So, I need to train Shield Compensation.
I've read here in a thread that the resist compensation skills are not needed? I'm going to be flying Drakes and other types of missile/shield related Caldari ships, so I would like a bit of clarification on that. I know the technical mumbo jumbo already, I just wanted to see if they'd be a waste of skill training time or not.
This is in relation to both PvE and PvP. [CENTER][URL=http://www.wizards.com/magic/playmagic/whatcolorareyou.asp][B]Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Qui |

No harm in getting them to 4, it wont really take that long.

Edited by: Kesshisan on 01/08/2011 05:48:11 Some L4s (Blood Raiders) have neuting. In these situations compensation comes in handy so you can use passive resistance amplifiers. Even if you are using active hardners, if you do run out of cap, the skill will help your resistance when the active hardners are off just a little bit.
Furthermore, if you eventually take a big step up to faction and officer gear, you will find that by upgrading to a slightly higher cost than your current active hardners, there exists passive resistance amplifiers at L4 that are just as good. Furthermore L5 will make them even better than the active hardners.
Example:
Domination Ballistic Deflection Field ~5mil each Active hardner 50% Kinetic Damage Resistance
Pithum C-Type kinetic Deflection Amplifier ~10mil each Passive resistance amplifier 41.3% Kinetic Damage Resistance With L4 Kinetic Compensation 49.56% With L5 Kinetic Compensation 51.625%
This is not something you need right away, but something you should think about eventually. Getting them to L4 each isn't that long of a train, especially if you're mapped into Int/xxx.

If you have fairly low SP, train it to 3 for now, it's not gonna make a massive difference and it will shave off like a week. --- Drykor - AHARM |

The compensations skills both effect the passive modules directly with a 5% boost per level. But active hardeners are a lot more common. In PVP they are de facto. The shield compensation skills don't effect active hardeners while they activated and running. They give a 15% total boost to an active hardeners resist while inactive, so if you get capped out it helps a little but training the shield compensation skills above IV is not really worth it unless your plan to do level 5 missions in a nighthawk or something.

Keep in mind that the "Shield Compensation" Skill is COMPLETELY different than "EM/Explosive/Kinetic/Thermal Shield Compensation". Make sure you are training the one you want to.

Right. Ok, well I've got the 'Shield Compensation' skill being worked on, it's got a few levels in it already, I was more concerned with the shield resist compensation skills, which from what you guys stated Level 4 is acceptable. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I hope this post will help others that need the same clarification as well.
You guys were very helpful with that info, thanks again. [CENTER][URL=http://www.wizards.com/magic/playmagic/whatcolorareyou.asp][B]Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Qui |
