NinjaEdit: I play on everything LOW and most stuff OFF.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit (Also had windows xp but no performance increase) CPU: DualCore Intel Pentium D, 3400 MHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO RAM: 2048 MB Noname MoBo: Noname
Before Incarna I had no real issues with playing Eve. Here and there I had some client lag but it was way over 9 fps constanlty. Recently I am at 4-18 fps. The big problem are the big-lag times when I am at 3-7 fps and when I sometimes have 1-3 seconds of a static image on my screen. Thats a real problem especial at PVP.
so...
1) Is it a hardware issue (broken hardware)? 2) Can I upgrade the system ? 3) Could you recommend a new rig? ( I prefer amd/readon because of better price )
Thanks for your help! ---

Need to know mobo in order to advise upgrade pass.
Probably better off buying new rig. What is your budget?

Nah, it's just fairly old hardware. It is above minimum specs for EVE, but not by much.

You could, but frankly, the only things you're likely to want to keep is the case and maybe the PSU, but probably not even that. You'd be better off building a new machine from scratch.

The main purpose of this computer is playing EVE and from time to time some FPS Games like BC2 for example. I am happy with low graphic settings. The maximum I want to invest is 700 - 1000Ç. I want to build the computer myself (not much expirience but i can fly spaceships. so a computer shouldnt be a big issue :) ). ---

Quote: GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO
This is a good GPU and supports shader model 3 so it can play eve on med/low settings. According to the passmark website it rates
GeForce 7900 GT/GTOscore:613Rateing:193
in short turn on the door and you will be fine. The older cards really dont like simulateing hair and cloths. One of the solutions that may be open to you to squeeze a little more life out of your rig is do downgrade to WinXp as well. That will free up some of the system resources to put to the game. This is especially true if you have all the graphical widgets turned on. I would also suggest a clean install of windows and updated drivers if thats your thing.
And one last note, new AMD FX stuff comeing in September YAY

Edited by: Nite Piper on 31/07/2011 21:35:27 I think it looks strange. My no 3 PC is a s939 Athlon64 X2 with GF7800GT video card. I've never had that low fps in EVE, with it. That includes Incarta. The only problem was the char editor. That truly lagged. Luckily I have a couple of higher spe'ced PCs so I created and edited my chars on them.
It could be that Pentium D throttling. They were renowned to do that if they didn't get enough cooling. Maybe dust have built up over the years in your CPU cooler? Or your CPU-fan is erratic?
Anyway, I think you should do a new build. Since you prefer AMD, a good budget build could be based on a MB with AMD 870&SB850 chipset (these come rather cheaply but don't allow crossfire with 2 X PCIe-X16, but frankly Xfire is overdoing it anyway), Phenom II X4 and a HD6850 or HD6870 videocard. Now, there are amd870 mainboards that can handle the juice for Ph II X6, but make sure of that before you go that road. The SB850 have quite good SATA, so you may want to consider a SSD for the OS? They add a lot of expense though. The X6 can otherwise be picked up rather cheaply these days. I suppose it's due to the SandyBridges and the upcoming Bulldozer. But you don't need X6, X4 should be fine.

First off thanks for all the fast and good replies.
Since yesterday I am looking for hardware reviews here and there. I came to the conclusion (thanks to Akita T's link to a previous thread) that cable-management and airflow is a very important factor. I came across differnt cases and this one I like most.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139003
The price is a bit high but as I read in some posts the case can be used for the next rig upgrade too. If anyone got a good case with nice cable-management and a good airflow I would appreciate a advise.
In lots of ratings and reviews I saw that the AMD processors have the best power/ISK ( yes ISK :) ) ratio. The first CPU that came in my mind was the 1100T Hexacore from AMD. To be honest I am a bit unsure about gaming peformance when you compare a hexacore with 6 x 3,3 GHZ and a quadcore with 4 x 3,7 GHZ. Depending on budget I can scale down the CPU price. But its a general question: Hexacore or Quadcore for games. Will there be a difference between running 4 or 6 clients? (Taking in mind 4 Clients 4 CPU , 6 Clients 6 CPU). I want to run a minimum of 2 EVE-Clients.
Hexacore http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103913&cm_sp=Pers_StoreAlsoViewMore-_-19-103-913_7_sCB-_-1_34_19-115-072__ Quadcore http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103934&cm_sp=Pers_StoreAlsoViewMore-_-19-103-934_8_sCB-_-1_34_19-115-072__
And finaly my biggest issue. The GPU. I have no ****ing clue. Today I found out there are the official GPU Cards and Third Party Cards with a modified cooler etc. As said above I want to run atleast 2 Clients (maybe 3) and I think if the single card lost its power over the years I could buy another one and put them into CF or SLI. Being able to play BC2 or the new BF3 would be kickass too.
Thanks for your help! Already excited for the answers.

Machine building thread I created yesterday
I have a puny i5-760 (quad core @ 2.8) and a 1 GB GTX 460. Single-client, interval immediate, everything to the max (excluding AA), not quite fullHD resolution (only 1600x1024), I get two cores out of 4 at about half usage and two cores nearly idle (yes, that's an overall CPU usage of well under a third of full capacity), while getting 230 FPS or so while in space. This means the CPU could easily handle three times the GPU firepower, and that even that video card should be able to run 3 or maybe 4 clients "in space" at ~60 FPS.
