For it to have still not been done after years of pleas for such a simple seeming augmentation/fix that would increase the playablility and thus fun of the game significantly is interesting. My only hope is that it's far more simple then it sounds when pulling it off in the magic of Eve's computer do das because if it's not then here's an example ccp:
Make tiny blurry text... Bigger! Thus easier to see and less eyeballs bursting onto helpless screens due to the strain of it all

They aren't going to answer you because the are all building Dust and WoD. They already said 90 percent of devs are doing other things.

The new font was 'nearly ready' at the last fanfest. I'd guess we'll see it in the winter expansion, or in some sort of 'stop whining, bittervets' mini expansion with engine trails or something.

I think it is more along the lines of them trying to figure out how much Aurum they are going to charge for it.

I've been playing almost 6 years now. And I'm STILL waiting on proper font scaling. My current monitors are 24" @ 1920x1200 and a 22" @ 1680*1050.
my NEXT monitor, that I'm saving for is a 30" @ 2560x1600.

I have only played EQ / EQ II / LoTRO / Eve as MMOGs, and Eve has the worst UI of them all.
EQ came out in 1998, then EQ II in 2004, and both have customizable UIs, from windows, to fonts, font sizes, themes, etc.
Shame to Eve.

I think its more along the lines of "CCP fixed it once, it wasn't good enough for everyone, so the people that didn't get what they want said CCP did nothing".
Kind of ****ty attitude IMHO.
If you want to say "CCP did nothing since the last time they enlarged the font", go right ahead. that would be much more accurate than accusing them of "doing nothing" or 'plotting to charge arum for the service".

Edited by: Alexis Ne on 03/08/2011 18:27:47 30" @ 2560x1600. Crappy small font, blah-blah. Long overdue, blah-blah.
I remember posting about this five or six years ago. This is a dead horse pretty much. CCP doesn't give a flying **** about this, ****ing ****suckers.
Ah, here you go. Somewhere circa 2005 you could actually use your own font in the client. Things only went downhill from there.

While I completely agree that the font is a big issue (at least for me). Dev responses aren't something owed to you, that you should demand.

The first step of software development after concept creation (here, here, here, here, here and more relevantly, here) is requirements engineering, and for some of the devs, I'm sure thats their whole job. Since those devs can't talk face to face with most of the playerbase, they should be on the forums a lot more then they are. These forums are stop number one on your two way customer communications line. The debacle of the previous expansion can be wholely attributed to inadiquate requirements gathering.
If you ever wanted to know the answer to "who the **** thought it was a good idea to make the turret icons like they are now?", it was the requirements engineering team.
As the customer, we are the majority source of functional and non-functional requirements for eve online. In summery, it is damn well their job to be posting on the forums, and they should be doing it a lot more then they are.

I understand the pressing need to feel somewhat relevant (which seems to be very widespread around here), but the forums (in any game) are no representation of "the customer". "the customer" plays EVE Online, not Forums Online.
This said, the font need to be customizable. They already said that they're working on it, if i'm not wrong. Demanding a dev response on any topic, in any MMORPG forum is simply ridiculous. They're not at your call. -- Abriael

We need not only a bigger font, but a better one too. One that distinguishes more clearly between letter O and zero, capital i and lower case L and so on and so forth.

there's things that need to be fixed in eve but point size aint one of em.
I'm running in 2880x900 and the ui text is the same size as the forum text. Id be more interested in CCP fixing it so text isn't hidden by overlaid graphics and other text like on the probe control map or the nav map.

Don't get you hopes up. CCP has been promising to add more font sizes for years. About two years ago they allegedly hired a "font guy" to work on completely new fonts. Near as can tell that project was abandoned because making UI fonts bigger broke the UI windows and otherwise looked bad. Supposedly the new Carbon UI will allow CCPto make variable-sized fonts, but they're most likely not going to introduce new fonts until they completely redo the entire interface. That'll prolly happen sometime around 2013, since a new UI would no doubt require new art assets and all the art teams are backlogged until the end of this year and possibly until the end of 2012, depending on who you ask and how much you read into the CSM minutes.
Basically, folk have been asking for the option to make fonts bigger for years, and CCP has generally remained silent on the issue, even though being able to read the UI text [or distinguish between 0 and O] would prolly do more to attract and retain players than pretty clothes.
