Edited by: Cartaris on 17/07/2011 03:16:42 I was out cruising around in my covert ops loki, when I happened upon an ice belt with 3 ships: 2 hulks, and an unpiloted Orca. Lucklily, I had warped to the belt cloaked, so I just cruised up to the orca, jumped in, and scooped the Loki to the ship array.
Now this guy is BEGGING me to give it back... telling me stories of how its actually his 14 year old son's, and how he bought a plex with his birthday money to buy it, and all sorts of things. He then tells me he has -400 million isk in his wallet, and was going to sell the Orca to help regain enough isk to continue plexing his account.
He continues to make sob stories of how his wife left him, and his son is crying now, and he only gets to see him on the weekend to play eve with him, etc etc.
What it sounds like to me is, he bought isk to fund his account(s) for less, and got caught.
He continues to convo me, and I continue to reject him (turned on auto reject to occupy him) What would you guys do in this situation? Block him and be done with it? |

I would attempt to suicide gank him in the Orca. Not sure if it has any high slots but success would be hilarious. --------------------------------------- www.eve-pirate.com original author |

if you actually had any clue as to what you were doing, you would have self-destructed the vessel in front of the victim.

Hehe. Actually, I started the self destruct, but then cancelled it when I was attempting a ransom. I figure if nothing else, I could sell the ship and make 400 mil or so

I just don't get why people Buy isk illegally. On average it costs way more then buying a plex and if you get caught (you WILL get caught) then you get negative isk.
Now selling is for IRL monies on the other hand,I can see that as a last resort cash out/quitting eve kind of thing. "Sweet Jesus, It's an Anti-AT field!"

Personally I give it back to him, at above market price in a personal contract. Just to **** him off, if he wants it he can buy it from you.

Just fly away with the Orca, and tell him to buy a damn PLEX for his kid. Or just leave the Orca and be done with it. I would say you should give it back, but the fact that he starts to whine actually makes me favor taking it. This is just a very harsh lesson in the reality of EVE. Take responsibility for you own failures, dammit!

I tried to be a good guy, and sell it back to him at a bit below market average (darn my sympathy) but he wouldn't do it. |

Edited by: Jak Silverheart on 17/07/2011 10:51:45 This is eve online, you do not give things back. This is a cut throat game where we will kill our neighbor for a 1 isk profit, or just because were bored and they looked funny. Keep the Orca or try to sell it for a profit is what I do.

So this guy is crying because he left his "kid's" orca, an orca he left un-attended? LMAO!
Take it and sell it. Make profit. That is what pirates do. Do not blow it up. Take some of the profits and suicide gank him with cheap ship instead.
Then collect more phat loots!

Hmmmm. Can you fit three large smarties on it? I was thinking three large smarties, cap boosters, and as much buffer as you can stuff on there. Then try and get him when he is vulerable.
Also make sure to insure it. --------------------------------------- www.eve-pirate.com original author |

There's a reason that stealing a ship in that manner doesn't get you flagged as a thief like can-flipping does.
Because when you leave your ship, it is no longer yours until you retake it.
Hard lesson to learn. I'd be sympathetic to the guys RL situation, if not for the fact that thousands of people will tell the exact same kind of story to get something for free.
He took a risk, and lost.
Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. Or in this guys case maybe it should be "don't fly what you can't afford to give away to the first pilot that sees it".
Sell it.
Better yet, reprocess it, and then give him the resulting minerals in a contract (for free). "here's your Orca. It's all there."

I've done a version of this... Roaming with an Orca scooping other peoples ships. Almost as fun, and sometimes more profitable.

Do what give you the most enjoyment. Personally, I'd probably block him and sell the Orca, but that's just me.
What I don't get is how, in the Eve universe, someone can just take an unoccupied ship like that. Yes, yes, I know it's always been that way and this guy should have known better. But really, we can password protect cans, but not ships? We can't lock the door when we leave? You would think the ship would go all 'intruder alert' and set up internal forcefields and automated weapon systems. My car has a little thing with a key on it. I press the button and the car doors lock. I think CCP should allow me to create the (sole) bpo for this in Eve. |
