Edited by: Milli Amatin on 21/07/2011 20:05:15 I saw a news article that SOE game everquest2 has new content being developed so that you can design your own dungeon, dungeon finder to queue to it and rate different dungeons.
I hate SOE as probably most other people here do but you cannot deny that is one hell of a concept.
My advice to CCP, get your heads out of $1000 jeans and add content for your paying customers. Stop wasting precious dev time on micro transaction crap and using us to test your game engines for dust/ wod.
Add some exciting content for us or soon even SOE will be considered better than CCP

No!
Instead give us tools that we can add our own content!
When was the last time we got tools like this?
Hell, CCP just wasted a huge opportunity with the stupid NeX implementation. They should have made the stuff all player made with only BPCs sold for AUR.
Incursions are just a huge fat themepark.
Tools for the players to create shape their own universe? To manifest their own dreams?
No, I haven't seen anything like that, it is not even on the drawing board. And I doubt that the "0.0 revamp" for winter will give us any good tools either. It will be again just some extended themepark. Prove me wrong! |

Well said sis (or bro).
That is exactly what they are doing. Providing the community set of tools to design own dungeons and play dungeonmaster.
How cool would it be if we could design our own incursions. Instead we get NEX $1000 jeans and a room to walk.

Well-said. Players should get the tools to create their own custom fleet setups, have others take the place of encounters, even have commanders dictate when should different ships warp in and what to shoot at. Other people could then engage these fleets and try to eliminate them.
And why constrain ourselves to a single enclosed mission area, give people the freedom to design these encounters so that they can warp between celestials and jump through gates.
More care should be given to courier missions as well: why not let people set up missions for others to move some stuff from one location to another, for a nice reward? To prevent just running away with the goods, an initial payment could be required, just as is with courier missions. Although this could be a bit too difficult to implement...
TBH, I don't see why this couldn't go all the way to the basic universe setup: players should be able to create their own factions, estabilish leaders and government, forge alliances and declare wars between those factions. We should be able to build our own space stations and jump gates - and turn previously vacant space into a living empire.
This could open up some interesting opportunities, such as people from another faction invading and blowing up the structures. The defenders could then hire other players to defend, set up multiple waves of different ships and encounters for the attacker to go through before they can complete their objective.
Wouldn't that be awesome. But we can only dream... ---

How do they handle the problem of loot or xp abuse? That is, dungeons deliberately designed to be super easy for players to acquire loot or xp?

The CoH mission builder is used to grind rigged maps for easy experience and pretty much nothing else. Reminds me of the Starcraft level editor back in the day - thousands of nifty levels, but the vast majority of players stuck with the infinite resource maps.
Users have different goals than developers. It shows.

Sure some use the MA to grind up certain maps just like on PI outside of the MA in the real game.
That has nothing to do with the "other" people using it to build fantastic new stories, new missions and new enemies to fight against or to share with other like minded people.

There's always going to be 99% dross with user-made content, but so long as there's a good filtering system and it's easy to find the gems, it's well worth it, and allows the devs to improve the game in other ways than just adding content. *****

I support any group owning sovereign space, being able to 'hire' NPC agents to handle tasks associated with the three mission categories: combat, mining, and hauling. Place them in your station, and viola ... instant missions in nulsec.
As far as 'creating' said game items, though ... might have to be restricted to test server. If ccp likes it, they make it live. It's all about profit payouts and infinitely grindable cash. Too many possible exploits.

I would love to be able to make content for some live events. I'm not sure how well this idea would go down with the people who play this game, maybe an Aurum cost to filter out the less dedicated :P :P

To be quite honest, running your own live event is not only possible, but extremely feasible. Getting participation, on the other hand, is a different matter.
I'm interested in the idea of creating an rp event team, myself. Something which is, on paper, fairly easy to accomplish. And there are plenty of players out there who would willing provide content.
Hasn't CVA been doing this for years?

While I'd really like to see a feature like this I also think it would be abused as well. For example a bot mission runner can now set up there own missions ... hmm.
However it was set up it would have to be in a way that CCP didn't have to micromanage it to stop exploiters.

Star Trek Online already has user-generated content.
You still don't see people flocking to that game.

The point I was trying to make is 'stop shoving content that we don't want down our throats and make us pay for it...'
Use our paid dollars to provide us with some innovative content like this.

Edited by: Humongus Bauls on 22/07/2011 13:07:40 I liked EQ2. Heck I still have a free 45 days to use on it, I received for the Sony hack debacle. I need to log in and get that going before August 7 and let the kids beat on it. lol
Dungeon designers are a GREAT idea for games like this. My kids would love this.
Far as EvE goes I dunno. I am sort against bringing anything "instanced" into EvE.

Lack of new solo content was what I cited as the reason for unsubbing my 2 accounts.
I loved 0.0 pvp and pve, Incursions were fun, but my RL lifestyle doesn't afford countless hours of camping or tracking down some lost Cosmos mission I haven't yet completed in my many years of play. I can easily grind all 4 epics and make billions in no time but the repetition gets boring.
Was really hoping incursions was going to be the dynamic content you could solo as well..
Anyway you can't have my stuffs as I'll likely come back again eventually..

I played a FPS back in the day that had a random map generator. A random 'dungeon' generator for eve complexes would be outta sight. Imagine if mag and radar sites were dynamic instead...
You might actually have to replace you solobbqwtfpwnmobile tengu... . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

Eve is exactly what you are asking for, at least when players interact with players. We have Sov, cynos, bridges, alliances, corps, standings we can set, etc. The bulk of what makes Eve a living, breathing universe is player content. It is a sandbox game.
The OP wants to extend something like that into PvE. What you will get with that is farms and crap, with 1 in 10,000 being something cool. Why waste dev time on making fake sandcastles, or allowing players to make fake sandcastles, when you could instead give better tools to the real castle builders in the form of PvP content?
How about adding WHs that connect to 4 or 5 K-space systems at once, and that have roving sleeper fleets that destroy POSes after a day? Every day let Concord produce a list of systems these super WH's attach to as a travel advisory. Put some rare/unique resources in them. Instant battlefield that changes every day.
Or maybe a new asteroid belt type that is an intrusion of another dimension or some such. For a 200km radius you can warp in to anything but cannot reactivate your warp or jump drives. You have to slowboat out. WH rules apply once you are in it with no local, -1.0 sec, etc. and targeting, Dscan, etc cannot penetrate the boundary in either direction. Have it last a couple of days and then fade out and reappear in another system. Give it rare/unique items if it is in low or nulsec, and a good amount of midrange ore for hisec, with a chance of ABC spawn. I'm sure there are a few more tweaks needed, but it is a roving arena that you have to commit to to use.
There are many things they can do with the game, but trying to cater to PvE in a PvP sandbox is not really one that leads anywhere.

I like where this is going. In case any of you all had a chance in the late 90's with Ultima Online; OSI implemented something called the seer program. Seers had the ability to create rewards and events on the fly by being able spawn certain entities in the game.
I was a part of the program, and always received great feed back after each event (sewers are being overrun with aligators, get down there and wipe them out). Of course, the vetting process to become a seer consisted of an age requirement and interview. None the less, made dynamic content ubiquitous throughout the game world which was good for both PVE and PVP type players.
