So many ppl always concern theirselves with ish/h ratios and whatnot when talking about missioning ships. I'd rather hear from experienced players what they feel has been the most FUN ship to fly in lvl4s and why?
Still talking about ships that can effectively do lvl4s. I'm myself in domi atm, which is good starter ship. Allows alot of mistakes, easy, afkboat ect ect. But it's boring as hell :D
Now i'm looking into skilling up for something sexier. Mainly the pirate faction ships or navy issues. Personally looking into CNR, Nightmare and Mach. 3 ships which all represent very different skill paths. I dislike Mach purely cause everyone seems to fly it atm, same reason i disliked drakes always. I like the looks of nightmare alot, and the few vids I've seen, it seems its fun to fly.
So what would you recommend, why you liked it, and any pros/cons ppl could mention, would be helpfull.
Again, keep in mind the fun factor of playing, not the "omg 80mil isk/hour!".

You seem to already made your decision, why ask on the forums then? I like Machariel because oneshotting elite frigates every 3 seconds and flying a battleship that handles like a cruiser is fun to me. Oh, and did you mention you're looking for something sexier? The only thing sexier than a Machariel is 2 Machariels. NM is much less fun to fly, it's a brick, CNR is utterly boring. So set aside your hipster prejudice c.rap "I hate it just because everyone likes it" and skill for one. You'll thank me later.

Each ship has its annoyances. Each has its bonuses. Depends on what you are looking for.
IMO: If you are shooting for CNR, go golem.
Tengu is fun for 1-2 missions where there is travel time, but you can skip those. The thing is incredibly slow downing BS and non-kinetic weak ships.
NM/Mach seem to be about even in my book.

Try the various frigates (obviously t2, such as assault frigs and stealth bombers). They are FUN to fly, and in many missions are surprisingly more effective then even battleships!

JapiTheMan,
Since you already have a lot of the drone skills, try a Gila. I run L4s in a Gila, and it's great fun.
Eventually you can even upgrade into a Rattlesnake, which seems like it'd be a lot of fun, too, but I have no real experience with the Rattler, only the Gila.

Agreeing with Mr. Agreeable. Mach is king of most highsec space.
Now if you ever decide to leave highsec, get a tengu.

Mach/Vargur or Tengu. Everything else tends to be slow, clumsy, or noticeably lacks flexibility in damage types.

Meh, I haven't flown my Golem (or CNR) in ages. Juggling TPs and the limited range on torps gets a little tedious. I pretty much use the Tengu exclusively for missioning. Even my Vargur is getting dusty.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Very interesting stuff.
And I've no ways made up my mind as someone claimed. That's why I made this. I had no idea Mach is so fast and just now saw it in some videos. That's very interesting cause I've disliked the slowness of battleships ALOT and the idea of big ship flying over 500ms effectively sounds very good!
Also i saw some golem videos from this guy http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/21813-Golem-that-actually-has-TP-039-s.html and it seems fun. Mainly cause missiles are totally new concept to me, but dunno how nice its long term. NM is still appealing cause of the lasers being new to me and its just looks sexeh :D Also seems that both NM and golem can fit tractors/salvagers, where as mach uses it all on cannons?
Eve is a tricky game cause for great rewards you really need to specialize into something. Especially in the beginning. I'm sure overtime I could train to fly them all effectively, but for now i gotta decide something.
No idea yet, so keep the ideas coming.
oh btw, why is tengu so popular? I see it on chats ingame absolutely constant too. What makes it so imba vessel?

Mwd mach is fun in some missions. Anything that needs target painters, drones or counting volleys to do missions efficiently is just annoying.

IMHO, the Tengu's ROF and handling makes it a fun ship to fly in most lvl4. The drawback is a little weak DPS against battleships, it's time consuming if they are too many.

And if you dont want to be bored out of your skull with missiles. Get a Loki . Its a pile of trash which goes 800m/s and has an assault rifle duck taped to the front of it, makes for a fun mission runner(in comparison to others, missions arnt really fun period).

Angels, Serps, and Mercenaries are pretty weak to kinetic. EM is the only real damage type gap for the Tengu, but if you're blitzing, then you'll be skipping most missions with EM weak rats. (The Tengu does well blitzing The Rogue Slave Traders pair of missions.) If you fly outside of Amarr territory, the Tengu will do well in almost all situations.
By comparison, Hybrids and Lasers are very limited in their damage profile due to split damage types and having only one set of damage (em/therm, or kin/therm.) Projectiles, on the other hand, have ammo that works well against explosive, thermal and EM weak targets, plus the advantage that thermal works well against the kinetic weak rats (Guristas, Serps, EoM.)

Can fit a monster tank (because of its speed and signature), the only T3 with a long range, fast, agile, used to be imba unscannable lowsec runner until not long ago, can tank and solo L5 missions, great at exploration and wormhole ops, etc etc. One ship to rule them all pretty much. Very good at highsec L4 missions too, just marginally worse than Mach, Vargur, CNR and Golem, and maybe NM.

I use both with CS 5, but even I have to admit that a Tengu will (slightly) outperform a NH and a Machariel does absolutely everything down the line better than a Sleipnir save tanking EM rats.

for me, Machariel is the king. Not really into the 'fun' aspect of missioning, I just want to get them done and collect my LP so I can go pvp with new shiny toys or ammo.
I keep a Pith B-type XL booster and an Ammatar Navy hvy cap booster on it + mwd (it is fully PVP fit just in case some idiot(s) think they might like to go for gank). I rarely burn cap booster 800's (only use Navy 800's for actual pvp) because it just kills stuff so fast, and I've never been even close to losing it once we were allowed to use MWD's in all missions. Even missions like WC are a breeze, jump into the room and mwd out to range, kill the tiny rats with light drones and if it aggro's the entire room, so what, that's what the shield booster + cap booster is for (and a nice set of LG Crystals helps if I want to use that clone).
Tengu is pretty awesome, as is an active sleipnir, but really, since I got the Mach...what's the point?

Dual prop Ishtar with blasters. Not quite as fast at clearing a mission as some boats, but strafing battleships is fun.

For fun, try any Assault Ship. My favourites are the Iskhur and Hawk. You may find something else to your liking.
As for effective, that really comes down to ships that can project a lot of effective DPS. A T2-fit CNR would certainly be effective and fun at the same time: upgrade to CN Ballistic Controls in order to finish missions faster, but sticking with a T2 tank means you have to actually pay attention and be careful what you're shooting at.

I recently fallen in love with the Legion , polse laser fit for lvl 4 missions Not only a damn sexy looking ship but it gives you a good run aswell, it has the same weakness to webber frigs as the tengu , and it is relative short range , but because of its speed it is able to tank most of the missions , aslong you use your speed and get those webber frigs first, not the fastest mission runner but alot of fun ---------------------------------------------- God knows everything but a true amarrian knows everything even better |

Good advice for a challenge.
I know a played who used a T2/Faction fitted Jaguar for level 4 missions, and usually completed them within the bonus time.
Later he set up a T2/Faction fitted Dramiel so he could run the missions faster.

Have used lots of different ship to PVE in, but my fave is the vagabond, followed by an ishtar. I've just started using a Navy Vexor with 2 small reps and blasters, lots of fun but a bit hairy at times...
Going back to being nomadic again, so stuck a couple of cruiser sized hulls in an orca, plus a couple of AFs and am wandering between regions, scanning and doing missions, popping down to lo/null to explore. HAC/faction cruiser copes with all level 4s, and I can run sites in the AFs... As someone before me said, ISK/hour is irrelevant once you get past billion number fifty... --

I've always had fun clearing AE with a blaster hyperion. Few other ships can take down a battleship in 2 or 3 volleys.
