Hopefully people will read this thread before they subscribe. The Mac client is not playable. Missing tectures everywhere and 5 FPS on a MacBook Pro in CQ (Captains Quarters). CCP never fixes anything. They do not care.
Save your money.

No problem with CQ here. It's turned off.

The most recent patch fixed a load of issues?
Per the patch notes: "Resolved a rendering issue for turret icons, including turret blueprints, which would cause them to not render or render as black squares. Symptoms included info windows, market UI, and the container UI scrollbar not working for these items. Turret 3d assets were in no way affected."
So...turrent icons? Huge load of issues fixed.
Reporting issues helps to some extent, but there is still a lot wrong with the Mac client. Look at all of the recent posts concerning crashes and other issues. Incarna has been out for a few weeks; it shouldn't be this bad for so many users still.

@Ahnkar sure, one item can be considered a load. I just don't personally think that turret icons are THAT significant given the scope of Mac problems that are out there right now. I understand industrialists were pretty livid about it (and understandably), but I think there are bigger issues right now.

They should scan your IQ before allowing you onto the Mac forum. Is your life really so sad that you have nothing better to do than troll the forum spouting the Microsoft line?

The patch did fix a lot issues for a lot of people. People could not build, buy any turrets, turret bpo or UI scrollbar not working. ThatÆs a lot of problems fixed in just a few weeks. As it affected all users its more important that whatÆs affecting a few people. It may not of fixed your issues but when ever has everything been fixed in one go?
Microsoft and Mac OS have been fixing things for years. Some how they have not fixed all the issues in the first week. Why, because some issues are bloody hard to find or fix.
The more people reporting giving accurate information bumps things up their list. If you donÆt like CCP not fixing whatever issues your having get more people to do tests and report. If everything is reported to CCP they will fix it but if no one knows about the issue. Its not getting fixed. You never know someone may have a work around.
Now grow some balls post your problem with steps to reproduce it. If you canÆt I call troll.

I agree, sub $400 pc's can do lots of stuff, but all of it badly, and all of it in a constant state of update. Also a sub $400 PC can become part of a bot net, or transmit your credit card info and online banking passwords to some kid in Estonia, or screw you life over in any one of a dozen other ways...

How do you turn the CQ off? I consider it the worst addition to any game I've ever played. A complete inane effort. It's laggy for me. The game itself does freeze every few minutes for a few seconds. Not only the game freezes but it freezes my computer for a few seconds. Didn't have this problem at al pre-incarna

If only I was blessed with hindsight.
I too like so many Mac users am just about fed up of not being able to play Eve like I used to pre-Incarna.
I have probably spent about 30 minutes in space in the past 2 weeks with the game freezing up and then crashing, in fact skilling is about all I can do right now!
I can not believe that I am actually stupid enough to be paying nigh on ú30 a month (for 2 accounts) so that I can update my skills and then log!
I too have had the old "raise a bug report" response from CCP and frankly my response to that is NO!
Why no, well because I don't see why I should have to effectively do CCPs Beta Testing for Incarna! Did CCP do ANY testing on Mac before they decided to release Incarna? Frankly I would surprised if they had!
CCP this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and this is not the way to treat your fee paying customers (I say that as if they will actually read this post and actually take it seriously).
For me, I am giving CCP 2 weeks to fix Eve for Mac or else I am cancelling my 2 subs as I am fed up of paying out hard earned cash for zero product/service.
And if CCP don't get things sorted soon then I hope other Mac users walk away from the game too as frankly CCP do not deserve our support of this game in it's current state.
I come home from the stresses and strains of work to relax and part of that relaxation is gaming.... EVE for Mac is NOT a relaxing experience now and I am not prepared to keep something in my world that causes me this much stress, particularly when I am PAYING FOR IT!
I need to sit in a dark room for a bit now and calm down and forget about Eve for a little while.

0 issues post-Incarna, which is less than before. CQ also runs ok on my late 2008 MBP, but I have no use (who has actually?) for the whole thing so I turned it off.

Having thought about it over the past 24 hours (nearly) I have come to the decision that I've had enough. I have just cancelled my 2 accounts. A very sad day for me, but I am not prepared to continue to shell out my money in the hopes that CCP might finally get around to putting things right for Mac users.
Goodbye all, fly safe and don't stand for anymore sh*t from CCP if you're a Mac user, remember, you are paying for this poor service!

Buy Parallels, get windows , play EVE on exposT screen no. whatever and be happy..
Seriously, it's not worth losing hair over CCP not making an effort to fix the mac client - it won't happen and everyone that has played this game for a long time should know that by now.
The above is a rather simple solution to run 10 clients again on a mac without issues.

Personally Macs are better on a lot of things when against a PC but if you want to play games Macs are behind but its not hardware or software. Its because most of the developers are just not up to the challenge of more that one OS for development.
A good example of a game done correctly is left for dead 2. This if nothing shows it can be done and done well when using OpenGL.
It boils down game developers who want to sell Mac games should start using a compilers that can do both DX11 and OpenGL not using cheap workarounds. Look at unity or the fact a Mac version of UDK is in the works to see that is can be done on a mid to high end game engines.
What we have is some sort of legend that Macs can't play games when the truth of the matter there are hardly any good developers. Most are using tricks to get the game to work on the cheap and in CCP case its bitten them on the ass royally.

I have to say Eve runs acceptable on my 27'' iMac 2011 i7...
However I switched CQ off, as it is useless. (Why would I want to walk alone in my quarters? I rather have a spinning ship...)
I run 2-3 clients all the time and have zippo problems and near to no crashes. In fact Eve crashes on my HP laptop more often.
On the other hand Eve lacks in grafix performance far behind other Mac games that are done right. Not that I notice, since the iMac is so powerful, but if I turn up the FPS monitor and only get 30 FPS of mediocre grafix, where in other games (Portals 2, Battlefield, TF, ...) I get extremely good grafix and effects with 70-100 FPS.
However the same holds true on Windows. Eve even on a Windows machine (my friends gaming rig, with i7, 16 GB RAM and 6970 2Gig and SSD) Eve offers far worse results than current PC highend games. So as it looks, grafix optimization of Eve is not good across the board, independent of OS. So when you add the layer of Cider inbetween I have to say that the guys of Transgaming are doing an incredible job with Eve, as it runs not really much worse than on windows.
Only thing I cannot understand is, why Transgaming cannot offer better screen resolutions in Windowed Mode, having to use a 3rd party tool for this really is my worst complaint. Also grafix FPS went down considerably with the last patch. -------------

I have a 13" MBP (one of the older ones; I think this was a Summer 2010 revision) and the game itself runs absolutely fine. I have to crank the resolution down a bit but doing so sees a substantial increase in performance. However, after only a few seconds of play the hardware becomes approximately as hot as the centre of the Sun. I kid thee not.
Ergo, I play on my i7 Windows 7 machine.
Bon, as the French would say.

I can understand the sentiment, I know that graphically I only had the turret icon problem. I won't go down the road of the stuff I didn't get done because of that.
Instead, I'll say I don't trust the Mac client with my Aeon. I've petitioned other minor losses... jump through and complete client stall out until you finally arrive pod-dead. Then the logs don't show anything and that's that. The Mac client and the transgaming layer have issues... and on top of that CCP seems to have forgotten how to launch major patches. The delivery of the first expansion download was rotten... just terrible, like from two years ago terrible.
Having the luxury of playing this on a good PC at work, I can say, they are two different client experiences. The Mac client is the red headed step child of Eve (seeing as they officially killed the Linux version). Let's at least agree that the Mac client is very, very far from perfect and unplayable in some circumstances. |

In game hit ESC first. That should do the trick.
--- I don't have it turned off because it lags or something, well only a bit. But main reason is that it is immersion breaking, no good at all game play wise since it offers no special functionality at all, while it even took away functionality from the old hangar view. The only thing you can do with your, quite crappy looking avatar is walk, and sit on one specific place. You can't jump up nor crouch, move your arms/ hands, lay down on the bed. It is nothing short but a tech demo.
Just imagine, you dock in a Gallente station, you suddenly appear out of your pod, pod goo has been magically brushed off, you even somehow wear cloths and you think, 'well all nice and well but all I want to do is change my ship', and you get a warning message that you have to wait because your ship is still docking. And why am I looking at a rust and sticky tape quarter in a Gallente station to begin with, which to make things even worse looks the same for every single character in game, with no option whatsoever to customize it to make it a bit yours? The least thing CCP could have done was get the 4 faction quarters ready before launching this piece-o-fluff in space.
If only they had not divided themselves over 3! games. Just 2 would had been stretching their resources to the limited already. But hey, greed is good and bad management = bad management, which as always originates from the top.
