Hey, I'm a few months into the game and I've been spreading my skillpoints all over the place. I got a decent amount in industrial, a decent amount in missiles and so on. So at this point, I'm not really good in anything.
But, yesterday I started doing some probing, tried some missions again and I really enjoyed it, more then I tought I would do. Right now in my hangar, I got a Hurricane, Drake, Retriever and some frigates(Amarr/Minmatars.). I want to continue doing missions and WH or any other exploration(I know cov-ops is good for these) so I tought a Battleship might be a good idea. As I'm sitting on just about 200 mil ISK I think I can afford just about any T1 Battleship, right?
But my question is; What battleship should I choose? I'm kinda attracted to the look of Amarr, and can't really see anything good with Minmatar, except Maelstrom. So, should I pick a Maelstrom or Any of the Amarr battleship? Just a few days training from both.
May be worth mentioning I'm used with missiles and Projectiles, and becouse of that I do not have any skills in lasers and such, but I will train those if needed. Same goes for tanking, only been shield tanking so far, except in my pvp rifter. But I don't mind training those skills.
Thanks! /Zeratul

For missions, the missiles keep it easy.
A lot of people use drakes also for L4 missions. Drake its also a good WH ship. That said, caldari missile BS are good for missions.
Amarr are also quite good if you like turrets instead missiles. Amarr ships due to em/therm dammage are not the best choise against angel/serpentis/gurista ( but excell against blood raiders), due to em resistance, but this dose'nt mean that you cant do them. The sansha nightmare due to impressive DPS also is considererd and excellent ship and the em/therm problem is not that big problem considering the DPS.
Minnie ships are very good for missions doe to high autocannon dps and selectable dammage type. Autocannon maelstrom is an excellent cheap mission runner. Vargur and machariel are considered one of the best mission BS ingame ( in line with nightmare or maybe even better).
What remain? Ah.. gallente!! The Dominix its a good mission runner if you have high drone skills, the other gallente bs's are decent but subpar other races ( even the gallente marauder) mostly because hybrid railgun do too less dammage and blasters are too close range forcing you to run after every npc.
Honestly i would suggest you the bs you like more instead to look what's best, theres plenty of decent l4 mission bs's. Maybe some are better than other ( often depending on mission rat), but all of them can do any L4 mission and dont disregard the fun factor ( for example i consider missiles boring).
For WH i suggest you to start with a drakeand keep it cheap. ;-)

Minmatar. If you already have a few missile and Projectile skills. Typhoon is a great BS. not too pricey either. I use it for PVP though, not sure what setups are floating around for PVE.

Edited by: Zeratul Kerrigan on 12/07/2011 10:37:51 Edited by: Zeratul Kerrigan on 12/07/2011 10:37:18 I'm very interested in trying amarr simply becouse I find using missiles boring. I wanted to try something else, Artillery cannons or Lasers.
Do you have any idea how a Drake setup would look like for probing? I would like to try hacking and combat sites.
I'm using This One with T1 fittings right now, just added a Core Probe Luancher in the last high-slot. And are using two invuln field. Can't remember what I got in the last med-slot. But it's a great fit for me when I'm doing lv3 missions.

No.
:)
Train your skills up first. If you're terrible in the BC's the Battleship is going to be even worse, and losing it costs 5-10x as much depending on how you fit - lol!

Oh I see, stupid me. Maybe I could train up for a Harbinger, what you say about that? Get a feel off how I like armor instead of shield, lasers instead of missiles and such.

BC is fine for most exploration and C1 and C2 WH.Take your time and skill up with a Hurricane.

I avoid the typhoon personally, it takes a LOT of SP to get that thing to it's full potential, where as other BS's are quite a bit easier. Though I will admit I did hear it's very versitile and a good ship if your actually have the SP to use it to its full potential.

Its not so much the typhoon being skill intensive and more about it using missiles/drones with projectiles occasionally for added damage. while most minnie pilots at that stage probably have solid skills for those, they have likely invested more in projectiles than those two combined.

Having SPs in everything is really good. A decent goal is to use every T2 module (except guns/missiles). That aside, try to keep Spaceship Command skills focused on one race, and spend alot of them in that race.
As has been said the Drake is great for WHs, and so is an armour Cane.
Or, a Geddon can be a good BS with pulse lasers, and it has a nice drone bay. If you want to go Minmatar, the Tempest is a hard ship to beat. allows for either shield or armour tanking, and has BC like speed and agility, and has massive DPS.

Go for Minmatar - most versatile, maneuverable ships and currently, projectiles are so much better than the other guntypes, it almost feels like cheating...
Hands off lasers - much harder to fit, limited damagetypes, worse tracking than AC's, horrendous energy consumption, Amarr ships having a laser energy consumption bonus where most Minmatar ships have an additional ROF bonus on top of all advantages mentioned bnefore whilst their guns consume 0 cap. Amarr ships being mostly armortanks allows for less damagemods, increasing missiontimes etc...etc...
And don't even think about hybrids - they're even worse than lasers...
