My long-winded point is that it took a dedicated scanning covops, solid skills and over a billion isk in implants to get a lock. I guarantee you that very few pirates or anyone for that matter is running around with this setup. Unless you happen to be running plexes near a mission hub or camped chokepoint, I would guess your chances of actually being probed out in a (formerly) unscannable t3 is extremely low.
This is very interesting, now i am torn between going back to my unscannable set up or just sticking with the cloaking fit i use atm. I guess it will all depend on how long i have to remain in one system. Thanks for your input.

Then don't be an easy kill. There are plenty of ways to be safe if you are reasonably intelligent, a little clever and prepare properly.
Obviously you will never be 100% safe. But you can minimize the risk quite well if you do things properly.

I'm in exactly the same position - do lots of exploration in high sec, follow occasional escalations down into lowsec. Was following a Serpentis vigil immediately after the unscannable nerf, fitted up my (formerly unprobable) proteus and was narked to see the final system was Old Man's Star - which if you don't know it, is really busy - can be over 40 folks.
Anyway, thought I'd rely on the locals still finding me a very hard scan target, went in ECCM running, spamming Dscan - and the probes were out within a few minutes. Warped out to safe spot, started touring the system (had about six safespots set up), but they must have got a reasonable hit before I left as shortly after I went back a hurricane turned up. Could have managed that but tengus etc appearing on Dscan so ran before I got blobbed.
Think I might follow Michael's suggestion and take out my force recon next time - I do very very well out of exploration but losing a T3 would still hurt. Could fit it for cloak, certainly, but a T3 is always going to be a target...
