There is a huge difference between Respec and Purchasing SP. Many MMO's allow you to Respec your Characters playstyle for ingame currency.

Edited by: Generals4 on 24/07/2011 23:30:11 Personally i wouldn't mind the purchase of remaps (which essentially is like a boost in SP earning speed) but i would mind the plain purchase of SP. (the amount of SP you can gain through the purchase of remaps is limited by the max SP you can earn in an optimal spec)
Oh and i would also mind if CCP allowed us to reallocate our SP , at least if there isn't any penalty to it. (like losing 25% of the SP you want to reallocate)

So we have all accepted now we are going BEYOND VANITY ITEMS... Ok good. Thank god, I am tired of hearing "CCP SAID IT IS ONLY VANITY ITEMS" in local and on forums every day.

no to buy SP yes if restat means 33% (1/3) of your SP is lost during restat. think about this, max hulk pilot would probably get decent battleship skills instantly at the loss of all his mining skills...
pure indy to decent mission runner? that isnt bad imo, 100 milSP characters losing 33mil sp is win

Except in EVE, a respec means more SP/sec for the relevant skills, essentially translating to the same thing as purchasing SP, albeit throttled.

In a way, you can already do this:
1) Convert real money -> plex -> isk. 2) Buy suited character with isk, sell old one if needed.
Takes a bit of effort, but isn't the result the individual wanted basically the same?
You end up with a character that could even have more SP than you had in the skills you always liked to try out.
Not talking about the effects resetting SP could have on the game here.

You know..on second thought, it should be free, like Rift. I can, for my free monthly fee, create 2 hotkey skill treez, (souls) and mission (quest) for other skills and create several builds with ingame mechanics and change up as the situation calls for. CCP could implement this withoit monetizing it, however im guessing they will. I would support a sp re-specialization and attribute remaps but not outright SP purchase.

Everyone had the SP boost when they started the game and chose their play style. Respec is not as game breaking as people would want you to believe. It is not Instant gratification. It is not P2P "Iwin". You can also Get a respec via the game once a year.
I dont care either way. I will not part with RL money except for the sub to play a game. Each to their own though

Miila! I don't know where you got that god awful pansey yellow text from but you need to stop using it right away!
It's bad enough there's all this angst and disunion surrounding Incarna and Eve's future without everyone being accosted multiple times in the forums by your unacceptably hideous yellow font.
Anyways... Straight up buying SP with AUR or any other real or virtual currency makes all SP irrelevant and meaningless since they no longer signify and require the effort and patience to obtain and use them.
Respecing a character's SP is a grey area due to the fact that not every SP is obtained/trained in the same amount of time/effort as every other SP.
Thus the Issue of people training up a bank of SP in 1x skills and applying them to 5x skills exists.

...Ugh...
People! If your going to waste real money on buying litterly useless and virtual items at least put the damn things on correctly.

So tell me please: are we talking about remaps of attribute points, or re-skilling existing skillpoints?
If the latter...that means I could learn all skills with 2800+ sp/h with just one remap and only two +5s for a little bit of in-game money to redistribute these SPs? Sweet!
NOT!
It would render the complete attribute system useless. That's why I'm convinced it would never come. But since common sense is a rare commodity these days...

I would by Sp's why not? But only if its reasonable. And buy a restat too.
Better yet what I would like would be the ability to train my alt at the same time I am training and playing my main.. Hello CCP are you listening?

I'd point and laugh with you if he did, but I find it unlikely anyone would be stupid enough to spend RL money on 4 PLEX to buy a monocle.

Skills are not supposed to be swap-able modules. Skills are an investment of time and effort over time and represent a sizable chunk of the record of every characters history.
They are also the long term method a person uses to differentiate their priorities and preferred game play styles from everyone else.
In short they are the fundamental vehicle that allows us to make our characters ours.

How is buying skill books and adding them to your skill queue æeffortÆ
Time is the restraint on the current skilling system. This can be circumvented with the character bizarre but without your preferred tailoring or personal attachment. Time as a perceived merit is questionable, and not just for new players
If they are going to break PLEX with anything that isnÆt a vanity item, this would be my choice for introducing as the greatest value added product
