IÆm fairly new a little over 5mil SP and just recently got into a Hulk. IÆve been hearing about hulkaggedon and IÆm wondering how much I have to worry about this? I never leave hi-sec with my Hulk do I still have to park it while huckaggedon is going on?

If hulkageddon runs again, it will be around 8 months away. Am I correct in thinking that the guy(s) that run this EVEnt are banned?

If you look at Crime and Punishment they still seem to be organizing it through Alts and talking about doing it end of summer.

Hulkageddon never really stops. It's just that sometimes, there are prizes.

congrats on ur first Hulk.
I can easily get one, probs will soon, but right now happy with a Covetor that I use with GSCs. Anywaz, WHEN Hulkageddon happens again, unfortunately yes, the Hulk, along with most exhumers/miners will be prey :(
What I do during that evil time, is concentrate on other stuff, like courier runs, missions and some PI.
But yes, u do have to worry. U can still mine, its just that there are bad guys out there specifically looking to kill defenseless capsuleers during that time, and ur risk of being ganked goes way, way up. Its deff not a relaxing time to mine. Tho Ive never been a victim to a Hulkageddon, I have been ganked once mining ice.
Good Luck

you wont have to worry much if you can find yourself a safe pocket of High-sec surrounded by low-sec. they tend to focus on the easy prey with the "main" high-sec area that connect all the empires. another option is to find a system with less people in it than belts, and mine for a bit in a cheaper hull, like a retriever, just to see if the current people come to **** with you. then if it feels safe bring out the hulk and start mining. keep your eye on chat and always be aligned to a planet/star/station and if you see 3 or 4 people suddenly appear in local chat cut your losses and warp away.
on a side note, i never really understood why EvE seems to hate miners so damn much. they don't interfere in profits from missions, they don't engage in pvp. i guess i would find it fun the first time just for tears, but after that it would just seem like a giant waste of money ôWhat we imagine is order is merely the prevailing form of chaos.ö

nobody hates the miners, the issue is ship turnover. Missions and PVP players occassionally lose ships due to the combat nature of what they are doing thus having to buy new ships thus giving the miners the reason to mine and be productive. However, many missioners and pvp'ers are also miners and understand that to keep our economy alive it takes destruction of resources to give rise to the manufacturing element of the game. Mining ships get bottlenecked when they never blow up. In a sense, the attempt is to keep retrievers and hulks from being on the field for 10 years pulling in 10,000 tmies thier value from purchase. You have to buy a real car every so often in life, it's no different here.

lol, no sir. But i can say that about 95% of the time when i do gank a miner if they are relaxed about things, i've paid for their ship. My mission isn't to greif, but to create turnover. But emo rages and those that threaten me with "big brother." are laughed at.

Actually you CAN tank a Hulk up to 20k EHP which will scare off 98% of the gankers, as there might be a easier pray next belt. In such a tanked Hulk you are immune to dessy ganking, as long as they don¦t show up in superior numbers (more than 5). You might be able to tank a single gank typhoon, depending if he is able to set off a second round of his howitzers, which depends in which sec status you are mining (won¦t be able to shoot a second round in 1.0, could work in 0.5). When the disco lights are on (smartbombing) you are toast anyway.
Generally spoken, for a week or two while hulkageddon happens, you can do different things when paranoia strikes, or you tank up your hulk, watch local carefully, and use your directional scanner to see probes. Always, always stay aligned to station or else, this might not save your a** as your hulk needs an awful lot of time to reach warp speed, but it might help.
Personally i would¦nt care that much about the next hulkageddon, as far as i know helicity boson is still banned, and the next event might not have the same number of ppl joining. Read C & P to get an imagine of how big the event will be.
Finally keep in might that EVERYTHING can be ganked, just depends on afford.

Don't mine in belts. Mine in those missions that have an accel gate and a 30+km slowboat to the belt. With Dscan going no one can warp on top of you when they must first scan you down, then land on the accel gate, use the gate, and wind up tens of kms away from you.

To reiterate some of what was said above:
1) Yes. Mine mission space - most of them are to lazy to probe you down.
2) For those not to lazy to Probe you down, use DScan to look for Combat Scanner Probes. If they don't probe they can't find you in mission space.
3) If they do find you - they will warp in at the beacon giving you some distance/time to react if they are farther away.
4) Check Crime & Punishment now and again to get a heads up on when another Hulkageddon is coming and maybe run missions for a while. Mission running improves your standings which decreases your fees for using an NPC Corporations Stations.

A Hulk costs about 200 million ISK these days.
I personally have a real problem with a ship that expensive using a fit that can be popped by a suicide Thrasher, and I have billions in my wallet. At least a suicide Tempest pilot put some effort into it.
So I watch local, and dscan, and I bug-out if things look suspicious.
If you are mining solo, you are asking for trouble. If you have an Orca or hauler in the fleet, then you can fit much more defensively. Solo you are better-off using a cheap Covetor.
This fit is no guarantee of survival, especially against multiple suicide ships, but it can often survive long enough, especially if you remember to overheat the hardners. You can also choose to change the Hulk's drones to EC-600 for a another chance at life, and let the Orca deal with the NPC rats. Remember you can change your drones with an Orca's fitting service (also handy for fitting a tractor beam and salvager to clean-up the wrecks, assuming there isn't a Noctis in the Orca's ship bay), but they have to be out when the attack starts to be effective.
I use a CN EM amplifier, because EM is the damage you can expect, and every little bit helps. I also have EM + Thermal Compensation skill level 5 on my Hulk pilots. Thermal resist on the Hulk is fine as-is.
