Hi there,
I've done most of the epic arc, but I heard the final mission can be difficult in a frigate. Now I have taken my time working my way through it, so most of my gunnery and defense skills are at rank 3 or 4. Would that be sufficient to complete the final mission in a Rifter, or should I really upgrade to a destroyer? (This may sound stupid, but I like the idea of small and nimble ships, so I'd prefer sticking to frigates with my training if at all possible.)

maybe a faction frigate is the way to go.
keep in mind other than the skill for the dessy itself, it uses all the same mod sizes as a frig so your training won't take a dive for it.

As a note they cost quite a bit, the amount of ISK you probably do not have if you are just starting and having issues with the epic arc.

This is true, consider destroyers to be slightly slower and bigger frigates for most purposes, and you will not be far off.
All said and done, I completed the first iteration of the epic arc with a new character in a rifter, so it is completely doable (the epic arc was made easier in later patches). _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

I've completed the Epic Arc in both a Punisher (was very very easy) and a Rifter (slightly harder) so it is very doable. The missions which will give you issues:
- Burning down the hive This is notorious, as it is the first mission you will ever do where there are webbing / scramming frigates. Warp in, and zoom out. Notice the rats are grouped? Manually fly, and engage one without getting too near another. This will stop you getting overwhelmed. Take out the ones webbing and scramming you FIRST. You will notice icons denoting this appear on your overview, to the right. Keep your speed up, and avoid the objects. It shouldn't be too tough.
- Our man Dagan He's the first rat with a decent active tank. To make it worse, he will tank specific damage types depending on what faction you chose to assist. A Rifter helps here, as you can pick a damage type to exploit the hole. If you really can't break him, ask a friend to help. It's pretty much what the mission is designed to do (it mentions to get help in either this mission description, a previous one IIRC). Orbit him close and pick off his entourage first, then he won't be able to hit you and it's a matter of time. Also? I just tricked you into reading my signature. |

I killed Dagan with a T1 blaster Incursus with low gunnery skills, although I did use faction ammo and heated the guns a couple of times. Also had a pwnsome Hobgoblin II to assist me.

Anything is possible in a rifter, from experience i would say the last fight might take a while but is do-able

Based on feedback here (thanks all!) I gave it a shot in my Rifter. I had to change my fitting a bit and it took a while till I have figured out which ammo would be best (big difference!) but eventually I managed. It took a LONG time though, I needed 3 or 4 reloads on my guns (at every reload he managed to repair part of his shields again).

The guy isn't that difficult but you're likely unable to do enough damage to kill him; thats what happened to my alt when I did the epic arch last time. I had a cormorant (destroyer) and barely adequate skills to fly it, proper skills might had done the trick though.

When I've had an especially hard time with a tough NPC in a mission, it was because I was under-skilled and/or in the wrong ship. I compensated by buying a little faction ammo, which made enough of a difference for me to complete the mission.
Example: The level 4 mission Vengeance (Sanshas) in a Drake battlecruiser is pretty rough, as the last NPC has a huge amount of rep. Using faction EM heavy missiles instead of T1 missiles did the trick though.

There's your issue your not using Kinetic missiles, your ship has a kinetic missile bounus. Use it, that 5% dmg per BC LV adds up to a lot of damage.

Yes, it is possible in a Rifter.
