Quoting the May 2011 CSM Meeting minutes (page 3): "Finally, CCP Greyscale revealed the dark secret of storytelling in EVE: anything can be explained by Nanobots or Jovians."
Sure hope its a joke! Using Nanobots or Jovians as a storytelling device I can understand, but using them as causation is overly simplistic. Dropbear and the other content people have us drooling for more story and this kinda ruins it. I vote in hopes that true creativity exceeds Greyscale's explanation!

I tend to think its a joke. like how in Star Trek everything can be explained/fixed with Tachyons and the Deflector Dish.

Don't worry, we have a few more tools than that. Greyscale was just making a joke.
Sometimes we use biomass, too, but only when we want to make a poop joke.
(Not-so-secret secret: Writers can be flippant sometimes.)

Do you sometimes throw Candy Bars into someone's pod to see if they freak out like in Caddy Shack thinking that its actually said Biomass?

If you've read my stories, you would not want to know how I would use biomass to play tricks on people.

I did enjoy that story about Quafe using a biomass recovery company/subsidiary to create their new drinks. Was that one yours? Considering how life is rarely taken as sacred in the EVE universe (Sansha true slaves, Blood Raider rites, Gallente extravagance, Amarr enslaving Minmatar, those well-written methods of torture chronicles, and so on) you'd think Greyscale would have included Biomass.
Fake Edit: More poop jokes!

This brought a tear to my eye. I'm so proud.
And yes, I did write that chronicle. I forgot to mention that biomass can be used to make jokes about dead bodies.

Kudos are in order because it was very well written. Interview/Report style is very difficult. Also, aside from the overused "soylent" jokes, is biomass used for anything other than dead bodies in the EVE universe? I rarely see any other usages (i.e. the popup box for deleting an alt: "Are you sure you want to biomass this character?")

Thanks for the kind words, and glad you enjoyed the story.
While I may use biomass for cheap jokes, there are other uses for it. For starters, "biomass" is a rather amorphous term. We use it mainly as an organic ingredient to everyday object, sort of a new type of plastics component in the vast future (which is why it's such a great ingredient in clone makeup). But, at least from how I envision it, biomass can also be used for other things, such as biofuels, chemical components in terraforming systems, or even as a new type of textile material (if processed a certain way).
Think of biomass as the product of recycling or composting -- which is essentially what it is -- as well as an organic byproduct to be used in some industrial capacity. Add some other science fiction tropes, and the world is your oyster!
At least, that's how I see it. And if I had my druthers, I would turn biomass into a new type of supercloth, which in turn would make fancy and durable clothing items. You can extrapolate the jokes I would make from there.

Clone makeup: beauty supplies! Also: insert "Emperors new clothes" joke here. Or maybe a Silence of the Lambs joke. My mind is in terrible places today.
Edit: Seen the movie "The Fountain"? Using Mayan mythology's he tree of creation/eternal-life growing out of the corpses of gods and the honored dead.

It was Quafe+. ----- CCP is still under the misconception that by waving a bunch of (NeX store items) in our faces, we'll give in to our urges and (buy) them. Bring back the hangar view and its functionality! |

The flavor varies from person to person...
The whole "biomass makeup" made me think of a few things: Bio-mascara Blood Blush Eye Shadow (Made from the ashes of your enemies) Freeze-dried face lifts Pre-owned implants - only slightly used
