Title says it all. Came back to eve with incarna, (2003 player ), after taking a break for 8 months,
There is no fun in walking around in a tiny room.
After all the hoopla, what a letdown.
Might come back again, but that depends on you, CCP. You need to fix your game first.
Cheers

I came back to Eve for this as well and I'm not sure what it's all about either. I thought incarna was the walking in stations add on. Real let down.

The CQ part of incarna is just a first step. after this they will, i hope, roll out the rest of walking in stations. What should you have tought when they rolled out the holle packege with bugs and crashes?

If "the room" truly is that distressing, that... um... unimmersive? Try living in a wormhole for awhile. The only time I have to see an Incarna room is when transporting things in/out of the hole, which isn't really all that often. Incarna has ultimately had minimal effect on my play... unless you're looking for an excuse to quit it's hardly a reason to actually quit.

"Hope" being the key word...just like when CCP, finished implementing Flash into the IGB, finished fixing FW and low sec, completed years old bug fixes, fixed 0.0...

Yup, why roll out something that is nothing? They should've created something that was useful (at least player interaction in stations) to make it, well you know, not useless.
Then, the potential player owned stores, corporation offices, etc, that would be future releases.
As it is right now it's just a mockery. To players as much as to the guys actually developing.. nothing. -

Ermmm...WiS was announced in 2006...what you are seeing with CQ is the culmination of 5 years work. At this rate, don't expect the door to open for another 5 years at least.

That would be incorrect.
WiS, in the form that was announced at that time, did not work for general game play.
It went through a couple of different iterations after that, most of which ended up scrapped.
Then with Incarna, they got the basic framework where they wanted it... in a way that would be flexible enough to allow them to add the various types of game play they knew they would eventually incorporate.
So while the "concept" has been around for a while, the actual code we are seeing has not. ===== The world will not end in 2012, however there will be a serious nerf to Planetary Interaction. |

I, for one, am pleased that CCP chose to introduce walking in stations so gradually. Just walking around by yourself in the captains quarters has been a hardware destroying experience for some and a computing resource hog for all. With this as a baseline, you can see how the game would have come to a sudden stop if CCP had just dumped everyone together in a station environment to interact with each other.
While I am no fan of walking in stations, there are those who are and just because they like the idea of walking around in stations does not mean they arenÆt going to kick keester when theyÆre out in space nor does it mean I have to engage in the activity myself. Incarna is intended to be an addition to the variety of EVE, not a replacement for current content. The current course of slow baby steps introduction is the responsible way to approach this new addition. When the code is spaghetti, you go slow or die.
That said, if CCP wants to survive, it is going to have to take on the relatively boring task of fixing current content. The CSMÆs recent list for crowd sourcing contains a ton of very good ideas drawn from previous CSMÆs and other sources. CCP would do extremely well for themselves, us and new players by pushing resources into that list.

I just started playing a bit over a month ago, I thought yea this is cool, new expansion as I start. Log in and realize that this is just an advertisement for their new clothing store. The vibe I got from this is that this was an expansion for them not the player, they let you walk around to try on their clothes and not for some practical purpose. It's to bad as this game could use lot's of polishing in some core areas, starting with many descriptions on items that a new player just scratches their head at.

I came back just in time to watch "As the world turns" on EVE Forums. It drove me to start posting and supporting CCP. And I pay monthly on purpose so they get the most out of my credit card. Who knows, once my credit card is payed off, what I'll do with the NEX store. I hope EVE is online until my dying breath. The only game that lets me do what ever I want. And being Jack of All Trades, Master of NONE. It's perfect. Well not "I wipe my ass with 3 squares of toilet paper" perfect, but close enough. When I press a button, it does what the button says. Good enough for me, for being one of the most intricate games on the planet.
I think in due time, every wish will be granted. I keep playing and paying, because I know that one day when their grand ideas start to subside a bit, there will be ample room to fix the old ideas to spec. I have faith. Why rush an influx of subs when not ready for it. Take out the trash first, then fix the garbage can, then put a new bag in, then start filling it again. EVE. The most ambitious project on earth. |

Now that's the spirit! This is the kind of new player Eve needs. Hats off to you sir.
I love your sig "EVE. The most ambitious project on earth", though it's a bit...umm...silly? I would think that particular honor goes to the Large Hadron Collider, or something. But Eve IS massively impressive, don't get me wrong. ______________________ ~Gnosis~ |
