We wanted to update you on the EVE museum piece, the Visualizer: we're just about ready to go for the early part of next week and wanted to provide links so you can start pre-loading your favorite stuff. As these memories/propaganda posters/epic videos are posted they go into a moderation queue, and we'll pop them over into the live Visualizer site for launch early in the week. The site itself is eveisreal.net, a temporary space to just make this project happen. We will move it over into EVE domains at some point in the future.
All that said, this is a pretty unique thing that we hope you'll contribute too. We have the Aurum rewards for the whole community and the image and video contests as incentives, but we'd really hope the project itself is just cool enough on its own merits to unlock some gems of EVE player creations.
The links below will allow you to enter your favorite images or videos a bit ahead of the crowd:
Image upload http://beta.eveisreal.net/fragments/image-contest/upload video upload http://beta.eveisreal.net/fragments/video-contest/upload
FAQ Q. Moderated? Sounds dumb. A. We will of course have control over uploaded images and videos, thatÆs kinda normal. Here are two examples that can absolutely be in the Visualizer:
http://gucomics.com/comic/?cdate=20110707 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iu4iekX3WE
They are hilarious and weÆll take the jabs when they come and are good natured and ôEVEishö. We will moderate out personal attacks of DEVs, other players, just plain foulness, spamminess etc.
Q. Does my work have to original? A. If you want to win a prize from the contest yes, itÆs in the terms. If youÆre adding something you found and itÆs not your own work, you canÆt win, itÆs that simple.
Q. What about websites, etc? A. You could always Tweet a favorite site, with a short description weÆll be publishing specific tags weÆre gathering next week.
Q. How long is this going to last? A. Two answers there; until we unlock all the Aurum prizes for the community and then hopefully just about forever in a live non-contest state.

And now EVE needs a museum because its going to be extinct by the end of 2012. It was a good run guys, now you're doing too little, too late. Roll back Incarna, let the space-games continue.

Bit of a longshot, but at Evefest this year I got up on stage and told a bit of story about how I got into eve with a few mates, and how a house full of Eve players almost resulted in us being arrested for various stunts and pranks. The last one went a bit too far and we almost all got locked up for the night.
Does anyone at CCP have a high-def, or normal def video of me doing this? I know most if not all of the 'fest was recorded. I have a standard hand held camera recording from mates there, but it's not of fantastic quality.
Cheers gents :)

Sure, I'll post something. Just get in contact with me about compensation for providing advertising. I hope you're competitive for these advertising opportunities, as good advertising isn't cheap.

I'm with Khamal on this. Surprise! ...when your "game" caters to a social sub-set of sociopathic accountants, - and you make no effort whatsoever to either police them or get on their "good" side...this is what you get.
Summary: No, I am not interested in being your free advertising outlet. Also, "monocle."

Edited by: Xander Hunt on 15/07/2011 21:53:33 I'm really hard pressed for words about how CCP has really let me down. Getting the end users to advertise for potential end users... For free?... for Aurum??...
EVE used to be my "get away from the depression" game. Now its becoming depressing just thinking of how f'n lame this game is getting entirely because of the marketing and sales group. They have an entire advertising division, why ask about it from players?
Who ever gave them the leash to control things... well... I'd get banned for what I'm thinking, but then again, why go and *fill in whatever you'd like here* someone because of a game?
This used to be about markets, blowing stuff up, re-building, flying, communications, entertainment.... ... now? Money grab.
EDIT: Oh... By the way... The EVE community already shares their content on a small site called YouTube for the most part.

But youre "pre-release" web site does not work with iPhone (choosing a file doesn't work). Any way i dont have the stuff on my iPhone! I have the material in the form of URL links to our corps forums (public parts) and links to YouTube and Chribbas eve-files etc. Any chance you will accept linkys instead? Any chance your museum will work with modern tools like iPhones, androids and the like? If you cherish social medias, pls enable smartphone access
Edit: Noticed the video upload accepts youtube url's. But not the pic upload?

I have never seen so much unwarranted whining. Almost makes me embarrassed to be part of the Eve community when I read how ranting and childish some of these hydrocephalic, mouth-breathing, *******s are.
If you ask people for entertaining stories from their time playing Eve, they ***** you're leaning on them for advertising. If you give them the privilege to help the War on Lag via mass-testing on Singularity, they ***** they're unpaid beta-testers. Pathetic.
Is it really that hard to understand what CCP is doing? You all do realize they are FAR more transparent than most other developers out there, right? I'd like to continue to believe that Eve is a thinking man's (and woman's) game, but sometimes the forums don't bear that out. It's extremely surprising coming from a game with such a steep learning curve where you stand or fall on your own merit.

CCP, please don't be like other companies who rely upon crowd-sourcing for their advertisement, outreach, and market research. Do you all work for free at CCP, or do you get a paycheck? That's what I thought.
As an author, I'm a little leery of GIVING my work away without compensation. What's in it for me?
I haven't bothered to read the fine print on this, but if I did, I'm sure I'd find the clause that states that all material submitted becomes the property of CCP and can be used at their discretion for promotional purposes or whatever with no compensation to the submitter. Does that sound about right?
I already produce plenty of advertising for EVE and CCP on my blog, TYVM.
With the current climate among your customers right now, this wasn't the best time to make this move.

Not getting the hate for this... One of EVE's hallmarks is the effect a single player can have on the game. We saw it with the destruction of BoB and we've seen it before and since. Hell what other game lets you erect permanent structures? WoW?
So there's micro-transactions for fancy clothes, if you don't like it wear the default stuff like me. I might be tempted to get into the Noble Exchange if it had "Need For Speed"/"Gran Tourismo/every car game ever" style ship painting options. Just as long as "the red ones" DON'T actually go faster. Boom, faster than you can say "Corporate color scheme" we'd have this system take RIGHT off...
Side note... I really support that they used a 3rd currency for the micro-transactions so that this doesn't inflate/deflate ISK or PLEX values. It's like Disney Dollars. I don't care about them, I don't use them, and therefore they don't effect me.
All that said, I can't WAIT to see what the goons come up with...

Do you folks at CCP listen to what the community says at all?
There are hundreds of posts all over this site made by people who love the game, have loved the game for years and want to continue to do so. But we all love the game not because you can buy menal eye-patches or slightly different trousers but because it was a good game to play of an evening. So sort yourselves out and fix the damn code before asking us to dance like performing monkeys for your marketeering.
Frankly noone wants AUR. Nobody cares about your commando boots or your dress uniform top. You know why? The same reason Incarna has been such a @#*%-storm. It doesn't do anything.
So what if you can wander around your own private space? With your little avatar and do all the little things like access your ship fit with a different button, or look at your ship slowly rotating.. We've had those functions for years, only back then we called it "right-clicking".
Way I see it you folks at CCP are in serious danger of losing the very thiing its taken you almost a decade to build; a dedicated fan base. You need us a hell of a lot more than we need you. If EVE gets too sucky for us there are literaly HUNDEREDS of RPGS out there we can kill time on instead. Where would CCP be without us?
So stop messing around with these gimicks and flash-in-the-pan fixes for a problem that requires genuine work to sort out. Heres what you do; fire your entire marketing divison (or at least most of them), and use their salaries to pay for expanding the programming team ten fold (programmers will work for Pop-tarts and Cola, it has been proven). Set this new team on to fixing the bugs and generally annoying features, of which there are many (which by the way messes with immersion waaaay more than not having a sodding museum), and use the rest of the money to expand the servers and FIX THE LAG!
Stop wasting our money, or we'll stop giving it to you.
PS: Aaaand, I'll tell you how to market EVE. Make it a really damn good game. Then it'll market itself.

best part about eve right here is that 70% of the player base is a bunch of whinny bishes. You could go to India and see thousands of people starving in the streets and find less whining then in a npc corp channel or eve forum.

Agree! Its a bore to read the forums nowadays, all the whining from people is worse than anything CCP could do! It just makes me sad - really guys stop it! We have had enough of it!
Also, CCP: keep up your good work, dont listen to ALL the whiners they are not representing ALL your customers!
Also2: I used the upload video-URL website to upload links to pics and text. I hope it was not in vain?!

How is that relavent? We're not talking about world poverty. We're talking about a game that is meant to be community lead being ****d by advertising and flashy add on's.
And before someone goes there: I'm not whining. I'm trying to be constructive in my criticism. I love this game. I want to keep playing this game. I want to see this game made better. I want to be a part of that process. Simple as that. S'what they mean when they say "community lead". We got no place for your apathy here.

So then what's your problem with this contest again? It's about as close to being "part of the process" as you can get without coding something...

My problem is that its our subscription money being spent on things that aren't needed, wanted, warranted or indeed worth paying for.
As for being part of the process, if CCP want to pay me to code then I'll code. If CCP want my imput I'd be happy to work to make the game better.
That however does not stretch to giving them free advertising and then being expected to orgasm with glee when they say they'll give me access to a pair of slightly different trousers.
To see exactly how worthless AUR is jsut look at how much it is to buy those trousers on the open market. That's because you need to sacrifice several plex's just for a poxy eyepatch (that used to be in the character creation as standard).
