So apart from tinkering around with PI so as to understand the basics I haven't actually run a profit or done anything complicated but what I would like to do is run a factory world and as such i'm after info on the most efficient setup or whatever else is required.
Basically what I want to do is pour a billion isk or so worth of P1 stuff in one end and extract value-added goodness out the other. |

it's not exactly rocket science...1-2 launchpads (not silos, you'll be limited on grid, not cpu) per material and as many factories as you can squeeze in, keeping the links as short as possible of course
vastly more important is picking a (or rather, the most) profitable step in the PI chain, keeping taxes in mind and adapting to the market. there's a spreadsheet floating around on googledocs that covers about everything you could desire |

For what it is worth, here's what my factory planets look like (level 4 upgrade): * 21 * (P1 + P1 -> P2) factory planet * 12 * (P1 + P1 -> P2) + 6 * (P2 + P2 ->P3) factory planet The idea was to keep links minimal as much as possible, and avoid import / exporting as much as possible.
The P3 planet has an extra P2 processor on it that produces excess P2 used to kick-start (fill) the P3 processors, as they will never fill otherwise and skip cycles as a result. Once the P3 processors are full, the extra P2 processor isn't needed anymore.
The P3 spaceports: * Left: P1 (imported), P2 (output), P3 (output) * Middle: P2 (imported), P3 (output) * Right: P1 (imported), P2 (output), P3 (output)
Small radius Barren planets make for ideal factory planets. |

If you're going to get into factory world production you need to get or make a spreadsheet ASAP as you'll need it to watch the market and ensure that your scheme remains profitable. Not every scheme is profitable and some are unstable at best in respect to their market demand.
Your planetary infrastructure design will also depend on how much time you want to devote to each day. Obviously the more time you have the more profit you can generate. Sit down with a calculator and paper and sort out the combinations you can possibly get and determine what's best for you. |
