What a cheesy video. Just bad.
Eve is not real, it is a game btw. A game with developers that refuse to make content for the game we actually play, instead they make dress up barbie dolls and fluffy pve expansions and spacebooks.
This whole "Eve is real" marketing strategy is ******ed.

Haha! I live near Tunbridge Wells so I totally get this.
Anyway, I thought the trailer was really cool. Really captured the right elements of Fleet Engagements (calm FCs and decent pilots, etc).
As for the scheme; I like that too. And to everyone saying "wah, it's making me use the NeX, I want free ships or ISK" - I think the idea is to give no non-vanity gain to players over a marketing campaign.

I thought CCP wanted to post some dev blogs about the development that led to incarna in order to clarify a few things. Up until now I only see a PR campaign with a cheesy trailer.
Is it just me or does anyone else have the feeling that a big black edding marker is currently used furiously at CCP heardquarters that is keeping the valuable news from being posted?

CCP needs our help to market their broken game!
Marketing Eve based on how good it was in the past? Anyone trying the game will see what a mess it is currently in with little hope of improvement any time soon(tm).
Start focusing development on Eve and make it great again before wasting money marketing a what seems to be an abandoned game.

If we're gonna 'be real', how bout making the slogan a little more 'real':
EVE is a lie.
EVE is an 8-year long troll.
EVE is a cult.
EVE is a joke.
EVE is a sandbox. CCP is a 7-year old with ADD and a small bladder.
EVE is Jita and CCP are the scammers.
Griefing noobs is forbidden (unless you're CCP.)
EVE is a drug. CCP is a pusher.

Why don't you focus on making your expansion something more than a poorly optimized sh*tty little room before you launch a marketing campaign? While current subscribers have already been desensitized with your :AWESOME: tag on every sh*tty and unfinished game play mechanics, none of your new customer base could look at Incarna in its current state and think it would add something to eve.
Also, easily your worst trailer ever. Terrible acting, incredibly cheesy and live action has no place in the trailers.

Really? Then give me!
Pool all AUR together, buy stuff in the store and sell it for ISK on the market.
I wouldn't mind some free stuff :-) If you are too picky, sure I'll take it! |

Marketing campaigns and propaganda are part of any corporate environment -it cannot be helped. However when management actually starts believing their own bull**** there is a serious problem.
Aside from the fact that this video has terrible dialogue, it promotes an idea that people who play Eve are shallow and lack any kind of healthy perspective on reality.
How did this sort of absurdity make it past upper management? All of the recent issues in themselves are not a problem. What is a problem is the attitude of management, and corporate culture they suggest.
Eve is a game. Play it. Have fun. Meet friends. Use it as an outlet to experiment and try new ideas that would be difficult in real life. Take this knowledge with you as a person. Got a marketing campaign for that?

Once again CCP comes up with a totally awesome idea, while failing hard at timing and communication. If this had come up directly after the fanfest, were Hilmar asked the community for help, it would have totally taken off. If you had introduced this AFTER you had shown you had actually listened to your players and DONE something about it, it would have totally taken off.
Instead, you have Zulu call the biggest Rumble in EVE history "just a bit of noise", and then you launch a marketing capmaign which depends on player input at a time where a majority of the veterans in this game still regards CCP as "on probation".
I might be wrong. In fact, I truly deeply hope I am wrong. But sadly, I dont think I am wrong.
Good luck with this one CCP. You are gonna need it.

I think it's a really cool way to go about this. EVE is real. I agree 100%. It's not just a game. Whenever I try to explain some aspect of the game to my friends that don't play it I always end up comparing how close to real life this thing really is. It's an amazing thing you've created, a work of art.
So keep it up guys. And can't wait to see the site.

Eve was real. Some ppl play golf with their boss. I recruited him into eve. Now my 3rd party app runs on his server. I envied senior devs at work who played with code in their spare time cuz I never had anything that seemed woth coding just for myself. A refining mfg calculator for my former corp solved that. I code after work and get better at work cuz of eve. But eve is real cuz of play driven sandox. Not ccp driven content. Ccp remember... eve was real. Plz keep it that way.

Ludicrous, Gallente isn't playable. Hey CCP, balance is overrated in a MMORPG right? -- I do have a few expensive suits. However I'm pretty sure none is more expensive than an aircraft carrier.

Receive Aurum, buy clothes (or whatever), sell clothes on the market for ISK. Space rich people will get their clothes without paying $IRL, people not interested in barbie's dress-up get their isk, CCP gets good press. Not seeing a problem here.

New players won't know anything different about adding or not adding, for them, CQ is what it is and how it's always been.
And beyond the CQ, the rest of EVE is full of all the same potential it has always had. EVE is what you make it. It's what WE make it.
What are you, some kind of welfare leech looking for content handouts from the Man CCP?

I love this trailer. Gallente are the heroes (of course) and the actor is a hazel eyed young Mediterranean dream of a man. And the end cut to the hangar made me weepy. FORK YES. What more could anyone want? |
