. Also, with a warrior, you can be applying full DPS with it even if he decides to tank specifically for your (kinetic/therm) damage type, whereas a Hobgoblin will suffer due to using thermal damage. |

The drone is worth very little in a duel and the Punisher wins easily. The most the Incursus can hope to do is escape. Tell your friend to try an autocannon setup on the Punisher so that he can squeeze more tank out of it.
Incursus is a weapon best used in groups, the drones when grouped together become very potent against other frigs. What the Incursus doesn't handle well is being shot at, so your duel setup has already put it out of it's element.

This fit should work against the typically slow punisher. Since its a duel assuming there will be no warp out so no point fitted. With this fit you want to keep him out at range and kite him with the railguns, you should use your vastly superior speed to dictate range and keep transversal up, the tracking disruptor will help reduce your incoming damage in addition to the stacked em/thermal resists against his lasers. The ECM drone might get a few jams off against a frig.

Overload your AB and guns, don't forget your drone, and stay at about 7km from him. The issue you will have is that his Punisher can potentially tank you long enough to wear you down while on the other hand your Punisher buddy will have trouble to hold you in place.
If you take too much damage pull even more range the further out you are the less damage he will do and around 9km to 10km he will barely scratch you. Pay attention to your scram. At these ranges you will have to overload it and be at the edge of its range.
Substitute the fittnig where you have to; it's a tight fit. In case you have reason to believe he won't plug his explosive whole use a Warrior drone. Otherwise stay with the Hobgoblin.
Don't use any fit which does not have at least a medium shield extender or a 200mm plate. The Incursus needs a proper buffer and anything else just doesn't cut it. Especially against the tough tank of the Punisher a pure gank fit won't work.

Punisher has 31.25km max locking range with max skills. Use dampeners to damp him down below 20k and kite him from that distance. Even if he comes up with some LR fits he can't do anything to you if he can't lock you. Cap modules are there because it is going to be a long fight (especially against a puni)

Myself and a corp mate started PvP characters round 8 months ago and we ended up with this same discussion, we had many 1v1's, him in his incurses and I was in an AC punisher... he now uses a merlin for T1 frig fights :) Maybe check out the RvB billboards for fits as they do a lot of frig fights, in fleets and solo.
