Ok so this might be a slightly ignorant post.. Im a newer player and have been carebearing sense I have started playing but I plan on finding a lowsec Corp in the near future.
Anyhow, looking at the forum and hearing people talk about Cap ships and cap skills they are always talking about carriers, it seems it is rare to hear about dread pilots. Are they that few and far between, or is it simply the fact by that time you know what your doing? Lol

In short, carriers are more common as they are more versatile than dreads. You can use carriers for logistics, ratting and fleet support where as these days, dreads only seem to be used for bashing structures and little else. I guess they were at one time used for fighting against other caps but supercaps have taken over this role. Dreads need a bit of love at the moment.

I think the reason is that dreads are much more specialized. You'll never hear about someone ratting in a dread since it's just not reasonable because of the size of the turrets and such, whereas carriers use fighters and drones and can actually kill rats while tanking a lot.
I think the big thing is that carriers can be used for solo PvE work (even if it's not the brightest thing to do most of the time), dreads are made for group work, either POS-bashing or cap ship fights. If you're flying a dread, you're flying with a bunch of other people with dreads, so you typically have them to ask for fitting advice.
With carriers, pretty much everyone in the game wants one at some point or another, so everyone thinks about them. Dreads aren't really as glamorous, so there's less interest in them unless you're with a group that needs them (and can tell you how to fit them).
Atleast, that's my perception/experience of the situation.

Seems like a straight foreword situation. I knew they where kind of specialized but I was thinking they would also be good for anti-cap warfare too wasn't sure if they would be good anti BS too.
Either way just a passing curiosity.. Not planning on flying one any time soon lol
