I seem to have a problem doing a decent amount of damage using my Vexor. I'm using 2 200mm railguns along with Hobgoblin, Hammerheads and Ogres. I seem to be able to do decent DPS for a while but my drones are getting picked off very quickly. This is a very frustrating and expensive experience.
Is my strategy for using drones all wrong?

If what you are doing is mission running, you should wait until rats are blinking with yellow or red boxes. That means they targeted you or are firing at you.
They should then continue to do so, while your drones are safe. If you spot them stopping with shooting at you, recall drones, collect aggro, release drones again. |

This gentleman has excellent advice. Make sure you are using light drones on frigates, medium on cruisers and heavies on BS's.
Put some more lvls in Drone Durability also. If your ship has aggro your drones should be fine. |

Thanks for the advice. I think I was trying to use them as very expensive ammo! Can you set certain types of drones on different ships? I can only seem to send them all to my current target. |

As far as i know you can only assign all your drones to one target at a time. This said it doesn't have to be the one you're hitting just one you are targeting and which is in range.
However if you let your drones auto-engage they sometimes might split up but you won't be in control of which target they'll take out. |

You can split your drones: have the target selected, right click a drone you want and pick engage. Only that drone will engage the selected target.
Having said that, your best bet is to have all drones engage a single target. All rats recover their health, some more slowly, others faster. By focusing fire you lower the effect of repairs and make them die faster.
Faster clearing of the mission = more ISK. |
