I open my mailbox as I receive a new message.
To my Disgust And Horror, it is Marketing Spam!
Behold!
Quote: The Noble Exchange Welcomes You From: Darmad Cirshan To: Valerie Valate
Fly in style!
In honor of the ongoing grand opening of the Noble Exchange, Noble Appliances is providing a special gift of 1000 Aurum to all registered capsule pilots. Please visit your local Noble Exchange retailer (found in your station services sidebar) to peruse our selection of top-of-the-line attire.
Aurum (AUR) is the currency used by the privileged and powerful to conduct transactions outside the framework of the standard DED ISK infrastructure. It is the sole currency accepted by the Noble Exchange for their goods and services. To acquire Aurum, you can exchange a Pilot License Extension (PLEX), bought online or on the in-game market, at the rate of 3500 AUR for 1 PLEX. All the related commands can be found in your Noble Exchange retail interface.
The Noble Exchange is the high-powered professionalĘs premium clothing and apparel outlet. We carry the latest styles for the upper echelons of spacefaring society, as well as more esoteric designs of exceptional rarity and refinement. Quality is our hallmark, class is our brand. Command admiration as well as respect ū pay us a visit today.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of the GalNet capsuleer museum, a repository of the episodes and encounters that make life among the stars into the unique experience it is. Have a look, stay a while, and add your own experiences.
On behalf of the Noble Exchange,
Darmad Cirshan Chief Operating Officer

I find it a little more disturbing (and markedly sexist) that I have yet to be able to find any of my old mini-skirts and have to resort to either pants or nothing, while walking between my quarters and pod.
Which, incidentally, normally results, in my haste to undock, in nothing.

Ladiesą Why the fuss? ItĘs from Noble Appliances, a well known and trustworthy company after all. Darmad send me a catalogue! LetĘs go shopping, girls! Shoes, skirts, diamonds and fancy-schmancy body lotions! Maybe someone can find me a sweet sailor suite like those we used to have in high school on Khanid?

I dont like being spammed by a store I don't shop at, dont have an intention to shop at and dont have any interest in knowing or hearing about. I also don't like to be spammed by the COO of a firm ive nothing to do with, no interest in doing business with, and no need to know about.
In other words, I found the spam promotion insulting. --

This has to be one of the most petulant displays of ingratitude I have ever had the misfortune of laying my eyes on. The man gives you a gift that is tantamount to free product with no favor asked nor strings attached, and you people whine that you have to be bothered to look at it.
May you find mercy in what must surely be a tortured existence if this is the tragedy you focus on.

It is not a spam. It is scam.
Look at these prices. A skirt costs more than a fully fitted battleship? You know the size of the battleship, right? You know its firepower and amount of technological know-hows, electronics, software, colossal value of metals and precious materials.
Put on the other hand these clothes, and tell me, WHAT can cost that much? We know, that to make a cloth you need 1. blueprint (they call it "design" i think) 2. materials 3. amount of work to put all this together And nothing of it can cost like a battleship.
However, there is one thing that can make a cloth cost that much: uniqueness. You buy it for ridiculous amount of money and you know, that no one will ever have it again. But... but Darmad Cirshan sells them like dirt!
And tell me please, what's the difference between his wares and clothes than can be bought for like 50 isk planetside? Or like for several thousands of isks for elite expensive clothes?
This is just a scam, like in Jita local, and I really doubt CONCORD will ever do something against Darmad Cirshan, as they just prefer to close eyes on this stuff. --- We live and die for the State |

How is it a scam when the man has deposited AUR into our accounts? Buy a pair of boots and sell it on the market. Profit and no additional funds required. There you go, now stop complaining about the prices of things you obviously don't need to buy.
The above is the author's personal opinion and may not represent the opinion of his CEO. |

The simplest solution is to delete the message and/or ignore the sender. The messages didn't cause any harm, so I don't understand the outrage.

That isn't scamming, though. You could redeem an item for the Aurum and then sell it for 1 isk, if you feel that that is how much it is worth. And if you think it's worthless you can give it away to someone who values it.

the CONCORD Spam Prevention Act only stipulates that communications to a capsuleer will default to requiring a 2,950 ISK charge unless the pilot in question specifies otherwise.
I assume that this charge has been paid, or the message would never have made it into my inbox. therefore, there has been no violation of the CSPA.
Besides, if the Noble Exchange really have contacted every capsuleer in the sky with this message, then they have spent somewhere in the order of 1.1Bn ISK in order to be able to do so. Any entity willing to spend that sort of money on targeted marketing is entitled to do so, if you ask me. -

It's embarrassing for me to admit, but I went ahead and purchased a grossly overpriced jacket from Noble Exchange on a whim. It's no lie that it's virtually indestructible as far as clothing goes and I haven't managed to stain it yet.
Truthfully, I couldn't recommend anyone but the most undeservingly rich persons to spend so much on something short of it curing every ailment and guaranteeing eternal youth and life.

Some people are wondering why others are outraged at the message spam when they were given free Noble Exchange currency.
If you give someone a nice couch and they say thank-you, it doesnt mean you can then go over to their quarters any time you like and sit on the couch. Inviting yourself over to sit on the couch when you are not welcome, even after giving the couch to a person, is considered rude in polite company.
So yes, we can appreciate the gift of 1,000 Aurum while at the same time taking offense at the person giving the gift when that person forces unwanted interaction upon us.
I may be a rust scraping Minmatar, but even I have enough sense and know better than to force myself upon someone else.

You made a good pick; apparently it's mass produced, but I've still only seen the jacket on you and myself. I wonder how long it will take for that to change.
