The volume of decline is economy of scale related + the number of locked accounts and rage quitters. Or "its the economy stupid" + Things are getting much worse world wide.
Opinion of course.

Originally by: Tippia The last two Sundays have actually shown a tiiiiny amount of rebound, but the rest of the days are in the gutter (and even the Sundays have been much worse than before the patch) so the averages are not looking good.
We'll see but I think the trend is quite likely to become self-perpetuating. CCP lost at least 35,000 accounts last summer due to :18months: and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they've lost more than that already this summer.
The figures are of course skewed by idiots like me who have months of gametime on multiple accounts but aren't actually playing the game now. As their gametime expires then we'll see the true state of affairs.
Winter and all the FiS promises seems a very very long way away with nothing much other than barbieland iteration to look forward to. Modules broken left right and centre with no fix ETA, server up and down like a *****'s knickers, forums full of alt trolls.
Even taking an optimistic view of the winter expansion (ie it isn't the usual half-completed bugfest and DOES deal with spaceships) its going to be a VERY long six months for everyone - especially CCPs investors.

Edited by: Digital Messiah on 18/07/2011 07:17:14 They reported as many as 3-5 thousand bots being removed from the game recently. Perhaps that is why we are seeing a dip? Also you do realize that casual players, play casually, right? If we are in fact getting more softcore players. Than they are probably spending their time doing other stuff and only logging on when it is fitting for them. AKA not during the summer time lol.

"They" haven't reported anything of the sort. I was one of the people agitating for CCP to deal with bots so I'm well aware of what's been "reported" and "announced".
Also since the decline is clearly accelerating since Incarna none of your theories match up.
Like I said we'll see. The "its summer time" reason is bollox however - PCU figures are below summer 2010 and are in fact close to summer 2009 levels. Unless you're claiming that there is something "special" about summer 2011 of course. Are you?

There isn't anything special about any of this. http://youtu.be/ep2T6l1kv_M The current sovereignty changes up to June. Empires rise and fall, we are like Rome in this way. I don't think eve is dieing at all. I'm certain it will rebound back. And even if it doesn't, it has been fun.
P.S. EVE is dieing!

Please read the topic, a month on and the population is still dropping and is close to 7.5k lower than last year.

Just coming back to the game after a 5 year absence (started new char) and I can only see Eve as thriving, considering back when I played, the server population was 14k-18k at peak playtimes and was still enjoyable...
Maybe once you're all gone the game won't be self desctructing anymore and those of us left will enjoy ripping on a new generation of noobies :P
Also a downward trend does not = end of game.

You know what's funny?
For all the whining and complaining and "OMG THE EVE ARMAGEDDON IS HERE" threads in this forum, I have not had a single friend of mine leave this game. Everybody I know is still playing, and in all actuality they are playing MORE than they did before. Want to know why? New players have come to the game, and pvp has become more interesting lately. There's far more traffic in our little pocket of lowsec, and far more FW people to shoot than there was prior to Incarna. This game is better now, and neither myself nor anybody I know plans to leave this game. _______________________________________________ "If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack." - Kenshin Himura

Nice to see some perspective. I agree. I played for a bit a year or two ago, and I think it's gotten much better since then. More ships, better modules, more PVE stuff to do, etc.
