Given that Aurum can't buy anything useful right now, can we assume that the NeX store inventory is going to be heavily updated *before* the community goal web site deal goes live?

I think it would be nice if the majority of them were.
This looks to be a fairly panicked attempt to achieve the usual post new expansion bump in total subs. What the marketing guys should be doing is going to the people deciding things and demanding that they concentrate on the things that make Eve unique and that have brought in and retained tens of thousands of players.
But then the megalomaniac CEO of CCP wouldn't get his virtual monocle! We'll do things his way damnit! Screw the players! Monocles online! I want to fly a giant monocle, shooting monocles! All those delicious monocles! Colleges now accept monocles as payment and CCP Megalomaniac controls all the monocles! muah haha (manic laughter of the truly crazy and out of touch... seriously, so many asshats in CCP these days out front and center... would bringing tomatoes to fanfest be considered an act of terrorism?)

Oh dear - summer hole much? This is one cheesy vid...
I'd contribute a video about station games and long fleet form up times, but I'm too busy doing nothing.
Free Aurum? Something like one Aurum short from the cheapest shop item? Sounds like a Bright(tm) plan from the new virtual sales profit center.

This is a pretty well-timed idea.
I don't know many people IRL who play, but I do know quite a few who have been reading about the recent unrest and keep asking me about this game that has people so invested in it they're willing to spend their time protesting and whatnot instead of playing.
I suspect a lot of us have done the same explaining over the last couple of weeks, about how EVE is just more "real" than other MMOs, and this would seem to be the perfect way to keep that aspect of it in front of potential new players (as well as giving existing players a nice nostalgia outlet).
All that said, the trailer was indeed cheesy :D

Despite my previous statements I feel this is a step in the right direction. The players make this game. While the trailer is a little cheesy I think it's one of the best I have seen put out so far. You actually managed to describe a fleet engagement from players terms and I loved the inty burning 200k to get a warp in on a sniper fleet.

Anyone else see this as a really good way for ccp to collect video clips to display on the middle screen in the CQ? Cause this just seems like a no-brainer imo.

ihhh no, this time you didn't hit me with the video. RL acted gaming videos suck most of the time, too cheesy.
And the idea...well, i suppose from now on just nothing will go without Aurum anymore hm? I always supported the idea to write the history of EVE down, and you start...8 years into the game. Also, what about the battle-recorder to capture the events? Will this show up someday? But yea, the important thing is to tie it in with Aurum...i suppose, for you anyways, to get acceptance.

The new trailer is cheesy, sure, but that's part of the charm I'd say. Although now that they're actively soliciting us for marketing, I wonder how long before they take actual fleet battles and make vids of them, original comm chatter and all.

I understand how marketing works and you are being fairly transparent here about exploiting your player base.
On a basic level, the idea of using player experiences to promote your game is a fine one. I can think of many personal anecdotes which could be used in such a campaign. There is of course the issue of your definition of a 'reward'.
Unless you can transfer Aurum back to ISK then these token amounts of Aurum rewarded to players is utterly useless for those of us who wish to have nothing to do with the MT store. I can live with it's existence in game, mainly since there isn't exactly a lot of choice, but up until this suggestion it has been something I can ignore.
Now you are trying to unethically force your players into using it. I doubt these player rewards are going to be enough to buy even a single item from the Nex store forcing us to either sit looking at a 'reward' we cannot access, or to top up the amounts with plex. I am quite sure I am not the only person who wishes not to do so.
This smacks of forcing the playerbase into using the NEX store when they would otherwise have no interest.
Reward us in ISK, limited edition ships or anything else. Just not Aurum. ~~~

I fully understand the need to advertise in order to bring in new blood and expand the player base. This is good.
However, I question CCP's ability to retain said players after they've joined. The "sandbox" is great and all, for the few who can really take advantage of it. 0.0 and null sec remain either unacceptable or undesirable to most players in the game as is. That's not to say it's not enjoyable for those who are there, but despite it's impressiveness, CCP has yet to persuade any sizable portion of EVE's population base away from high-sec.
Simply put, the "sandbox" portion of EVE has too many risks and requires too much effort for most, while high-sec is too dull and under-developed to attract and maintain large numbers.
CCP's push to bring avatars into EVE and therefor appeal to the "doll-making" MMO crowd is no doubt a wise long-term move, but it seems wasted in it's limited scope. High system requirements for what is essentially walking around in an apartment with no social interaction is going to be a hard sell.
Again, I really wish the development team would see beyond a 6 month release cycle and really take the time to polish and develop a feature instead of chasing after subscriber spikes. Perhaps if time was spent on really making a polished expansion, CCP would be able to sell a true addition to gameplay instead of another gimmick.
I still maintain that EVE needs true content, like most other MMOs, and that it can add such without abandoning it's sandbox-style play. Missions, arcs, exploration, expeditions, and the like all provide an excellent, dynamic framework, and yet each has been abandoned in turn.
I am left wondering what kind of game CCP wants EVE to be. If it wants to retain it's place as a niche title with a relativally small subscriber base, then it need only continue it's current path. But if it wants to broaden its appeal and really build that huge universe it dreams about, then they will need to add much more than a new interface for ship spinning, nor can they pretend to offload all world-building onto the players. They will need to help build this as well.

Can you please start focusing on game contet and bug fixes? After the new forum fiasco, after the thunders before Incarna and all we got was this lousy room and after this Nexus store bs, somebody would think you would focus on something the players are going to really apreciate. Instead... you really get the feeling that you are completely out of synch with what is going on with Eve.
Please stop everything you are doing and start fixing 0.0, hybrids, capitals, sov system, lag, improve missions, add GM supervised events.....
