Not sure if this has been around for a while and escaped my notice but whenever I form a fleet with someone else, even someone in my corporation, all fleet members take a small shield penalty (about 7%) upon fleet formation and each time one of us undocks from a station. We all have positive security status and excellent faction standing in the systems we're in. Anyone have any thoughts on this? |

You get a BOOST to your shields from the fleet booster.
The extra shield shows as a little bit of red until your shields regenerate up to their new, higher capacity. |

Edited by: Matalino on 08/07/2011 16:59:53 Actually, you are getting a small shield bonus from the Siege Warfare skill when you form a fleet.
With shields, hit points are counts up from 0. Therefore, when your shield hit point increases, your hit points do not immeadiately increase; you will need to wait for them to recharge.
With armor, hit points are counted down from perfect health. Therfore, when your armor hit points increase, you will immeadiately increase your hit points. However, your ship can end up with negative hit points if you lose that bonus.
This is yet another way that shields and armor are different.
You can see this more clearly if you enable the readout with absolute values instead of percentages. |

This is not quite correct.
Armor fleet bonus increases your maximum armor HP, while leaving your current HP percentage the same. If you have 500/800 armor, and receive a 10% bonus, you will now have 550/880 armor HP.
Shield fleet bonus increases your maximum shield HP, while leaving your current HP raw value the same. If you have 500/800 shield, and receive a 10% bonus, you will now have 500/880 shield HP.
When bonuses are removed, it goes the same in the other direction - armor % remains the same, so you won't go to negative HP as a result.
The only reason you should ever have a negative armor HP value is from offlining armor plates after having received armor damage. |
