I came to eve with a group of guys from another space mmo but it didn't work out. For the last year I have been keeping my head low in .5 and up space trying to learn the basics on my own. I fell that strategy has peeked and I'm looking to find a group of good people. Im interested in all aspects of the game but mostly looking for a group that dosnt mind teaching semi noobs the ropes.
the recurring forum is full of corps recuriting but I have no idea how to tell scammers looking for victims from real corps with hundreds of good people.
How did you go about finding the right Corp without lossing your shirt? How can you tell which corps are established from the ones looking to milk you?

It can be hit or miss. I used to check the "Offices" at each station I'd happened to dock at and read the info for various corps. I'd also keep an eye on the general chat for recruiting messages. I was a member of several corps, but I ended up making my own just the other day instead. You are welcome to join. Up to you!

avoid alliances like TEST, Evoke, Tears, and pretty much all of nullsec you WILL be treated like a sheep, sheared for your isk and possessions, and slaughtered by a stab in the back for fun.

1. Ask what the corp is into, talk to members if possible in public chat channels. Give it a search on eve-o. If it comes up in C&P think thrice about joining. 2. Join one that has the same main interest as you. (Duh) Being the only PvPer in an indy corp is less than fun ... Unless you are into solo-PVP in which case you wouldn't need a corp anyway... 3. Don't part with is your hard earned for getting stuff to their home system. Don't contract all your stuff to anyone in the corp for hauling before you've been there a while. If it's in null - buy new stuff there ... 4. It's EVE - please engage brain. Use common sense. 5. And of course, I don't share the same view on 0.0 corps/alliances as a previous poster

Edited by: Santiago Fahahrri on 17/07/2011 13:21:52 Look for groups that don't actively recruit.
Corps that "take everyone" will take anyone, and you'll be both treated as a number and surrounded by idiots.
Corps that are selective, though harder to get into initially, will have real teams of competent and reliable pilots.
Edit: Oh, and I only partially agree with the last two posters about 0.0. Null sec is free space. There's plenty of fun to be had out here. The big alliances tend to suck, but once you learn to work around them - 0.0 is the place to be. :)

Yeah at this point I kinda think any clan that would take me without knowing me is probably not the best choice, but I've grown tired of solo and no one trust anyone here so I'm kinda screwed.
Are there any well known institution like corps that take new or semi new, people train them for months or Year and transition them into vets? |

Rasta many corps will do a trial with you if you join. With SG1 they did not know me from adam when I joined. I was on probation and during that time I got to know them and they got to know me. This will be common in many corps. There are many 0.0 corps that you can join and they will treat you very well. Its hard to get an unbais opinion about most of them though. From my experience of course the corps in Fatal Ascension are awsome and they treat their members well. I can not speak for other major/minor alliances though. Best if you want to live in null sec to ask them. Again its a matter of just doing a little research on your part. Once you find the right corp/alliance for you then you will have much more fun in this game. Happy hunting.

Its a very hard question that has no definate answear but i will try (as a recruiter) to give you some ideas based on what i have seen from recruits.
First off where do you find a corp? You can look at either the forums,or the ingame channel. Of the two i would go with the forums since most older or more serius corps avoid the recruitment channel. But if you go to the recruitment channel i would advise you to block people that constantly spam right away. Look for the people who seem to be willing to talk,or advertise on a moderate level. But there are other ways to find a good corp. Some end up finding their corp after getting blown up by them, others randomly meet in a belt, and some simply talk in local and you find your self enjoying their company.
Second. Think about recruiters like you would think about a telemarketer. They are looking to sell you a product and some will outright lie to get you to buy. Some will just stretch the truth a bit,or atleast word it in a way that makes it look more attractive. Remember..the recruiter can tell you a lot about what kind of people you can expect to find in the corp. If the recruiter is an ass,its a high chanse that most of the corp are.
Third. Now what to look for when you find a corp you are interested in. First off check their membercount. I have seen so many young players come to me and say "Well im leaving my first corp because there is never anyone online",and i look up their information and see that their member count is 10 players. From here i would also do a quick google on their corp and see if you can find either a kb,forum or other related posts (recruitment posts as an example). All of these can give you a general idea about how many active members they have, and can also give you a heads up on what reputation the corp has (scammers, carebears etc).
Forth. Ask for their public channel, and stay in there a while. Everything from a couple of hours to a couple of days depending on how patient you are. You can even stay in several but remember that it is frustrating for a recruiter to try and entertain someone who isent even reading so dont join so many that you loose control
Some general advice to end this... Be polite and honest, but remember its not like a real life job interview... Take your time with the recruiter, get to know them. If they dont have any interest in getting to know you its most likely a bad sign. Ask about inactives in the corp (some corps will avoid kicking inactive players to boost their membercount) and remember...the perfect corp is rarely the first one you join, but give each corp a fair chanse. This will make you look more...attractive for future recruiters.
I wish you the best of luck in your corp search and i hope you will find a home
