Hi,
I am looking to make some extra isk on the side with an alt doing lvl 4 amarr navy missions in high sec. I started 1 day ago and already grinded up to lvl 3's, getting close to lvl 4's.
This charr is pure nyx pilot so has all drone skills to lvl 5 but no gunnery skills hence why I am going to use a Dominix.
Been 5 years since I did high sec missions so need a little help. Is it worth getting the navy issue domi and has anyone got a decent fit that wil tank all lvl 4's for amarr navy? Any other suggestions welcome.
I may train the gunnery skills later on this char if having T2 Railguns will make the missions go a bit quicker.
Thanks. |

I am certainly no expert, as I just started flying with a Domi. If you are gonna go with a sentry drone setup I think you can make it higher DPS with a regular vs Navy though. Mostly due to the lower calibration. The regular you can fit 2 sentry rigs but only one on the navy.

My skills are drone heavy too. So the Navy Dominix was something that I looked at closely for a long time before finally upgrading from the regular Dominix. The selling point for me what the extra medium slot, which I use for a 100mn afterburner II and a targeting range mod; it has 25m3 more drone capacity, which allows me to fit a full flight of Garde II's, Warden II's, Ogre II's and Hobgoblin II's (or whatever variation of drones you prefer); and the Navy Dominix has higher base armor hitpoints.
-I use two fed navy omnidirectional tracking links in the medium slots. -I use rat-specific hardeners in the lows. -I have 1x anti explosive pump; 1x sentry damage augmenter; 1x auxiliary nano pump in the rigs. I think the navy Dominix has less calibration points than the regular Dominix. -In the highs I have 3x Drone Link Augmentors, and 3x tractor beams (I like to loot as I go). -I splurged a little bit on an Officer large armor repper, but it's nice not having to use two reppers. -Lastly I fill the remaining lows and meds with cap rechargers and capacitor power relays.
Your skills may be better than mine, so you should play with EFT a bit to see what you could fit. But my advice is that it's worth it. My next big purchase will be a Rattlesnake when I have some adequate shield and missle skills.
This setup has worked really well for me thus far. It's a little slow against Angels

You deffintaly do not need the navy domi to get the missions done so long as your drones skills are that high. It only really makes it go faster but if you do not have/ do not want to spend the extra cash for the navy issue then you will still be fine with a tanked up domi.

usual domi will do fine but unless u wanna afk missions with dual tank, learning some basic gunnery is recommended. ---- Drones eat everything. Trust me. |

Edited by: Rip Minner on 20/07/2011 06:45:57 You are going to want to train gunnery skills at least to Large Hybird level 1 to fit a large rail to pull stuff in the missions to you to keep your drones safe.
You can use a target painter in a med slot for the same reason as pulling stuff.
Personaly I would just start off with a normal Domi till you feel like geting around to Gunnery skills. There are bounses to using a Navy Domi with out guns but with guns you can burn though missions alot faster then with out. I like using 6xCaldiar 350's or 5xTech 2 350's to keep range with drones. Ether works well but the 6xCaldiar rails do more dps and like you I have max drone skills sub Cap wise so I have 60km drone range with out a drone link augmentor.
Here is my set up current set up.
High's 5xCaldari Navy 425mm Railgun 1xDrone Link Augmentor
Med's 3xCap Rechargers 2xFederation Navy Tracking Computer default tracking script but keep others on hand for shooting long rang with antimatter. 1xTarget Painter tech 2
Low's 1xCapacitor Power Relay tech 2 1xFederation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer 4xMission armor hardners tech 2 1xLarge Complex ether Corpus X or Centus X if you change this then differnt rigs go one namely you drop the ACR to add another ANP and drop the 425's for 350's
Rig's 1xAuxiliary Nano Pump 1xAncillary Current Router 1xCapacitor Control Circuit
And the drone bay and armor hit points are a bounse too.
Edit: You mite note that I fly my Domi alot differnt then others. i.e. For missions I have found no good reason to use a drone mod other then a Link Augmentor. I use my mid slots to help my guns and drones get there dps on target thats what the target painter do's. My gardners have never needed help out side of a target painter to hit cruisers that are in there 30km range. And my other senterys have never needed more range or tracking to hit farther way target that are in the 87.5km targting range of my Domi in level 4 missions.
I can under stand wanting to be lazy and just argo every thing and droping your Gardners and leting them eat but even then thats not as fast as actively and agresivly piloting your Domi with guns and swaping drones out for range and targerts.
But thats just how I feel about it.
Is it a rock? Point a Lazer at it and profit. Is it a ship? Point a Lazer at it and profit. I dont realy see any differnces here. |

I approve of the new "Gallente Navy Dominix Gardening Service".
Funnily enough, a guy I played with a couple of years ago used to say he was going "Gardening" when he was AFK missioning in his domi alt... Not sure if he was referring to the drones or if he was batting for the other side by going uphill... True that. |

What are the bets that he thought 'minner' is how 'miner' is spelt.

The extra PG and armor will make a difference for you and the extra mid slot is nice. If you're going to be doing missions with this ship for a week or two it may not be worth it, but if you're going to be running for quite a while it will be worth it to upgrade to the navy issue. =============================== Two words: Internet Spaceships |

navy domi is nice because of its stats and extra mid, but some people scoff at the missing 50 calibration which doesn't let you fit 2 sentry damage augmentors.
if you've got the isk, why not get a rattlesnake? idiot proof afk tank that tanks fullstage aggro from more or less every stage in the game as long as you fit specific hardeners and considering your damage only comes from drones, it has the exact same dps output as the navy domi.
alternatives: ishtar and gila...both have a massive dronebay (with maxed skills the same as the domi iirc) can field a great tank, are pretty cheap and far more convenient for getting around than a BS

I have 0.0 alts that can fly ishtar's, nightmare's, rattlesnake's etc. The alt im missioning with is a pure trained nyx char so no skills other that used for nyx are trained. I want o try and keep it that way if I ever choose to sell the character or buy a nyx once they nerf them. SuperCap pilot wih extra skills not used is a waste of skills.
Liking the replys guys thanks for the help. Even more of a newb question where can I find out what harderners to use for each mission? Is there anyway I can fit for all missions so I dont have to change modules all the time?
Thanks.

Currently I have a Sentry Dominix and a Pure tank Dominix.
I have not run into any mission where I can't do it with my Sentry Dominix. The fitting is:
5x 350mm railgun II using Iridium/Antimatter 1x Drone link Augment
2 or 3x Cap recharge II 2x Omnidirectional Sentry thing
2x Cap Relay II 1x LAR II 4x Rat specific hardener II
5x Warden Sentry II 4x Ogre II 5x Hobgoblin II 5x Garde II
2x Sentry Drone Augment rigs
Warp in, use Garde II to take out anything within 50km, frigates > Cruisers > BS. Frigates pop if they are 10km or more from me, the Garde II's tracking is fast enough.
Anything further than 50km, I use Warden II's. I hardly use the Ogres anymore. Hobgoblin for anything fast like Spider drones or <10km frigates.
Keep in mind, if I accidently screw up the trigger spawns and I get a crapload of incoming dps, then I use my second Dominix which has:
Ogre II Hobgoblin II Hammerhead II
2x LAR II
Nano Rig Cap Rig Repair Rig
Enough cap relay/recharge to make it cap stable. Tank the entire room (works with the RECON mission, 900-1000 dps), release the Ogre II's, go make a coffee and alt-tab. Doesn't happen at all nowadays. I've read up on the missions so I don't get into ths situation.
