Edited by: Llambda on 15/07/2011 20:39:42 Oh, dear. It appears I have been found out. I never expected anyone to notice me quickly and correctly answering a question like that. I'm so embarrassed.

Dumbest? That's a bit much. In the Top 5, though, definitely.

Edited by: Grundle Runner on 21/07/2011 10:30:13 Am I the only one here that sees prices like these and thinks "oh, now would be an excellent time to start probing in Minmatar/Gallente space and selling decryptors"?
If the prices are steep, maybe it would be more lucrative to sell them instead of using them...go probe your own radars out and make some iskies! Use your head and undercut the competition!

I don't think it works that way, there are a certain amount of people exploring. And new explorers aren't going to explore JUST for getting minnie decryptors. Only if the price increase is VERY significant mission runners are going to switch to exploring.
And there's the skill barrier (not huge but still enough to prevent low SP chars from switching directly.
So supply is pretty much constant (maybe down a bit because of overall less activity in EVE), and demand is going up. Or is it? Fullerides are down, nanotransistors are down, and Fernite Carbide spiked a bit and is returning to decent levels.
Also in the secondary hubs prices of (minnie) decryptors are returning to normal levels. I had a long time order for operation handbooks at 10m in Rens and that hasn't cleared. Only in Jita the operation handbooks spiked that much.
So, i can only conclude that, yes, there was a spike in demand, and yes probably someone was manipulating the market. The problem is that with decryptors, people who stockpile them tend to use them as well. For instance, i have a quite large stockpile, but why would i sell them as i need to use them later anyway?
This prevents inflated buy orders to be filled fast, and prices to return to normal level takes a bit longer. Could be that the new equillibrium is somewhat higher, but in the end that doesn't matter as well as these costs will be charged to our consumers.
