Our maximum sentence is technically 21 years, but this guy will be declared criminally insane and kept in jail for the rest of his life.

lmao... glad I'm not the only one who's unimpressed by this kind of bandwagon.
Yes the victims' families are unlikely to read this. However maybe we players can use the threads to discuss how best to be helpful... I can't think of much myself, beyond "I'm sorry for your loss", it's kind of frustrating.
Would a PLEX drive be called for in this case? They aren't a poor country, tho perhaps some families would benefit from grief counseling or other therapy. Is there a charity that offers this?
Nice tought, but such things is apart of our social/medical benefits for being a norwegian citizen. it is |

You can be kept in "Forvaring" same as not be eligible for parole if your a danger to society/yourself.. This guy will probably held in a psychiatrical hospital in a unit for "criminally insane" aka secured and on lock down for the rest of his life. We have those to, even tho most people are ignorant of it.

Early witness reports told of an body with an exit hole the size of a dish and now it's confirmed, dumdum bullets were used.
I'm surprised anyone shot survived.

That's good to hear. I've seen pictures of the inside of one of the major prisons in Norway, though. The cells looked like dorm rooms. I don't imagine he'll be any worse off in the mental hospital. Unfortunately it seems like he's in for a fairly cushy stay.

Frankly, this guy needs to serve 21 years per person he killed. Prosecution should at very minimum go for 42, 21 for each incident.
I'd much prefer a death sentence, but you take what you can get. If there were any reason to have a death penalty on the books, it would be for cases like this.
and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Edited by: Wendat Huron on 25/07/2011 12:45:52 He will get 21 years and then be held in storage for the rest of his life, no board will dare parole him.
On top of that he will probably have to serve it all in solitary confinement and will try to off himself repeatedly as the years drag on.

I still know it's way to much, but earlier today, the total number on killed was taken down to 68 killed in total on Ut°ya and 8 killed in Oslo to the car bomb.
This is officially told by the police in Norway.

I know the guy who did it said something to the effect of "It had to be done or something worse would happen" I'm wondering if he was just crazy or mabe high out of his mind on something? |

With this logic he refers to killing enough people to shock Norway into a different course that won't lead to the extinction of the norweigan people as we know them.
It's basic math, immigrants tend to have many babies, the natives not so many, in time the immigrated offspring will overtake the native population and if not assimilated it is the end of that nation as we know it.
That being said, everything changes and nations and people have come and gone through history.
Europe being muslim in 100 years is no different and unlikely than the US being hispanic, does that mean you can or should fight it or just get on with your life and let the chips fall where they may? |

kvalmt..
And yearh, the guy proberbly believes he'll be out in 25-30 years and proberbly even invested his thoughts in spending the later of his life under palmtrees in the east.. but.. as norway and the rest of scandinavia are "soft on crime" theres a fine line between understanding the crisis any being can reach, or get born into, and then the pure exploitaion of those graces - an exploitation our lone gunman here has ****d to pulp and shat on after.
the result of it is, as one says, that he'll be kept in the most secure prisons, for the mentally diverted, a place, litterally without laws, or, as it is, lifted from them and send to the care of doctors, doctors who.. being doctors, have a very casual relation to human life and the subjective experiences of their specimens, or patients, as they're called in popular tounges.
Basicly the guy would be lucky to go to a normal prison and face the beatings and the casual ass**** there - what he'll see in the wards are so intensely horrific that they 'll only let him out once his completely broken or dead.
D [...] and the wolf was cursed, so the more it ate, the hungrier it went..

He'll be out in 15 to 21 years.
This is not true, My mum lives in the UK and the stuff on the news there and regarding our laws is absolute hogwash I assume the US coverage is much the same.
people can rest assured he will never leave jail we have something called "bevaring" roughly translated it means holding.
It's a law used on anyone deemed a continuing danger to society. And it basically allows lifetime imprisoment (until death) Every 5 years he will be re-evaluated to see if he is still a danger to society.
We might be a very liberal country, but there is no doubt in anyones mind this man will ever see the light of day again. It would be political suicide for any party ever to allow it.
Wrote this and then saw people after that reply had answered already.
The prison community was interviewed and the general concencus is if he is ever allowed in with regular prisoners he is a dead man, in other words he will be staying in solitary for his remaining days. Also no norwegian paper will ever print his story the general feeling is he lost his right to a having a voice
lifetime solitary - I couldn't think of a better punishment for a narcisistic sadist if i tried.
on a lighter note Hells Angels and MC Rabies. two motorcycle gangs who have been at war in norway for years (with several killings over the years) declared seize fire and drove out to Ut°ya together in a show of respect for the dead.
Stuff like that makes me gooey inside. Horrible circumstances but people are coming together to make somthing positive out of it anyway. I'm quite proud of how Norway is dealing with this in the end.
PS.
