ok, so for the first time in a long time i took to the belts. Figured, if i can't spin in station while trolling, i'll mine while trolling. It beats staring at a door. So i jump in my covetor, warp to a belt and get ready for the mind numbing hum of my strip miners and what the hell do I see? Some blue beam of light and a t1 mining laser sound effect that lasts all of 2 seconds. "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!" I exclaimed. I didn't think you could do it, but CCP, you've made mining more boring then what it was.. Good job. I mean, kudos to you on this one. It takes an astounding level of ****** to botch up the simplest and most boring mechanic in the whole of the game, but you pulled it off. I mean wow! Who's amazing idea was this? Hilmers? Zulu? Another dev that's just as dumb? I thought the backwards flying tengu was something else, let alone the whole Gold Ammo/Ship debacle. (I still don't believe you.) BUT THIS! This is the icing on the cake for me. I'm sure its old news to everyone else, but what the f*ck.
Bring back old mining effects and sound any time you want to bring back station spinning, ditch the dumb ass CQ crap, knock this Aurm sh*t off, and stop adding yet another endless barrage of fixes and rebuilds that are NOT needed. And don't give me that whole 'scared of change?' troll line. I mean, really what was the point of trying to improve something that wasn't broke?
tl;dr stop sucking so much monkey ****

Edited by: Alan Nean on 26/07/2011 17:26:03 I suspect a new tactic against macro miners here. CCP is trying to make mining boring (like it wasn't already) so the micro miners would rage quit
Anyway, I liked the old mining sounds and graphic better as well. |

They must be going for that whole 'realistic' feel. To bad its a video game. Here's a thought: Bring back everything you took away and *take out everything* you added in Incarna and we can just call it 'Incursion: Extended Directors Cut Edition' and pretend nothing ever happened. |

Mining itself needs a major revamp. There are many aspects in EVE that are far too hands off such as Mining, Manufacturing, and Research.
It'd be nice if some form of player input was allowed to affect the performance of the process or the end-product.
If mining was some sort of "mini-game" a la Bejeweled, I'd be playing it all day. I know it'll kill any semblance of realism, but good golly, when Devs start asking players what "games" they play in EVE to pass the boring Mining time, something needs to be done! |

I like the new laser effects but I don't like the loss of the looping laser sound. It fires once and then silence. I thought this was a bug and maybe it is but it could also be a design decision, in which case it should be reversed back to what it was before. It's just too quiet. Mining tons of ore should be a noisy, loud, dirty job (with Mike Rowe). Forgetting you're in a pod for a second, you'd be inside a tin can in space with all sorts of machinery, conveyors, lasers and tractor beams all working at once to extract and store the ore. It wouldn't be a quiet operation. |

I never really had a issue with the mining mechanic. Mining isn't really a solo profession unless you have up to three accounts running. Its then, and only then, that it trumps running level 4's. If you're in a active mining corp, it can be a relaxing pass time and becomes a juggling act trying to rodeo a dozen mining barges. Also, mining only gets boring when you're doing it by yourself. There's only one thing I can think of that isn't boring while doing it by myself, and it doesn't involve EVE.

Edited by: Servilia Junii on 26/07/2011 18:12:15 Victoria pretty much nailed it there. I've not been in a mining fleet with this mechanic but I can only imagine the sheer silence of what was once a very loud and very involved profession.
Want a EVE is real experience, CCP? When I was but a young pup on my main way back in The Empyrean Age, long before my anti-pirate phase and ages before my full on pirate melt down, I was but a humble miner in a Navitas. Alone, in the vast wilderness of eve, I 'dared to be bold' like the intro movie told me to be, and ventured out, tempting fate; to a +0.6 security system. From there, I sought out my fortune in the belts. The first belt I warped to I was greeted by the sight of two Maelstrom battleships, a few nameless cruisers (my memory doesn't hold what they were, but they had mining lasers) and five to six mining barges flanked by a row of industrial ships. The sheer amount of noise was a rattle and confusion all by itself, let alone the light show I beheld. I was in awe of everything I saw there. The sights, the sounds. It was all so new and amazing, and to this day my pirate heart warmed at the hum of a well orchestrated mining fleet..
If I were new today and landed in the middle of that same fleet and just saw some blue lights, I'd never give the mining profession a second thought.

The new Graphics for the minning lazer is awesome, stop trolling. There are 2 lazes at the side of the beam that melts and pulverize the asteroid while the center one drags it in. It is much more realistic! And you are saying that you prefer a spinning ship then the captains quarters? That was as fun as watching you HD's Defragmentation. And by the way, be more polite.

You must have been so doped up on veld dust before you looked at your lasers. Your strip mining lasers has the same color beam as your ice harvesters (and don't give me crap about those two little thin hairline beams you can't see unless you zoom in directly on top of em). A little variance would be appreciated, T2 laser crystals would be a nice change, or switch em back to the old version. Blue=Ice Orange=Ore, its a fundamental thing every miner knows.
But anyways, to be fair, mining ops have severally lost their appeal. The loud noise (which can be turned off for whiners, I even turned mine off when I wanted to listen to techno or watch anime) makes the ones who actually have their eve sound turned on something to listen to besides the damned shield boosters. And the lasers, HAVE GOT TO BE orange

I for one loved ship spinning then looking at a bloody door. Or if I bothered to actually look at my less-then-functional character and a ship that isn't how do you say, realistically sized.

Its not the graphic's I take issue with, its their lack of sound. Did you read my post? Idiot.
As for the new effects being 'realistic' no such technology is in existence, so how can any effect be defined as realistic? If you read up on the so called 'science' of these effects, you would know that even 26,000 years in the future this technology isn't perfected and is quite new. In fact, its only slightly more efficient then standard mining operations as large amounts of ore are lost or destroyed in the mining beam. Only in more recent times has this technology become more streamlined, although materials are still lost int he process. Idiot.
I did, in fact, prefer my ship spinning to the current <strike>barbie dream house</strike> staring at a door experience EVE has become. This subject is a matter of opinion. If you had WATCHED one of the original presintations on the CQ, you would take note on how entering your quarters was an action on the station neocom. There is no reason to not have this feature active today. The only reason why CCP is doing this is to promote the NEX store so gullible idiots will by $70 monocles. Idiot.
As for me being more polite, no. I *dislike the effects *and I hate the lack of sound. Reading, instead of just posting on the topic name, may serve you wonders in the future, idiot.
I'm not trolling, (save for this guy) I really would like the old sound effects back in play. BTW, Bump.

How about giving us back our original mining beam while you are at it. The newer ones are boring unless you are zoomed in on them. Either that or make it bigger and give us different colors for different crystals. Is it really that hard to do this?
I agree with the OP the new effects suck - period.

Has anyone else noticed that 9 times out of ten you can't even see the strip miners coming off anyone else's ship but your own. Makes it kinda annoying cause when I fleet mine I don't like to mine a rock someone else is hitting. But now, since I can't see their lasers half the time, I don't know who's mining what.

EDIT: Tunes from a speak and spell is much more entertaining than that of eve sound. And much less annoying.
somewhat similar here, I don't have it turned off entirely but the only thing I do hear is the UI, that tells me when I'm being locked. and for when I'm APing around it tells me when I'm jumping, warping, landing on gate, and when I reach my final destination.
but I have had my sound turned off pretty much since I started playing.
