1 month is to soon for a mmo, i would wait 3-6 month for the inital price to come down and hopefully they will have crushed most initial bugs

Normally I agree. With a few exceptions here and there. BF3 say.
Not really seeing the allure of the new starwars game. To me whats been previewed on it is. Same old song and dance now with voice acting, and more single player type experience.
I know there are also so many people that complain about WOW...especially in the eve community. This is a essentially a sci fi clone. I dont see how people can knock wow then turn around and hype this up (not a rant directed at the OP just an observation in general). Is this just because you can look like boba fett?

Why would I pre-order World of Warcraft when it's been out for years already?

Have you not seen the gameplay review where you go round an empty featureless weatherless immersion-free landscape killing sand people and conjuring clumsy speedbikes (speed as in jogging pace) from thin-air? Why? Why even bother?

+1 for collectors edition. Don't pre-order through gamestop online, as I haven't gotten my redeem code. On the phone now to beg for my code, or ill cancel with them and go through amazon.

No.
I've not been impressed at all by what I've seen so far. Bioware might make good single player games and somewhat decent worlds for them, but a WoW clone is something I'm not interested in. A friend of mine is on the beta, he's not impressed with the game either now he's had hands on experience.
I also think it is a shame that they've focused on Jedi vs Sith. Galaxies was much better (early on) by focusing around the SW IP as a whole and the struggle between the Empire and the Rebellion, and the various roles in and around them, rather than being a Force user fest. --------------------------------- Go Web! Looks fairly average to mediocre on the gameplay reviews/videos and blogs so no. Also the pricing is WTF high, ú45 for the box + monthly sub for a game that is essentially a weak version of mass effect with random chance one of you gets to reply to the NPC with your uber audio reply conversation options and the rails space shooter bits. The hero engine doesnt seem to do anything justice, the graphics and art style look pretty poor to me.
Of course once the fanbois have crammed through the door and we get some actual decent balanced reviews, if they say it is the best thing since sliced bread, then maybe I will give it a go once they drop the cover charge but everything I have seen so far of the gameplay is decidedly meh. Seems like bioware have a bit of a sine wave when it comes to their projects lately in terms of success and failure. I got burnt by DA2 and SW:TOR does not seem to reveal anything that makes it attractive as a game to anyone but star wars nerds who can fap with their light sabres. ME3 looks very promising so it depends what studio does the game I guess.

I personally love the movies and a lot of the lore, but have not seen a fun to play Star Wars game since the cutting edge "Return of the Jedi" arcade game. And even that wasn't better than Dragons Lair (competition of the time).
Last game I pre-ordered was Guild Wars, and have no regrets, but wont be playing pt II. I wont buy another game as long as EvE servers are up, and not totally screwed up.

For the ridiculous amount of money they are charging, I'd expect a significant in game advantage over players paying for just the basic version to justify giving so much cash up front.
Obviously the anti micro mob will screech with anger but it's about time those who stump up to support these games get a bit more reward back over the free loaders and pikey's who expect the same advantages or 'fairness' yet contribute nothing to development costs or sustainability.

Wow. Using "limited quantities" (of a digital download) and making folks queue up for early game access as a high pressure pre-order sales tactic...

I also disagree with you there Akita. There are games I pre-order because of the game reputation and/or company. Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 (both are day one/pre-purchase as soon as those hit steam ... if they reach to steam) are great series and didn't let me down yet. Star Craft II, great game from a great company.
I'm torn between Batman Arkham City retail or digital copy for Collector Editions (retail or digital). I'll wait and see what Digital Collector Edition will offer :O Again, another great game that probably won't let me down.
I guess you know your PC stuff, but ain't much of a gamer huh? :)
ANYWAY back to SWTOR topic ... Nope, don't plan on pre-ordering or even touch it. It is said to be WoW in Space. Irony a bit here, remember Artanis' quote from SC 1? "This is not Warcraft in Space".
Plus I hate the idea of the "Roller Coaster" in space combat thing. Saw it myself. Ever since, I stay far away from it. Didn't think it'd be like XvT space battles, but I was hoping for it.

Nah, just got older
Once upon a time, when I used to be more deficient in the patience department, I would have probably pre-ordered a lot of things, and played them the split second they became available. Nowadays ? Heh, I can have a relatively new game installed on the HDD, and not play it much yet (more than to see it actually works, that is) because I'm busy with other (usually older) games or other things altogether.
Besides, it helps that most new games are not the "genres" that I like, or go mixed-genre with more and more of the types I don't like thrown in (see Mass Effect). ME3 would probably be one of the few games that would get played sooner rather than later, and even that one will probably wait a while. I'd rather play yet another round of Master of Orion 2 or Alpha Centauri than try out a brand new 4X game for instance - statistically speaking, I'm far more likely to be satisfied by the old ones rather than the new one. If that disqualifies me as "a gamer"... well... so be it _
