I'm curious from an average grunts perspective what do you expect out of a corp that will keep you logging in and X'ing up for gangs and so forth?
This is mainly regarding PVP, but I guess activity is activity regardless of what you are doing. Therefore what is it that keeps you active with-in your corp or alliance vs just logging on and going AFK or doing your own thing.
One thing I've noticed is that there seems to be a lot of inactivity from large portion of member bases of most corps/alliances. Real Life factors aside, it seems a lot of people often log in just to do nothing.
So what gets you out of AFK/zombie mode to actually do something with your corp-mates?

I don't like playing with corps that are constantly hounding you to X up for fleet. When do they expect you make the isk needed to pay for those nice, shiney ships?

It's a great question tbh.
I'm afraid General Apathy seems to be the killer atm and unless measures are taken to improve game content, then I fear there will be further inactivty.

Numbers. Buddies within my corp, buddies outside of the corp, and even buddies who act as enemies in-game.
It's an MMO, so in my book, player interaction is the number one thing that makes the game worthwhile. I'd play a single-player game connected to an out of game chat if that wasn't the case.
But I shake hands and say hello. Previous corpies, previous war targets, previous griefers, previous victims, and of course the people I'm with now. I hit them up, see if they are doing anything, and log in the appropriate character from there (don't pirate on your nulsec alt, just sayin').

One of the age old myths in eve is that everyone logged in for a corp is an individual person and at keyboard every minute they are logged in. I was always amused in alliances i have been in where people see that there are 700 people logged into eve in the alliance and they are ****ed that they only have 300 in fleet. When you think about it....300 is probably an exceptional number of actives for that many characters being online.
1. Folks logged in does not equal folks at keyboard or even in their house or within 20 miles of their keyboard. Many people in eve never log out at all. Many leave their chars logged in all of the time.
2. People all have alts in this game. Many have more than 10 alts in this game. Many leave all or alot of their chars logged in. Even the ones who are quite willing to participate in pvp ops are not going to use all 10 chrs at one time. They might use 2. Perhaps.
This always lead to big arguments about people should log out or there should be a rule or whatever. Individual corps may choose to do that kind of thing. Ultimately if they let alts in then they will fail to enforce it. There are some corps/alliances who are very draconian about alts being in some kind of alt corp/alliance and those guys probably do field a higher percentage of ppl who are online at one time. Is that better? I dont think so. I think it is better to field more people total than it is to worry about percentages. Of course.... more fail people isnt better but you get the point. The percentage of who is online and in fleet isnt as important as getting maximum numbers for big cta type event ops.

People need a community goal that's attainable in the time frame they have each night.
Roaming gang. Belt to mine. Logistics to move. Market orders to update.
Whatever.
If your people log on, and nothing is happening till a TCU comes out, or a POS comes out of reinforced mode, or you're waiting for a hostile fleet to come to you.. Folks will go afk.
It's the hardest part about running a corp/alliance.
If you have too much going on, folks have no down time, and burn out. You see this a lot with the very active PVP alliance's/corps. They're on the go every day for months on end. If nothing is going on, they play other games, read books, watch movies.. quit and join another corp/alliance.
Sometimes is the recruiters own fault. In trying to sell a corp to new recruits, they make it sound better/more active then it really is. "Yeah, we're a NA TZ corp who's active from 00:00 EVE time to to 08:00" but in reality most of your corp mates are online from 2200-0200 then the guy you've recruited who's online from 0000 to 0800 will find that he's alone half the time.
A clear direction of what your corps goals are is very important. Put up a POS. Claim a system. Build a titan. Build everyone a MOM. Claim a constellation. Claim a tech moon. Claim a region..
What ever the goal is, it must be attainable, and something that every member can help towards.

i totally agree on the above statement. Is not an easy job.PPl need to be motivated and feel involve in the community. This kind of environment is for the corp's leader and his commanders to create it. All you need is love to your goal and members . However beware of spy and griefer. Looking for future |

Variety in Op's Roams and industrial activities helps alot as well. It's hard to get people to participate in the 12 TCU/SBU/Station Rep/take down operation in a row because they were bored of it after the first.
Too often Alliances announce the same op over and over again without anything else in between to break up the monotony and then act all kind of shocked and awe'd when people are less and less willing to participate in them.
Shake things up. organize some other different activities even if they are of no strategic value in order to inject some energy into the member base.
